TikTok users are raving about this 'underrated' UK seaside town - and it's no wonder why. The destination boasts two beaches, a charming lighthouse and an award-winning bakery
The prospect of a sunny summer has many Brits contemplating a staycation this year instead of jetting off overseas. Staycations, which became exceedingly popular during the Covid pandemic, are proving to be just as enjoyable and sun-soaked as trips abroad – and they often come with less hassle and a smaller price tag.
With summer around the corner, it's the perfect time to discover some of Britain's finest beaches, perhaps visiting a coastal town that's new to you? TikTok influencer and travel expert @lotteboo3 took to the platform to shine a light on what she considers an "underrated" seaside treasure.

Southwold, hailed as a "classic seaside town" by the Express, is nestled in Suffolk and ticks all the boxes for a quintessential British staycation.

The town is home to two inviting beaches, Southwold Pier Beach to the north and Southwold Denes Beach to the south. Holiday-goers will be greeted by rows of quaint, brightly coloured beach huts that line the shore, injecting vibrant butter yellows, whites, and blues into the scenery.
The TikTok user posted footage of an "award-winning bakery", overflowing with delectable sausage rolls, gingerbread men, croissants, and assorted pastries.
She also highlighted a "charming lighthouse" – perfect for those holiday photos – and a magnificent pier where visitors can leave their mark by adding personalised plaques.

The official Southwold Pier website even offers a Pier Plaque Creator, giving tourists the chance to craft their own plaque as a "great gift, a wonderful surprise or a memento of your visit".
Holidaymakers heading to Southwold are in for a treat, with the chance to meander through its picturesque streets dotted with colourful abodes, discover distinctive independent boutiques, and relish traditional coastal pleasures such as ice cream.
Lotte's TikTok showcase of Southwold has captured the imagination of social media users, racking up nearly 32,000 likes and over 3,200 saves.
The post has sparked some serious wanderlust, prompting more than 1,000 shares as people plot their next escape. Admiring comments flooded in from fans of the town, with one user, @Goodgriefisthatthetime, professing: "Worked at scores of seaside towns all over the UK. By far the cleanest, well looked after."
Meanwhile, Laura Marsh joined in the chorus, saying, "We live down the road from Southwold, definitely one of our happy places. Great beer and fish and chips."
Numerous commenters labelled Southwold as their "happy place", including Bethany who revealed, "I absolutely love it here I go every year, it's like a second home".
Adding to the endorsements, Caitlin Harvey shared her six-year working experience in Southwold, concluding: "Worked here for six years. Can't deny that it's actually a lovely place to visit."

Sweeping changes were announced earlier this month to ITV Daytime shows that will impact the likes of This Morning, Loose Women and Lorraine. 6 This Morning star Rochelle Humes has revealed a HUGE change to the show amid ITV cuts Credit: ITV 6 Rochelle revealed the rule in a TikTok video Credit: Tiktok 6 She showed her fans the process of getting ready for the show Credit: Tiktok 6 Rochelle could be seen donning blue jeans and a white shirt Credit: Tiktok 6 Fans loved the chic look Credit: Tiktok More than 220 jobs will be lost as part of the shake-up — meaning almost half of the 450 employed on the four flagship shows GMB, Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women will be let go. But amid the changes, This Morning have introduced a new rule. The show has long had an unwritten rule in place that meant presenters could not wear a specific item of clothing. All of the presenters - past and present - are known for being dressed smartly. Rochelle Humes, who is now a staple of the This Morning rotation, revealed the new rule. Ahead of an episode earlier this week, Rochelle took to TikTok to tell her fans about the rule change. The 35-year-old former star of The Saturdays said: "There's a new rule, we didn't used to be allowed to wear jeans, did we? "But we can wear jeans now. "This is amazing news for me." Reacting to her video on the social media platform, fans were quick to swoon over the outfit she had picked out for the show. This Morning viewers can't believe Dermot O'Leary's 'real age' as he and Alison Hammond celebrate his birthday on air "Smart yet casual yet fun & relaxed," said one. "Obsessed with this outfit," penned a second. Rochelle then appeared live on the show wearing a pair of light-wash River Island denim jeans. This isn't the only way the show has started to become more relatable. ITV's daytime TV schedule changes in full Good Morning Britain will be extended by 30 minutes to run from 6am to 9.30am daily. Lorraine will run from 9.30am-10am, on a seasonal basis for 30 weeks of the year. During the weeks Lorraine is not on air, Good Morning Britain will run from 6am to 10am. The changes will take effect from January 2026. Cat Deeley, who is one of the show's new anchors, was recently asked to embrace her Brummie accent. The star's Birmingham accent was softened during her years on American TV, but now she has been asked to lean back into it as to appeal to the UK audience. An ITV insider previously told MailOnline: "This Morning want presenters their audiences can relate to and there were worries Cat was too perfect and preened." This comes amid ITV's shocking shakeup that will see hundreds of people lose their jobs at the channel. Good Morning Britain will be extended by 30 minutes to run from 6am to 9.30am daily. 'Inhuman' queues at Spanish airport force officials into emergency meeting

Tenerife's President has called for an emergency meeting after 'inhuman' queues at the Spanish airport left Brits and other tourists waiting for two hours in a 'third world' situation. Top Spanish officials have urgently convened following a debacle that saw British holidaymakers caught in two-hour queues and facing "inhuman" conditions at the onset of the school holidays, all before they could even pass through passport control. On Monday (May 26), approximately 500 UK tourists were left stranded on the tarmac at Tenerife South Airport for as long as 45 minutes. Upon disembarking, they were greeted by out-of-service escalators and extensive queues snaking through the terminal for passport inspection. ‌ Inside the airport, reports emerged of only four officials operating a mere two passport booths, leading to overcrowded conditions that passengers labelled as "claustrophobic" and reminiscent of "third world" standards. ‌ Lourdes Tourecillas, a local returning from Bristol, recounted to Canarian Weekly the dire situation: "Some parents lifted their children onto their shoulders to stop them from suffocating," she said, also noting the absence of toilets and visible distress among the people. Rosa Dávila, President of Tenerife's governing council, has responded to the incident with an emergency meeting, as such chaos and lengthy queues have become all too familiar scenes at this bustling hub during high tourist seasons, reports the Mirror. She added: "This is a structural issue. We can't continue to operate with the same staffing levels we had pre-Brexit." Monday posed a significant challenge for travellers as the airport's automated checking systems failed to process children's passports effectively. Consequently, families were subjected to long queues in the sweltering heat, with their children and luggage in tow, creating a stressful start to their holidays. ‌ The council's President expressed her frustration after reaching out to mainland politicians and getting no substantial reply. "There's a serious lack of respect towards Tenerife. We're managing essential services locally, but without state support, we're being left to fail," she stated. Lope Afonso, Tenerife's Tourism Minister, conveyed his concerns regarding the negative impact on the island's tourism image. "This is the first impression our visitors get. After hours on a plane, they're met with long waits and no explanation. It's not acceptable, and it's hurting our brand as a quality tourist destination," he remarked. "Tenerife competes globally. Other countries have adapted their systems since Brexit. Why haven't we?". A warning was also issued by him for future holiday goers, especially in anticipation of the forthcoming summer rush, underlining the urgency of the situation. "We need immediate solutions to avoid this happening again, especially with the busy summer season ahead," he cautioned.
