13 Men Arrested in Singapore Over Alleged Links to Unlawful Societies
The Secret Societies Branch of the Criminal Investigation Department conducted an island-wide secret society suppression operation, supported by Jurong Police Division, on May 23 and 24.
Over 40 public entertainment, nightlife, and food and beverage venues, as well as over 90 people, were inspected.
All 13 people are the subject of current police investigations.
Anyone convicted of being a member of an unlawful society under Section 14(3) of the Societies Act 1966 faces up to three years in prison, a $10,000 fine, or both.
Between 2022 and 2024, more than 1,300 suspected members of illegal societies were detained.
Figures from the Singapore Prison Service also showed that there has been a spike in the number of youngsters jailed for their involvement in secret society activities under the Criminal Law (Temporary Provisions) Act.

This is not the first time this year controversy has surrounded the national flag. A primary school in Port Dickson apologised earlier in August after mistakenly hanging it upside down ahead of celebrating Malaysia's independence. SAF regular serviceman dies after being found unconscious at Hendon Camp swimming pool
SINGAPORE: A Singapore Armed Forces regular serviceman has died after he was found unconscious at Hendon Camp swimming pool, said the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) in a news release on Saturday (Aug 9). He was discovered at 7.15am on Saturday, and appeared to have been training on his own, added Mindef. "CPR and AED were administered immediately. The Singapore Police Force and Singapore Civil Defence Force were activated, and the serviceman was evacuated to Changi General Hospital via SCDF ambulance," the release read. "Resuscitation continued on route and upon arrival at Changi General Hospital. Despite resuscitation efforts, he was pronounced dead at 7.44am. "The Ministry of Defence and the SAF extend their deepest condolences to the family of the late serviceman." Mindef said it is providing assistance to the family.

Singapore Police Arrest 49-Year-Old Man Linked to Repeated Outrage of Modesty Reports
A 49-year-old man was arrested for his suspected involvement in a series of outrage of modesty cases. The Singapore Police Force (SPF) said that they received a report on August 5 at about 11.30 pm that an unknown man had allegedly molested a woman at Serangoon NEX Shopping mall. The officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the man through follow-up investigations and arrested him within 15 hours of the report. SPF said in a press statement, "Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is believed to be involved in at least five other cases of outrage of modesty." "The man will be charged in court on August 8 for the offence of outrage of modesty under Section 354(1) of the Penal Code 1871," added the police. The offense carries a maximum sentence of three years in prison, a fine, caning, or any combination of these penalties.
