The family's truck "veered off the roadway to the right and struck a tree" on Thursday, according to the Louisiana State Police.
As Preston's parents, Katelynn and Jaelan Ordone, are still recovering in separate hospitals after the devastating accident, the family has been left even more heartbroken by how police described the crash.
Cops said Preston, who was sitting in the back of the car, was "improperly restrained in a child safety seat" at the time of the crash in Covington, Louisiana, about 45 miles north of New Orleans.
Katelynn's dad, Glen Norris, told Nola.com that contrary to what cops said, Preston had been properly restrained in his car seat before the crash.
Norris said he spoke with a witness at the scene who removed Preston from the wrecked truck.
The witness reportedly said Preston was properly restrained in the car seat.
Norris said he was angry at the state police's claims, which they shared in a post on Facebook after the crash.
He said the cops' reports were "hurtful and painful."
Trooper Marc Gremillion insisted the press release was accurate, according to Nola.com.
In a pinned comment on Facebook, LSP said, "Our goal is never to add to the pain, but rather to fulfill our responsibility in this age of information."
The reason for the crash is still being investigated.
LSP hasn't returned The U.S. Sun's request for comment.
Norris said Katelynn and Jaelan were heading home from a doctor's appointment with Preston when they veered off the road.
The couple's daughter, Paisley, was at school at the time of the accident.
Louisiana State Police's press release
The Louisiana State Police announced the tragedy that took the life of TikTok star Preston Ordone in a news release on April 24.
"Shortly before 11:50 a.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 12, west of the LA Hwy 59 exit in St. Tammany Parish. The crash tragically claimed the life of 2-year-old Preston Ordone of Slidell," LSP said.
"The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2011 Ford F-150 was traveling eastbound on I-12 when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle veered off the roadway to the right and struck a tree.
"The driver and front passenger, who were both properly restrained, sustained serious injuries and were transported to a local hospital.
"Preston, who was seated in the rear, but improperly restrained in a child safety seat, also sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. As part of the ongoing investigation, a routine toxicology sample was collected from the driver for analysis.
"Louisiana State Police stress that proper restraint use significantly reduces the risk of serious injury or death in a crash. Louisiana law requires all occupants, regardless of seating position, to be properly restrained at all times. The proper use of seat belts and child safety seats can be the difference between life and death.
"Parents and caregivers who are unsure about their child's car seat installation are encouraged to visit any Louisiana State Police Troop or contact the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission to locate the nearest fitting station. Ensuring correct installation and usage of car seats and booster seats is critical to preventing injuries and saving lives.
"Louisiana State Police urge all motorists to drive responsibly, obey traffic laws, and avoid driving while impaired, fatigued, or distracted. Always ensure every occupant in the vehicle is properly restrained. To report hazardous driving, dial LSP (577)."

Katelynn and Jaelan were both wearing seatbelts when the truck crashed.
A video was posted on Katelynn's social media accounts on Sunday, where the mom's cousin, Brielle Matranga, shared the news of the tragedy.
"They tried everything they could for Preston, but he had to go be with Jesus," Brielle said.
She continued, "Katelynn has multiple broken bones. She had a very bad concussion. She walked for the first time today.
"Jaelan had to have emergency surgery on one of his legs. He has rods, pins in them. They're both at different hospitals.'
In an update shared to Facebook by Katelynn's mom, she shared that Katelynn will have to wear a back brace for months, while Jaelan has to undergo another surgery for his shattered leg. The couple are expected to be discharged from the hospital this week.
'OKAY BABY'
The Ordones are known for sharing heartwarming videos of their family of four on TikTok, where they have over 400,000 followers and garner millions of views on videos.
Preston became popular for his rowdy energy and hilarious dance moves.
In many of his viral videos, the toddler would answer his mom's instructions with "okay" before directly disobeying her by goofing off or jumping in mud puddles, sparking his nickname as the "Okay Baby."
Carson Matranga, Brielle's husband and a fellow TikToker, shared a sweet message with fans in the video posted to Katelynn's accounts.
'I know you guys looked forward to seeing him every day," Carson said about Preston in the clip.
"I know that in heaven right now, if there's mud in heaven, he's probably found it."
GoFundMe set up for the family has raised over $35,000.

TikTok megastar Khaby Lame leaves United States after getting detained by ICE amid Trump immigration crackdowns

TikToker Khaby Lame has departed the United States voluntarily after he was detained by ICE. An ICE spokesperson revealed in a statement obtained by that Lame - an Italian citizen born in Senegal - was detained by the agency on June 6 due to 'immigration violations' after entering the U.S. on April 30. Khaby - whose full name is Seringe Khabane Lame - was granted voluntary departure and has now left the country. 'U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained Seringe Khabane Lame, 25, a citizen of Italy, June 6, at the Harry Reid International Airport, Las Vegas, Nevada for immigration violations. Lame entered the United States April 30 and overstayed the terms of his visa. Lame was granted voluntary departure June 6 and has since departed the U.S.' has representatives for Lame for comment. Conservative influencer Bo Loudon claimed to have reported Lame on June 6 and posted an alleged screenshot from the ICE website stating he was at Henderson Detention Center in Nevada. Khaby, who posts posts under the name @ and moved from Senegal to Chivasso, close to Turin in Italy aged one. He officially became an Italian citizen in 2022. The social media sensation was working as a factory worker when he was made redundant in 2020 at the start of the pandemic. He told the New York Times that he began spending hours of his free time every day posting TikTok videos - and his comedy clips soon started going viral. His most watched videos include him deriding a fellow TikToker who cuts himself free from a car door by shearing through his t-shirt - which has had more than 158 million views. Khaby films himself in the same predicament but instead of reaching for the scissors to hack his way out of the situation, he simply opens the car door to free himself - and then offers his signature shrug of exasperation. Another TikTok clip sees the joker mocking someone who uses a plastic pizza saver to cut their takeaway Italian staple dish into slices. Khaby simply neatly divides his own using his hands - and then lifts in shoulders in frustration. Much of his success appears to come from the fact he doesn't usually speak in his clips, he thinks. While the work opportunities have flooded in since his rise to the top of the TikTok rankings, he said at the time that he's not yet set for earning 'steadily' - but planned to snap up a house for his mother as soon as he could afford it. Khaby, a huge Juventus fan, has been open about his tough start in life, telling Olhar Digital last year: 'Public housing is a place to which I owe everything. They taught me education and allowed me to cultivate many bonds.' The social media comedian, who posts in English and Italian, also has no time for dramatic over-reactions - or people who offer up delayed reactions when something goes wrong, while pointless life hacks are his biggest targets. 'I came up with the idea because I was seeing these videos circulating, and I liked the idea of bringing some simplicity to it,' Khaby said to CNN last year, 'I thought of a way to reach as many people as possible. And the best way was not to speak.' The star told the US newspaper that the success behind his videos are down to the fact that he speaks a 'global language', saying he has a huge following in Brazil and South America. He now rubs shoulders with A-listers, appears on red carpets and has run the catwalk at Milan Fashion Week in 2022. Last month, he attended the star-studded Met Gala.

Mum's 'miracle' as son missing for six weeks returns home after 'police mistake'

"He was a vulnerable young adult. I don't understand why they just let him go in that condition. They should have shown more of a duty of care." A mum has told of a "miracle" as her teenage son returned home after going missing for six weeks following a "huge police mistake". Deante James, 17, vanished from his home in Enfield, North London, in March after smoking what he thought was cannabis. He was then found on May 17. ‌ The teen was unaware it contained the synthetic cannabinoid Spice, which can cause psychosis. Deante, a normally ambitious boy who loved going to the gym, began hallucinating and hearing voices. His worried family took him to hospital, where doctors had said he had signs of drug-induced psychosis. ‌ He received treatment and was on the mend, but back at home he had another episode and on March 31 bolted out of the back door without his mobile phone or any money. Six weeks passed before he was found. Just as his mum, Vandana Bhogowoth, was losing hope, the police called to say he was safe and in hospital. Speaking to the Mirror, she said: 'I don't think I'll ever forget that day. It was probably one of the best days of my life. Oh my God, the emotions – I just burst out crying. I've never felt happiness like it. It was pure happiness – and relief.' The single mum thanked the Mirror and Sunday Mirror for running its Missed campaign, which she credits with helping to find him. Vandana, 36 – who prayed to God for help two days before hearing Deante was found on May 17 – said: 'The publicity made the police take the case more seriously. I'm really thankful to everyone, also my local MP and the Missing People charity, who pushed the police to take it seriously and get him found. I think highlighting it did push them. Everyone collectively helped – thank you. I'm so grateful.' ‌ Deante was admitted to hospital had told staff he was 18, and his parents were not traced. Vandana first told her story to the Mirror on May 11, at which point she did not know whether Deante was dead or alive. She had been told her son had been arrested by British Transport Police three days after he went missing for not being able to pay his tube fare - only for them to let him go. The college teacher now knows this was because Deante had given his name the wrong way round, and it did not flag him up as missing. She has also learned police made every effort to obtain historic mobile phone data to identify any associates who might have known where he was and trawled CCTV footage to try to locate him. ‌ But despite Deante giving the BTP officers his correct date of birth and address, police did not contact her. While Vandana searched, his older sister Jaidaima, 19, created a TikTok video of her and her brother to try to help find him. It was viewed more than 73,000 times. While grateful to the police for finding her son and letting her know he was safe, Vandana still feels a lack of joined-up communication between the essential services meant he fell through the cracks. ‌ Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! He was a vulnerable young adult. I don't understand why they just let him go in that condition. They should have shown more of a duty of care. He was a teenager with no money and no phone. Why didn't they phone his parents? "It makes me really upset because I think the [police and hospital ] could have saved me and my family this ordeal and the devastation of not knowing where he was. I tried to stay as positive as I could, but at the back of my mind I did have dark thoughts, like, 'What if he's been kidnapped? What if he's dead?'' Vandana says Deante is 'absolutely fine' now. The relieved mum adds: 'He's recovering and he's going to get back to his absolute best self, so I'm really happy, positive and extremely grateful to everyone. He's looking forward to getting his life back on track and following his dreams. As a family we can't wait to celebrate his 18th birthday now. We're going to spoil him.'

Body found in search for woman who disappeared after leaving London home

A body has been found by police searching for a Colombian woman who vanished after leaving her east London home. Yajaira Castro Mendez, 46, was reported missing on May 31 having left her home in Ilford on the morning of May 29. Her family has been told about the discovery of the body, which was found during searches in Hampshire's Bolderwood area on Saturday, but formal identification has yet to be made. Detective Inspector Jay Gregory said: 'This is a very sad development in the investigation and our thoughts are very much with Yajaira's family and friends at this incredibly difficult time. 'We continue to appeal to anyone with information that could assist the investigation to please come forward.' A post-mortem examination has yet to take place. The Met said a man who was known to Ms Castro Mendez appeared in court on Friday charged with her murder and was remanded into custody. Her disappearance was initially treated as a missing person investigation led by local officers. The investigation was then transferred to the Met's Specialist Crime Command on June 5, after a range of extensive further inquiries suggested she had come to harm. Police were at a scene in Gray's Inn Road, Camden, on Friday as part of their investigation.
