Dodgers All-Star Drops Major Shohei Ohtani Update
After flying out of the gate, the Los Angeles Dodgers are scuffling, having lost six of their past nine games. They will get several key boosts throughout the season, though, with one of them being Shohei Ohtani's return to the mound as a pitcher. One of his teammates, Tyler Glasnow, offered an encouraging update on his status recently.
Ohtani raked at the plate for the Dodgers last season, posting a .310 batting average with 54 home runs and 130 runs batted in, but he did not pitch at all after undergoing Tommy John surgery. Ohtani threw his third bullpen session of the season on Saturday, with manager Dave Roberts weighing in on his status.

'Came out of it well,' Roberts said. 'I think it's just going to continue to build up, build on that. And we'll see where he goes from there. Velocity was good. I think that they want to keep him right around 90 miles an hour ... He was right where they needed him to be.'

The expectation is that Ohtani will pitch again this season, but his actual return date is unknown. Despite that, Glasnow said he's seen Ohtani during a couple of his throwing sessions, and his update on his superstar teammate will surely get Dodgers fans everywhere hyped for his impending return.
"I was out there for his bullpen two days ago, and it looked good," Glasnow said on "Fair Territory." "Effortless, good velo, still just getting his footing about him ... I've watched a few of his throwing programs, and it's trending up in the right direction, and I think everything is feeling really good for him too."
Over his first 17 games this season, Ohtani is hitting .273 with four home runs and five runs batted in. The Dodgers will look to get back in the win column when they open a three-game series against the Colorado Rockies on Monday night.

Could Shohei Ohtani return as a pitcher soon? Dodgers manager Dave Roberts teases comeback
Shohei Ohtani is now a year and a half into his Los Angeles Dodgers career without throwing a pitch from an MLB mound. That might finally change soon. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts indicated an Ohtani return could be near while speaking with reporters ahead of Sunday's game against the San Francisco Giants. He announced Ohtani would be throwing to live hitters early next week, then was asked if that would be his final step before making a full return to the mound. Advertisement The first, and most important, word of Roberts' answer: "Potentially." His full response: "Potentially. He's getting very eager, getting very exited. I think that there's a point in hearing from Shohei that the effort that it takes to throw live and play a game, let's use those bullets in a game. So he's getting very excited." Ohtani was expected to be a hitter only in his first season with the Dodgers, but the team hoped he could resume the two-way responsibilities that made him a superstar by Opening Day of this year. That obviously hasn't happened, as a torn labrum in his non-throwing shoulder sustained in the 2024 World Series threw off his offseason rehab timetable. The Dodgers have been as hazy as possible when it comes to Ohtani's current timetable, though it's well-established he won't be going on a rehab assignment because his bat is too valuable. Roberts' comments on Sunday indicated the date might not be too far ahead in the future. Advertisement It's been a chaotic time in general for the Dodgers' rotation, which is currently without Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, Roki Sasaki and many more. Glasnow and Snell could both be a month away, while Roberts said Sunday that Sasaki has been shut down from throwing, with no timetable for a return. When asked if Sasaki, currently on the IL with a right shoulder impingement, was no longer in the team's long-term plans for 2025, Roberts answered in the affirmative. The rotation is at least set to get a boost soon, as Emmet Sheehan, out since spring training of 2024 with Tommy John surgery, is currently finishing up a rehab assignment. Roberts said there is a "very high likelihood" of him getting activated to fill a rotation hole on either Tuesday or Wednesday.

Rockies on track for worst MLB season ever
DENVER (KDVR) — The Colorado Rockies are on track to become the owners of the worst season ever recorded in the history of the MLB. When people refer to records, they often mean in the modern era of the MLB, but the Rockies are not only on pace to be the worst of the modern era, but all of the MLB since its inception in 1876. Advertisement The team has yet to hit double-digit wins this season and stands at a 9-47 record, with just a third of the 162-game season out of the way. The 2024 Chicago White Sox set the modern era's worst season when they finished 41-121 last year. The Rockies are on pace to be well below that mark. Colorado Parks and Wildlife kills grey wolf in Pitkin County after attacks on livestock The last unwanted record the Rockies set was at the 50-game mark, when the team claimed the worst 50-game start to a season in the MLB modern era. Since that point, the Rockies have only won a single game, albeit against the New York Yankees, who are one of the top teams in the league at the moment. Advertisement On Friday evening, the Rockies take on the Yankees' noisy neighbor, the New York Mets, also one of the best teams in the league, for the start of a three-game series, and a six-game road trip that ends with three games against the Miami Marlins after the turn of the month. If things keep going as they are currently, the Rockies will finish the season with the most losses ever recorded at 136 losses for the 2025 season. The most losses are held by teams including: 1899 Cleveland Spiders: 20-134, .131% 1916 Philadelphia A's: 36-117, .235% 1935 Boston Braves: 38-115, .248% 1962 New York Mets: 40-120, .250% 1904 Washington Senators: 38-113, .252% 2024 Chicago White Sox: 41-121, .253% The Rockies are on the hunt for 10 wins and will achieve double digits with the team's next victory.
