11-year-old accused of attempted stabbing at WA middle school
The Brief
Snohomish County deputies are investigating an attempted stabbing that happened at Alderwood Middle School Friday afternoon.
An 11-year-old boy is wanted in the crime, with a teacher intervening to stop the assault.
LYNNWOOD, Wash. - Deputies are searching for an 11-year-old boy who allegedly tried to stab a student at a Lynnwood middle school on Friday.
What we know
It happened around 1:30 p.m. at Alderwood Middle School, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office.
A teacher that witnessed the attempted stabbing intervened and prevented the student victim from being injured, deputies said.
The sheriff's office is looking for an 11-year-old boy suspected in the crime. He ran from the scene and has yet to be found.
The 11-year-old suspect formerly attended a school in the Edmonds School District, but has since changed districts.
There is no active threat to students, staff or the school.
This remains an active investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call 911.

Alderwood Middle School families received the following statement from Principal Christy Frary following the incident:
"Dear Alderwood Middle School Families,
"I want to inform you about a serious incident that occurred on our campus after school today.
"At approximately 1:30 pm, an 11-year-old male, a known former Edmonds School District student who now attends school in another school district, came onto our campus and attempted to stab one of our students. Thanks to the quick and courageous actions of a staff member who witnessed the incident and immediately intervened, no students were injured.
"The Snohomish County Sheriff's Department quickly arrived to assist and investigate the incident. The suspect fled the area on foot. The Sheriff's Department is actively investigating the situation. At this time, they have determined there is no active threat to students, staff, or the school. If you or your student have any information related to this incident, please call 911 to relay the information to law enforcement.
"We understand that incidents like this are deeply concerning, and we are grateful for the swift response by our staff and local law enforcement. The safety and well-being of our students remain our highest priority."
According to the Edmonds School District website, Alderwood Middle School students are released at 1:20 p.m. on Fridays. This means the attempted stabbing possibly happened shortly after dismissal, and is likely why the school was not placed on lockdown.

19-year-old hiker rescued near Gold Bar
Rescue teams in Snohomish County responded to a 19-year-old man who had twisted his knee while hiking near Big Eddy in Gold Bar, Sky Valley Fire posted on Facebook. The man had become exhausted and lost near the Skykomish River in the early morning hours on Wednesday. Officials from Sky Valley Fire began searching on the ground and a deputy from the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office deployed a drone to help in the search. The Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) found the hiker signaling for help with a flashlight in thick brush and the drone pilot led crews on the ground to his location, Sky Valley Fire said. Rescue crews set up a rope system to lower the man down to a road below where an ambulance was waiting to take him to the hospital.

Snohomish County, WA deputies seek help in Lynnwood drive-by shooting
The Brief The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office is seeking help identifying suspects in a drive-by shooting incident in Lynnwood. Deputies say two white men in a black sedan shot at a Hispanic man's truck after leaving LA Fitness. Tips can be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers, and a cash reward is available if the tip leads to an arrest. LYNNWOOD, Wash. - Snohomish County Sheriff's deputies are asking for your help to identify the suspects who shot at a man's truck after he left the LA Fitness Gym on Mukilteo Speedway in Lynnwood. What we know The victim is Hispanic. The suspects are two white men driving an older black lowered sedan, possibly a Honda Accord-style race car with tinted windows. It happened on May 5 after he saw four vehicles pull into the parking lot of the gym and start doing donuts. The victim says the gym's surveillance cameras were not working. He had no interaction with them, but a black sedan followed his truck as he drove home, pulled up alongside him, and the passenger started shooting. "When I looked to the side, they pulled the window down and they pointed a gun at me but they didn't say nothing, so I got scared and kept driving my truck to my sister's house. I called her but she didn't answer. I called the police and they picked up, and then at the light they shot at me and they broke the passenger seats and I got scared. I wondered who these people are," said the victim, who did not want to be identified for his safety.
