New Delhi: Delhi Airport is the only Indian airport to be among top 10 hub airports in the Asia-Pacific and Middle East region, according to the 2024 Air Connectivity Ranking released by Airports Council International Asia-Pacific & Middle East (ACI APAC and MID).
The ranking, topped by Dubai International Airport, recognises Delhi Airport's growing stature as a global transit hub, with seamless connectivity to 153 destinations worldwide, including 81 domestic and 72 international routes.
It is also in line with the Government of India's endeavour to develop Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport as a global transit hub.
CEO of Delhi International Airport Limited, Videh Kumar Jaipuriar said, "We are immensely proud and honored that Delhi Airport has been recognized as one of the top 10 hub airports in the Asia-Pacific and Middle East region in the 2024 Air Connectivity Ranking by Airports Council International."
"Being the only Indian airport to achieve this distinction is a testament to our unwavering commitment to excellence, innovation, and passenger-centric service," said Jaipuriar. "Together, we will continue to enhance connectivity, improve passenger experience, and uphold our position as a premier gateway connecting India to the world."
Under its ambitious Phase 3A expansion project, DIAL has successfully doubled the International-to-International transfer area, enhancing capacity and passenger convenience. New biometric registration kiosks for e-visa holders are among several recent upgrades designed to streamline the travel experience.
Delhi Airport emerges as a gateway to the world:
Delhi Airport has significantly broadened its global footprint by adding over 20 exclusive international destinations in recent years. New routes include Phnom Penh, Bali Denpasar, Calgary, Montreal, Vancouver, Washington Dulles, Chicago O'Hare, Tokyo Haneda, and more, the airport operator said in a statement.
Over the past decade, transfer passenger volume has doubled, underscoring Delhi Airport's emergence as a premier transit hub in South Asia.
Delhi connects to 88% of India's long-haul destinations and operates 56 per cent of all India-origin long-haul weekly flights. Nearly half (42 per cent) of all long-haul passengers from India choose Delhi as their travel gateway.
Each year, Delhi Airport facilitates seamless connections for 4 million domestic passengers traveling onward to international destinations.
"With Indian carriers increasingly deploying wide-body aircraft, Delhi Airport is on track to become a Global gateway hub, strengthening its role as the preferred gateway for international and long-haul travellers," the airport operator said in the statement.
The 2025 edition of the ACI rankings introduced a 'Hub Connectivity Index', which evaluates airports on the quality and effectiveness of their hub operations. The index considers factors such as: * Transfer viability and window timings * Route deviations from optimal paths * Strength and reach of onward connectivity.
Dubai International Airport leads this year's Hub Connectivity Index, followed by Shanghai Pudong and Hamad International Airports. Delhi Airport has secured the 10th spot.

RBI cuts cash reserve ratio by 100 bps cut to boost liquidity

Mumbai: In a major move to boost liquidity in the economy, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Friday announced a cut in the Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) by 100 basis points in four tranches of 25bps each. With this, the CRR has been reduced from 4 per cent to 3 per cent, which is expected to release about Rs 2.5 lakh crore into the banking system. RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra, while announcing the decisions of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), also stated that the policy stance has been changed from "accommodative" to "neutral". He said, "Hence, the MPC also decided to change the stance from accommodative to neutral. From here onwards, the MPC will be carefully assessing the incoming data and the evolving outlook to chart out the future course of monetary policy in order to strike the right growth inflation balance". He explained that after a cumulative repo rate cut of 100 basis points since February 2025, the space for further monetary support is now limited. The Governor said, "The inflation outlook therefore for the year is now being revised downwards from our earlier forecast of 4 per cent to 3.7 per cent." Inflation has seen a significant drop over the past six months, coming down from above the tolerance band in October 2024 to 3.2 per cent in April 2025. Governor Malhotra noted that the moderation in inflation is broad-based, supported by easing international commodity prices and expectations of a global growth slowdown. He said, "assuming a normal monsoon, CPI inflation for the financial year 2025-2026 is now projected at 3.7 per cent, as I mentioned earlier, this is a downward revision from our earlier forecast of 4 per cent. We are projecting inflation for Q1 at 2.9 per cent, Q2 at 3.4 per cent, Q3 at 3.9 per cent, and Q4 at 4.4 per cent. The risks are evenly balanced." On the growth front, the RBI retained its GDP growth forecast for 2025-26 at 6.5 per cent. The quarterly projections are 6.5 per cent for Q1, 6.7 per cent for Q2, 6.6 per cent for Q3, and 6.3 per cent for Q4. He said, "Taking all factors into consideration, real GDP growth rate for this year 2025-26 is projected at 6.5 per cent. We continue with our earlier forecast with Q1 at 6.5 per cent, Q2 at 6.7 per cent, Q3 at 6.6 per cent, and Q4 at 6.3 per cent." Announcing the monetary policy Governor also announced that the MPC has decided to reduce the policy repo rate under by 50 basis points to 5.5 per cent. He said, "The reduction recommended by the MPC is for 50 basis points to 5.5 per cent. This is with an immediate effect". The RBI Governor also mentioned that the reason for repo cut is that the inflation softened, near-term and medium-term alignment is within the RBI range, and food inflation remains soft.

India: FADA reports 5% YoY growth of auto sales in May 2025

New Delhi: The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) on Friday released vehicle retail data for May, which revealed a modest rise of 5 per cent as compared to the same month last year. Segment-wise, two-wheeler was the best category, which performed, registering a rise of 7.3 per cent on a year-on-year basis, followed by three-wheeler (rise of 6.2 per cent), and the tractor segment registered a gain of 2.7 per cent on yoy basis. On the flip side, the Passenger Vehicle segment, Construction Equipment, and Commercial Vehicle declined by 3.1 per cent, 6.3 per cent, and 3.7 per cent, respectively. According to FADA, robust semi-urban/rural demand driven by auspicious marriage dates, strong Rabi harvest, and pre-monsoon pull helped the two-wheeler segment to register a year-on-year rise. On the other side, financing constraints in the economy segment cap upside, which led to a decline of nearly 2 per cent in the segment. The passenger vehicle segment suffered a decline, on "Elevated inventory days and subdued consumer sentiment--particularly in entry-level models--compounded by war-related tensions for border-state (J&K, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat) and margin-money challenges; healthy bookings offset by weak retail conversions," FADA said. "Although bookings remained fairly healthy, retail conversions lagged on margin-money challenges and deferred decisions. OEMs must adopt a cautious, ground-reality-aligned approach to production planning and channel," said FADA President Mr. C S Vigneshwar. Additionally, "Muted freight cycles and tight liquidity weigh on truck and passenger-carrier demand; bus sales provide limited relief, while wholesales accelerate into June '25 A/C-cabin regulations," caused a deceleration in the commercial vehicle segment. However, FADA projects that global supply-chain headwinds (rare-earth constraints in EV components, geopolitical tensions) may limit urban consumer sentiment and exert cost pressure.

GAIL successfully berths first LNG vessel at Dabhol terminal after breakwater project completion

Dabhol (Maharashtra): GAIL successfully berthed the first LNG vessel at Dabhol terminal. The vessel, GAIL Bhuwan, was received on June 2, 2025, by Sandeep Kumar Gupta, Chairman & Managing Director, and Sanjay Kumar, Director (Marketing), GAIL, marking the commencement of uninterrupted, round-the-year operations at the terminal. With the commissioning of the breakwater after receipt of all statutory approvals, Dabhol LNG Terminal has now been designated an all-weather port, which is a critical transformation that ensures safe and reliable LNG operations even during the Southwest monsoon, traditionally a challenging period for marine logistics on India's West coast. Strategically located on the Maharashtra coastline, the Dabhol LNG Terminal has a regasification capacity of 5.0 MMTPA and serves as a vital link in India's gas supply network via the Dabhol-Bangalore and Dabhol-Panvel cross-country pipelines. Dabhol is an island breakwater (unlike conventional land-connected structures) showcasing a feat of advanced marine engineering. This ambitious project, involving extensive collaboration among multiple stakeholders, posed complex technical challenges and required innovative, customised solutions. The successful commissioning of the breakwater is expected to significantly enhance vessel accessibility and improve capacity utilisation at the terminal, bolstering energy infrastructure and supply reliability. This achievement comes at a crucial time as GAIL looks to expand the terminal's capacity from 5.0 MMTPA to 6.3 MMTPA in the first phase over the next three years.
