Colleen Bready's Forecast: Smoke lingers in Manitoba

Colleen Bready has your current conditions and updated weather forecast for June 3, 2025. Colleen Bready has your current conditions and updated weather forecast for June 3, 2025. As wildfires burn, smoke continues to spread and fluctuate in Manitoba and northwestern Ontario Tuesday. An air quality warning issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada remains in effect in parts of southeastern, central and northwestern Manitoba, and in Ontario. A special air quality statement also continues for areas along the periphery of the warned regions that are further from the wildfires. The weather agency said air quality and visibility from smoke can vary and fluctuate from hour to hour. Most of the south is expected to be hazy Tuesday, but not under either air quality alert. However, smoke could be detected in downtown Winnipeg. Firefighters will be contending with strong and gusting northwest winds across Manitoba Tuesday, including in wildfire areas in the southeast, northwest, and north-central regions. Daytime highs in much of the north Tuesday are expected to reach the mid to upper teens, while southern areas will climb into the low 20s. Rain and drizzle are falling Tuesday in regions furthest north, including Tadoule Lake and Churchill. There is a good chance much-needed showers will reach a wildfire burning around Lynn Lake Tuesday afternoon and night. The community is also only expected to reach a cool afternoon high of 9 C. The next meaningful chance of showers in southern Manitoba, including Winnipeg, is on Saturday.

ECCC retracts Sask. tornado confirmation from May

Environment and Climate Change Canada logo can be seen in this file image. Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) says it is retracting confirmation of a tornado reported near Maple Creek, Sask. on May 18. After initial confirmation, the tornado would have been Saskatchewan's first of 2025. 'New evidence has been shared with ECCC that refutes the initial tornado report. While a thunderstorm was present in the area at the time of the report, ECCC does not have sufficient evidence to confirm a tornado at this time,' the weather office said Tuesday on its website. ECCC says it will continue to investigate the weather event.
