Next three editions of World Test Championship Final will be held in England, confirm ICC

Indian Express20-07-2025
Despite India's reported interest, the title clashes for the next three editions of the World Test Championship (WTC) will continue to be played in England, the International Cricket Committee (ICC) confirmed on Sunday.
It was one of the outcomes of the Annual General Meeting of the ICC that was held in Singapore. A statement released by ICC said that the Board 'confirmed the awarding of hosting rights for the ICC World Test Championship Finals for the 2027, 2029, and 2031 editions to the England and Wales Cricket Board, following a successful track record in hosting recent finals.' So far, all three editions of the WTC Finals have been held in England. The first two finals were held at The Rose Bowl in Southampton (New Zealand beat India) and The Oval in London (Australia beat India) respectively.
According to a PTI report in May, the BCCI was contemplating hosting the WTC final of the 2025-2027 cycle in India and that discussions regarding the same were held during the ICC's chief executives committee in Zimbabwe earlier this year. The South Africa vs Australia clash this year – the third WTC final and the first not featuring India – was held in front of packed stands at the Lord's Cricket Ground as the Proteas men ended their major ICC trophy drought.
'Lord's is a place synonymous with Test cricket and this was a match fitting of both the occasion and the venue,' ICC Chair Jay Shah had said in a statement shortly after South Africa's triumph. 'This was the third instalment of the ICC World Test Championship Final, the first at Lord's, and those involved in preparing the playing surfaces, delivering the match and hosting the teams and supporters should be very proud of the show they helped put on.'
The ICC also said that the Board received an update on progress relating to the support for displaced women cricketers of Afghan descent. 'This initiative is being advanced through a collaborative effort led by the ICC, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), and Cricket Australia (CA), under the supervision of ICC Deputy Chair Mr Imran Khwaja. The programme aims to deliver structured support through high-performance initiatives, domestic playing opportunities, and engagement at key ICC global events, including the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 in India and the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 in England,' the statement added.
Two new members joined the ICC family to take the total membership to 110 members with Timor-Leste Cricket Federation and Zambia Cricket Union formally becoming ICC Associate members.

We know we can beat India: England womens coach Charlotte Edwards

London, Aug 15 (PTI) Former England women's cricket team captain Charlotte Edwards believes the side is preparing in earnest for the upcoming ODI World Cup despite suffering back-to-back reverses against India in the recently-concluded multi-format series at home. Edwards, one of the most successful England captains who led her side to a grand double in ICC events in 2009 by winning the 50-over and T20 World Cups, is currently the coach of the national side, and feels her team can beat any opposition in the world. 'We were massively challenged (against India) and that's how we want women's cricket to be," Edwards was quoted as saying on the BBC Stumped podcast. India Women, under Harmanpreet Kaur, had achieved historic success in the recently-concluded multi-format series in England, defeating the home team in both the T20I and ODI series for the first time. India's path-breaking win was widely celebrated with experts predicting Harmanpreet's side could break the jinx of not winning a World Cup trophy in the showpiece event, to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka in September-October this year. 'It wasn't a reality check. We know we can beat India. We are going into a World Cup where we know if we play our best, we can beat any team," said Edwards. Edwards, who has been only six months into the coaching assignment with the national team, added they were working hard to get rid of the tag of being a poor fielding side. 'It is something we are working on, we know we have that tag now. Sometimes I get frustrated because we can drop one catch and we are labelled a bad fielding team, even though we have fielded really well otherwise," opined Edwards. Edwards started off her tenure as England coach with grand success against the West Indies at home by winning all six matches of the white-ball series. But the side was brought down to earth by India a couple of months later, partly due to its poor fielding. 'I am confident we can get to a place where people are talking really positively about our fielding," she said. Edwards also said her captain Nat Sciver-Brunt and spinner Sophie Ecclestone were in 'good shape" ahead of the World Cup. Both the players are currently holding the No.1 spot on the ICC Women's ODI Player Rankings. If Virat Reduces Aggression, He Wont Be Same Player: 2011 WC Winner Shares Blunt Take On Kohlis Changed Version

Former India fast bowler S Sreesanth believes that Virat Kohli's fiery on-field demeanour is a vital part of his success as a cricketer. According to the 2011 World Cup Winner without kohli's aggression he will not be the same player like he used to be. Sharing his take on Kohli's playing style, Sreesanth drew a clear distinction between aggression and passion. Speaking on sports commentator Padamjeet Sehrawat's YouTube channel, Sreesanth said: 'Nothing (on whether he would change anything). What others call aggression, I call it passion. Is Virat Kohli aggressive? No. I think he is obsessed. Virat's aggression, people say, is a lot. I would say if he reduces that aggression, he won't be the same player.' However, their cricketing journeys went in different directions after the triumph. While Kohli made his Test debut in the West Indies series shortly afterward, Sreesanth was not part of that tour. Sreesanth now a cricket turned commentator is usually seen as a broadcaster and analyst on different TV/Digital channels. Kohli's recent on field spat that grabbed headlines was during his last Test series ( Border Gavaskar Series 2024) against Australia. He was caught in a verbal spat with Aussie debutant Sam Konstas. Later Konstas Clarified - "I think the emotions got to both of us. I didn't quite realise as I was doing my gloves. But, it happens in cricket," Konstas told the broadcaster 7Cricket. Kohli One Format Left Kohli's most recent appearance for India came during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where an unbeaten Indian side clinched the title by defeating New Zealand in the final at the Dubai International Stadium. Earlier this year, Kohli announced his retirement from Test cricket following a disappointing run in the 2024–25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, where he managed just 190 runs in five matches. Before stepping away from the longest format, Kohli had also retired from T20 internationals after India's victory in the T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados, where they beat South Africa in the final to secure their first World Cup title since 2011. Kohli will now be seen in action during India's upcoming ODI series against Australia, starting October 19, 2025.
