LaSalle, Ont. siblings squeeze the day for charity
A pair of LaSalle, Ont. siblings manned arguably the busiest lemonade stand in town on Saturday to help support animals in need of a new home.
As each customer approached, Leah Whited, 7, filled the cup with ice, and her brother Lindon, 11, poured in the lemonade.
Along with sales of books and cookies, the siblings raised $500 for the Windsor/Essex County Humane Society.
'Leah has been asking for a long time for a lemonade stand. So, we decided to do a lemonade stand with cookies and books, and we decided that all the money is going to go to the Humane Society,' explained Lindon.
To prepare for the day, Leah said they painted, made signs and, of course, lemonade.
When asked why selling the ice-cold beverage was so important, she promptly responded, 'To help the animals.'
Among the many visitors in attendance were members of the LaSalle Fire Service, who arrived in a firetruck.

'All the money we're helping everyone when we donate, we're helping the animals. I know Leah really likes to help the animals because she loves them,' said Lindon.
Next week, Lindon and Leah plan to hand-deliver the proceeds to the Humane Society. After squeezing out strong results in their first attempt, the siblings are planning to continue their efforts next summer with another stand.

Crews respond to apartment fire near Campus Saint-Jean
Edmonton fire crews responded to an apartment fire in Bonnie Doon around 2 p.m. on Aug. 6, 2026. (CTV News Edmonton/Sean McClune) Edmonton Fire Rescue Services (EFRS) responded to a residential fire near 87 Avenue and 91 Street Wednesday afternoon. EFRS said crews arrived on the scene at 2 p.m. and were able to get the top-floor apartment blaze under control at 2:32 p.m. All residents were able to evacuate safely with their pets and no rescues were required. There have been no reported injuries. Michael Maclean lives in the suite next door to the one that caught fire. 'We heard a bunch of popping and I heard people down below screaming 'fire,'' Maclean told CTV News Edmonton. 'I looked outside and saw smoke and fire next door so I grabbed the cats, grabbed my girlfriend and away we went.' The neighbouring daycare was also evacuated because of the fire. There were 21 children in the building at the time, taking a nap. One worker from the daycare told CTV News Edmonton that community members came to help out and bring snacks to the kids. 'Everybody's accounted for that was in the daycare, which was number one priority,' said Wilson. 'The guys did a fantastic job … and they got up there very fast.' Small plane hits fence and flips, leaving one seriously injured in rural Alberta

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada says the two-seater was flying Tuesday from Wetaskiwin to Linden, a town about 100 kilometres northeast of Calgary. The agency says the plane was approaching the rural airstrip when its fixed landing gear hit a fence and flipped. RCMP say two 82-year-old men were on board. They say one was airlifted to hospital in serious condition and the other was taken by ground ambulance with minor injuries.
