India Today21 hours ago

Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court will pronounce its order on the Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) closure report concerning the disappearance of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student Najeeb Ahmed on June 30, when it will decide on both CBI's closure report, and the petition filed by Ahmed's Mother against CBI's decision to close the case. The decision follows the court's request for further clarifications from the prosecution regarding specific aspects of the investigation.advertisementDuring the hearing on Thursday, the court sought details about the proctorial inquiry conducted by JNU after the incident on October 14, 2016, which involved an alleged altercation between Ahmed and members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). It also sought information on the statements of doctors recorded under Section 161 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).
The public prosecutor appearing on behalf of the CBI informed the court that one of the doctors had been treating Ahmed for depression. The court also provided the Investigating Officer with relevant files and asked for details on the other statements recorded during the investigation. Considering the clarifications made by the CBI, the court decided to re-notify the matter for orders on June 30.Najeeb Ahmed, a 27-year-old first-year MSc Biotechnology student at JNU, went missing on October 15, 2016, following an alleged scuffle with ABVP members the previous night.Despite extensive investigations by the Delhi Police and later by the CBI, Ahmed's whereabouts still remain unknown. In 2018, a closure report was filed by the CBI, stating that no evidence had been found to suggest any criminal activity related to Ahmed's disappearance.Trending Reel

Piyush Jain case: Court dismisses accused application, hearing on July 4

1 2 Kanpur: Special chief judicial magistrate Kanpur Nagar Kumud Lata Tripathi on Friday dismissed the application of accused Piyush Jain and Sunil A Hirani in the much-publicised case in which the GST department had recovered approximately Rs 195 crore cash and gold bars weighing around 22 kgs. The DGGI Ahmedabad had raided perfume trader Piyush Jain's houses situated at Anandpuri Kanpur and Kannauj on December 21, 2021. The department had seized Rs 196 crore in cash and 23 kg gold from his possession. Piyush was ultimately arrested on December 27, 2021. He was bailed out after about eight months. The prosecution had made thirteen other persons accused apart from Piyush. All are currently on bail. Both accused had previously applied for the case diary and other documents as per provisions of the Cr PC which was strongly opposed by the prosecution. According to Ambrish Tandon, special prosecutor for DGGI Ahmedabad, the accused applicants pressed their demand on last date while he submitted that CD/DVD containing 479 to 11,455 pages of the charge sheet had already been provided to the counsel of Sunil A Hirani and the same had also been provided to Piyush Jain on October 20, 2023. Both had acknowledged receipt on the order sheet of the case file present in the court. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Hamburg: GEERS sucht 700 Testhörer für Hörgeräte ohne Zuzahlung GEERS Undo He stated that since copies of the documents had already been furnished by the court, it appears that this application had been filed only to delay proceedings. Therefore, the court should dismiss the application of Hirani and Piyush Jain. The court, which had reserved its order on the previous date, delivered the verdict and dismissed the accused applicants' plea. The magistrate in her order observed that since all documents had already been delivered by the prosecution to the accused, there was no reason to deliver them again. The application was viewed as a tactic to delay the trial and thus was dismissed. The next date was fixed as July 4 for hearing. Tandon informed that the prosecution would now present its evidence. CBI: Hisar man raped multiple kids, used them for pornography

The Hisar district Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Friday asked the CBI to arrange counselling sessions for the victims of an alleged sexual predator who has been arrested by the central agency for raping and circulating explicit child sexual abuse material on the internet. The CBI arrested the 40-year-old physically challenged bachelor from his Hisar residence on June 3, days after a case was registered on May 29 on charges of rape and sexual assault on multiple minor victims. The man was arrested following searches at his residence. The agency said it has seized electronic gadgets containing incriminating material, which showed that he allegedly raped, sexually assaulted, and threatened multiple children for pornography. Sources within the agency said that the accused, who operated a common service centre (CSC) in a rural area, had been exploiting the victims over the past few years. Two of the minor victims Thursday recorded their statements with the Hisar Child Welfare Committee. A member of the Committee, Manoj Kaushik said that the panel will ensure protection and welfare of the victims apart from financial assistance to them. The committee is established under the Juvenile Justice Act (J J Act), 2015, to handle cases of children in need of care and protection. They have the powers of a first-class magistrate and are responsible for providing care, protection, treatment, development, and rehabilitation for these children. According to the CBI, none of the victims or their families had approached police with the complaint before the agency charged the accused for creating, browsing, collecting, possessing, exchanging, and uploading child sexual abuse material. The agency identified the accused and the victims using the Interpol's International Child Sexual Exploitation (ICSE) database and Cyber Tipline Reports, generated by Google and submitted it to Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C). 'The analysis of the images and videos using cyber forensic tools revealed the location of the incidents to Hisar in Haryana, depicting multiple victims of sexual assault and abuse by the accused,' said the CBI.
