Finns Celebrate Midsummer With Bonfires, Tradition On Seurasaari Island
HELSINKI, June 21 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- Thousands gathered on Helsinki's Seurasaari Island Friday evening to celebrate Juhannus Eve, marking the start of Finland's cherished Midsummer Festival with bonfires and folk traditions, reported Xinhua.
Held at the Seurasaari Open-Air Museum, the event recreated countryside-style celebrations for locals and visitors.
Festivities began at around 6:30 pm local time with the raising of a maypole adorned with ribbons and greenery, a symbol of fertility and renewal. Throughout the evening, the crowd enjoy folk dancing, wreath-making, stilt walking, Finnish delicacies, and local crafts.

At dusk, several ceremonial bonfires were lit along the shore. Music and laughter continue late into the night.
"Juhannus is about light, nature, and togetherness," said festivalgoer Miikka Heikinen. "It's the heart of the Finnish summer."
Midsummer, officially observed on the Saturday between June 20 and 26, marks the longest day of the year. In northern Finland, the sun barely sets, while the south experiences only brief twilight.
The Seurasaari Midsummer celebration dates back over a century and has been organised annually since 1956.
Beyond Seurasaari, Helsinki offers additional Juhannus events, from nostalgic dance nights to scenic ferry rides and traditional saunas. Yet for many, the holiday is best spent at lakeside cottages, savoring nature and the glow of the midnight sun.

Luxury, Privacy And Halal Delights Keep KL A Firm Favourite Among Gulf Tourists
By Atira Khalisha Nor Adnan KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 13 (Bernama) -- Beyond its world-class shopping malls, the Federal capital continues to attract visitors from Arab countries thanks to luxurious accommodation options that offer high levels of privacy. Adding to the appeal, travellers can enjoy a wide variety of halal cuisine, from traditional Malay, Chinese and Indian dishes to Middle Eastern fare, making Arab visitors feel right at home. According to the latest Tourism Malaysia statistics, the country welcomed 51,918 visitors from the Middle East between January and May 2025, comprising travellers from Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Oman, Syria, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Qatar. Tourism Malaysia director-general Datuk P. Manoharan said Arab visitors' preference for Kuala Lumpur is also driven by an environment that supports their lifestyle and cultural needs, including the facilities available. 'For example, Middle Eastern restaurants in Kuala Lumpur not only serve authentic dishes but also offer additional touches such as shisha lounges, Arabic music, Middle Eastern-themed décor, bilingual menus (Arabic and English), and private dining rooms for families. 'Many staff can also converse in Arabic, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere,' he told Bernama. Nicknamed 'Arab Street', the Bukit Bintang area remains a major draw for Middle Eastern visitors, especially from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries like Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar, thanks to its strategic location near iconic shopping destinations such as Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, The Exchange TRX and Suria KLCC. On accommodation preferences, Manoharan said Arab travellers prioritise privacy, often opting for luxury hotels that offer sky pool villas or private pool villas for family leisure time.

ALR Launches RM68 SMART Merdeka Pass With 50 Pct Savings
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 13 (Bernama) -- Amanat Lebuhraya Rakyat Berhad (ALR) launched the SMART Merdeka Unlimited Travel Pass (MUTP) today, in conjunction with the 2025 National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations. Priced at RM68, the pass will be available from Aug 16 to Sept 16, offering nearly 50 percent savings for users of the Stormwater Management and Road Tunnel (SMART). Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi described the MUTP as a people-centric initiative that embodies the inclusive spirit of Malaysia MADANI, prioritising public well-being. 'Daily commuters who use the tunnel, about 44 times a month, can save up to RM64, as average monthly toll expenses can reach RM132. 'It also provides faster access to the city centre via a highway that carries an average of 19,000 vehicles daily, while supporting the operation of the world's only dual-purpose tunnel combining traffic and floodwater management,' he said at the launch. Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the initiative demonstrates that industry players, particularly in the infrastructure sector, can take proactive steps to help the public manage daily living expenses, especially in urban areas. 'Such programmes not only strengthen public confidence in the highway industry but also align with the Malaysia MADANI principles, which emphasise a balance between economic growth and social justice, while fostering respect and compassion in service delivery,' he said. The MUTP can be purchased at 12 SMART Highway toll lanes from Kuala Lumpur (northbound) and Sungai Besi (southbound), at the SMART Toll Plaza sales counter, and the Dataran Singgahsana exhibition area in Tun Razak Exchange (TRX). -- BERNAMA
