Phil Salt to miss upcoming T20I series against West Indies due to paternity leave
London [UK], June 6 (ANI): England right-hand batter Phil Salt is set to miss the upcoming T20I series against West Indies on paternity leave, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.
During the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Salt went back home after the Qualifier 1 in which his franchise, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) outclassed Punjab Kings (PBKS) in order to enter the final of the tournament. He rejoined the team during the early hours of Tuesday morning, the day on which the final was played.
Finally, after 18 years, it is party time for the Rajat Patidar-led side as a brilliant spell from Krunal Pandya and solid pace bowling from a trio of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Josh Hazlewood, and Yash Dayal brought them their first-ever IPL title with a six-run win over the Punjab-based franchise at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium.
In the final, Salt was able to score only 16 runs off nine balls and finished the season with 403 runs in 13 matches of the competition which came at an average of 33.58 and at a strike rate of 175.98.
After winning the IPL 2025, Salt said as quoted by ESPNcricinfo, 'It's an unbelievable feeling right now. I'll be honest with you, I don't quite know where I am at the minute. I've not had the most sleep, but [I'm] so proud of the boys.' Asked if the baby had brought him luck, he said: 'He did. I've got a lucky charm now. I'm over the moon.'
Earlier on Tuesday, Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced the squads for the three T20 International matches against England from June 6-10 and another three matches against Ireland from June 12 to June 15.
Squad for T20Is against England: Shai Hope (Captain), Johnson Charles, Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph, Brandon King (Vice Captain), Evin Lewis, Gudakesh Motie, Rovman Powell, Andre Russell, Sherfane Rutherford and Romario Shepherd.

With the women's team also ending up as runners-up in successive T20 World Cups, Boucher strongly believes the chokers tag will continue to be associated with them till they don't win a major tournament, though that feeling is different in the WTC. "We're playing for a trophy, so I guess a lot of people are saying no [we can't win], but I think it's a different feel in Test match cricket. It's played over a longer period of time, and you've just got to win big moments in the game as well. Yes, there will be that tag [chokers] that gets thrown our way until we win a trophy." "You're not going to get rid of the tag. Is it deserving of these youngsters coming through? No, it's almost like they're carrying the burden of what happened in previous years, which is always going to be tough on them, but they're the ones in control of their futures at the moment," he added. Boucher signed off by saying that opener Ryan Rickelton and hard-hitting batter Tristan Stubbs hold the key for South Africa in the upcoming WTC final. "Ryan Rickelton has been playing nicely for Mumbai Indians (MI), and he was actually on the tour that we went to England (in 2022) as well. He's actually played quite a few games in England as well, so he'll know the conditions." "And Tristan Stubbs has come back and played a lot of domestic cricket and basically forced his way into the Test side because of the runs that he's got. On paper, Australia will probably feel that they've got a better batting line-up than what we have, but have we got the attitude to go out there and, in a one-off game, just leave it all out there? KSCA officials quit hours after HC shield from arrest
Karnataka State Cricket Association's (KSCA) secretary A Shankar and treasurer ES Jairam have resigned from their posts, owing moral responsibility for the tragic stampede at Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium here on Wednesday, hours after the Karnataka High Court granted them protection from police arrests. In a letter to KSCA president Raghuram Bhat, they said they wished to own moral responsibility though their role was very limited. The stampede and congestion near the stadium led to the death of 11 cricket fans and injuries to scores of others. The resignations followed the state government launching a crackdown on the agencies involved in organising the felicitation events at the Chinnaswamy stadium after Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) won the Indian Premier League (IPL) title for the first time. On Thursday, chief minister Siddaramaiah ordered the arrest of senior executives of RCB, KSCA and event manager DNA Entertainment Network. Shankar and Jairam, along with Bhat, moved the High Court on Friday after the police charged the three organisations with culpable homicide not amounting to murder and other sections under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. In their petition, the KSCA office bearers said the association was only a governing body of cricket in Karnataka with affiliation to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). It has nothing to do with IPL events and Wednesday's celebrations were organized by RCB franchise and managed by its vendor DNA Entertainment Network, they argued. KSCA's role was limited to making the stadium and its infrastructure available to RCB and DNA. The police, the petitioners alleged, registered the FIR against them under intense pressure and compelling circumstances without any preliminary enquiry.

Hockey India extends wishes to Hardik Singh for completing 150 international caps
Amsterdam [Netherlands], June 7 (ANI): Indian men's hockey team vice-captain Hardik Singh reached a significant personal milestone on Saturday, earning his 150th international cap during India's opening match of the European leg of the FIH Pro League 2024-25 against the Netherlands. The 26-year-old midfielder from Jalandhar, Punjab, has been a pillar of consistency and dynamism in India's midfield since his debut at the 2018 Hero Asian Champions Trophy, where India and Pakistan were declared joint winners. Since then, Hardik has become one of the most dependable figures in Indian hockey, representing the nation in nearly every major international tournament. A key architect of India's recent resurgence on the world stage, Hardik played a crucial role in securing the historic Bronze medals at the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympics, as well as the Silver medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
