Rare guitars donated to Witney charity shop fetch £12,000 at auction
It sold for £2,200, whilst a Martin D-28 acoustic guitar - favoured by artists like Dylan and Neil Young - fetched £3,400.
Explaining how he and his fellow Witney volunteers received the donation, Chris Meadows said: "Near the end of last year, a chap came in and asked if we took in guitars as donations.""I don't know anything about guitars, but I remember seeing the cases and thinking they looked valuable – not knowing quite how valuable they were."Mr Meadows said he and his fellow volunteers researched the collection and "pretty quickly realised how special" the guitars were."The very generous gentleman who donated them must have known they were very valuable, and knew what kind of money they might be able to help make for Oxfam," he added.
The collection, which was sold at Ewbank's auction house in Woking, Surrey, also included a Gibson ES 335 electric guitar and a Gretsch White Falcon G6136-55VS electric guitar.John Silke, Ewbank's Music Valuer, said each one of the guitars would be "high on any guitar players' dream list"."Instruments of this quality and condition don't come in every day so this was a very special and generous donation. It is fantastic that they have been able to raise so much money for Oxfam," he said.

British brand Vauxhall is taking its all-electric GSE performance sub-brand to a new level, revealing the radical Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo – a fully electric concept car boasting 800hp, a 0-62mph time of just two seconds and a top speed of 199mph. The car, which premieres at the IAA Mobility show in Munich on 8 September, will also have a digital debut in PS5 racing sim Gran Turismo 7 this autumn, in what Vauxhall boldly calls a 'phygital' launch. 'The Vauxhall Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo takes the GSE sub-brand to the next level,' said Steve Catlin, managing director at Vauxhall. 'It not only shows what is possible on a small car platform, it also displays a clear view to the future.' At the core of the concept is a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive electric powertrain delivering a combined 800hp and 800Nm of torque. A boost function provides an additional 80hp for up to four seconds to aid overtaking on track. Vauxhall had hinted that the concept has an eye on racing, saying it 'will be very much at home on the racing track and offer a thrilling yet comfortable and safe driving experience'. The concept was created by Vauxhall's design team at the Opel headquarters in Germany, led by Brit Mark Adams, Vauxhall and Opel's Vice-President of Design. Adams has been heading up Vauxhall design for over two decades, and his team was also responsible for Vauxhall/Opel's last show car, the Vauxhall Experimental, which appeared at the Munich Motor Show in 2023. While that car was purely a concept previewing the latest design themes across Vauxhall's model range, this latest concept is taking that on further and could preview a production GSE model that we see sometime in 2026.

HBO reveals Weasley family casting for Harry Potter series
HBO Max has announced the casting for several Weasley family members, including Tristan Harland as Fred, Gabriel Harland as George, Ruari Spooner as Percy, and Gracie Cochrane as Ginny for HBO's forthcoming Harry Potter series. These new cast members join Alastair Stout, who was previously announced as Ron Weasley, though actors for Charlie and Bill Weasley are yet to be revealed. The main trio, Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, were cast several months prior. Music to die for: List of funeral favourite songs released
The most popular songs played at funerals have been revealed, with Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman's Time To Say Goodbye top of the list. Co-op Funeralcare said its study of songs over the past year at funerals it arranged showed the second most popular was Frank Sinatra's My Way. Tina Turner's The Best and Westlife's You Raise Me Up were also in the top 10. The Co-op said the top 10 were: 1. Time to Say Goodbye – Andrea Bocelli, Sarah Brightman2. My Way – Frank Sinatra3. Among the quirky songs played at funerals over the last year, included Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead from The Wizard of Oz, Dance Monkey by Tones & I, the Jaws movie soundtrack, and We Like To Party by Vengaboys. Gill Stewart, managing director at Co-op Funeralcare said: 'Music has a powerful way of bringing back memories, reflecting our personalities, and connecting us to loved ones. 'Choosing a song that is meaningful to you can be an important part of saying goodbye, whether it's a traditional hymn or something light-hearted and quirky. 'While every funeral is unique and deeply personal, our annual music chart highlights the tracks that continue to resonate across the nation. 'This year, we're continuing to encourage open conversations around end-of-life planning. 'Talking about the music you'd like at your funeral is a simple yet meaningful step and can offer real comfort to those left behind.' The research was conducted among Co-op's funeral directors and arrangers during May and June 2025 based on more than 90,000 funerals conducted in the last 12 months.
