Autodesk launches freemium access to Autodesk Flow Studio, with new pricing tiers making world-class VFX AI more affordable to all creators

For the first time, Autodesk is offering free access to professional grade AI-powered VFX and animation tools — removing cost barriers for indie filmmakers, digital content creators, marketers, and first-time users around the world SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 12, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Today at SIGGRAPH 2025, Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) launched new, more affordable pricing for Autodesk Flow Studio (formerly Wonder Studio) including its first free tier and a 50% price drop for the Lite plan – from $20 to $10 – a significant move to make the toolset more accessible. By removing up-front costs so artists can use premium artificial intelligence (AI) powered 3D tools to create the kind of animation and VFX once reserved for Hollywood, Autodesk is signaling a new era of AI within the future of media and entertainment – one that puts creators at the forefront. This launch marks a major milestone just one year after the Autodesk acquisition of Wonder Dynamics, the company that created the technology. Autodesk Flow Studio uses AI to automate complex VFX tasks like motion capture, camera tracking, and character animation, so creators can focus on storytelling, not technical setup. With just a video clip and a few clicks, users can insert CG characters into live-action scenes and render them making 3D animation and VFX accessible to all. You can also export the AI-generated assets (e.g. clean plates, 3D scenes, alpha masks, camera-tracks) to tools like Maya, Blender, or Unreal Engine for editing and fine tuning. This allows creators to speed up complex animation and VFX workflows, freeing up time for more creative storytelling. By making these capabilities freely available, Autodesk is lowering the barrier to entry for high-quality content creation enabling more artists, marketers and digital content creators to experiment, learn, and bring their ideas to life on their own terms. "Making Autodesk Flow Studio more accessible to everyone reflects our belief in a creator-first future – where AI empowers more artistic expression, not replaces it," said Diana Colella, executive vice president of Media & Entertainment at Autodesk. "By lowering the cost barrier, more storytellers are now able to explore the ways new AI-powered tools can help them bring their ideas to life, regardless of where they are along their creative journey." This expansion introduces a tiered model designed to grow with creators – from first-time users to professional studios. New Free and Standard tiers join the existing Lite, Pro, and Enterprise offerings, giving users more flexibility to choose the plan that fits their creative needs and ambitions. The Free tier includes core tools like AI Mocap and Live Action, while advanced capabilities – such as Wonder Animation and Wonder Tools – remain exclusive to paid tiers. For larger teams and studios, the Enterprise tier offers scalable access to AI-powered workflows with enhanced support and data controls – helping them adopt new technology while preserving the creative processes and roles that define professional production. "Running AI models at scale has traditionally been very challenging for tech startups," said Nikola Todorovic, co-founder of Wonder Dynamics, an Autodesk company. "Our original mission was always to make our technology free and affordable to as many creatives as possible, but we had limited resources as a startup. Now, as part of Autodesk, we're able to offer Flow Studio as a freemium product, powered by robust infrastructure and cloud partners – so more artists can tell more stories, no studio lot or multimillion-dollar budget required." The launch of the Free Tier and flexible pricing model to a global audience also formally completes the integration of Autodesk Flow Studio into the Autodesk ecosystem. This ensures alignment with Autodesk's standard offerings, policies, and processes, granting users a more unified, consistent, and scalable experience. In addition, Autodesk has included the Pro tier of Flow Studio in its Media & Entertainment Collection at no additional cost – giving existing customers a low-risk way to explore AI-powered workflows. This approach reflects Autodesk's commitment to guiding its customers through the evolving landscape of AI in media and entertainment with tools that are accessible, trusted, and built to scale with their creative ambitions. Net loss for the quarter totaled $482 million, largely driven by $591 million in non-cash charges linked to its initial public offering (IPO). Other revenue jumped 252% from a year earlier to $24 million, driven by strong gains in subscription and services revenue as well as transaction revenue. Revenue less distribution costs (RLDC) came in at $251 million, with an RLDC margin of 38%. Adjusted EBITDA increased 52% from a year earlier to $126 million. 'I'm proud of Circle's performance in the second quarter, our first as a public company, where we demonstrated sustained growth and adoption of our platform across a multitude of use cases and with a diverse set of industry-defining partners,' said Jeremy Allaire, co-founder, CEO, and Chairman at Circle. 'Circle's successful IPO in June marked a pivotal moment—not just for our company, but for the broader adoption of stablecoins and the growth of the new internet financial system," he added. USDC in circulation climbed 90% from the prior year to $61.3 billion at the quarter's end, and has grown a further 6.4% to $65.2 billion as of August 10, the company said. GM inks domestic rare earth magnet supply deal with Noveon Magnetics

This story was originally published on Automotive Dive. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily Automotive Dive newsletter. Dive Brief: General Motors has signed a multi-year supply agreement with Texas-based Noveon Magnetics for neodymium magnets (NdFeB magnets) for its full-size trucks and SUVs, according to an Aug. 6 press release. The deal provides GM with a steady supply of rare earth magnets, while also helping to establish a more resilient domestic supply chain and lessen the reliance on imported critical materials. "We're proud to be delivering critical rare earth magnets in support of some of America's most iconic vehicles," said Scott Dunn, CEO of Noveon Magnetics, in the release. "This agreement is a testament to what American manufacturers like GM and Noveon can do to develop supply chains and partnerships right here in the U.S." Dive Insight: Noveon Magnetics has already started production of magnets for GM. The first deliveries began last month. NdFeB magnets, which are primarily composed of neodymium, iron and boron, are considered the strongest type of permanent magnet commercially available. They are used in a wide variety of automotive and industrial applications. The company is supplying GM with sintered magnets, a manufacturing process that results a very strong magnetic field. Once the alloys are ground into a powder, the material is pressed into a mold under high pressure. The sintering process heats the pressed blocks of alloy to temperatures of roughly 1,100°C, which fuses the particles together, forming a dense, solid magnet, according to Noveon. Noveon is currently the only active manufacturer of sintered NdFeB rare earth magnets in the U.S., according to the release. The company intends to scale production as demand for these magnets accelerates across the automotive, energy and industrial sectors. Although NdFeB magnets are used in both electric and internal combustion engine vehicles, they are a key component for the electric motors of EVs and hybrid vehicles. They are also used in regenerative braking systems, electric power steering systems and other EV powertrain components. For ICE vehicles, NdFeB magnets are used for 12-volt electric motors and actuators, such as wiper motors, power door locks, alternators, fan motors and engine control sensors. "Working with domestic manufacturers like Noveon allows us to increase the resiliency of our supply chain while supporting American jobs and strengthening our industry and economic security," said Jeff Morrison, GM global chief procurement officer, in the release. "Noveon's magnets will support our most popular vehicles and help continue to deliver a leading portfolio of choice for our customers." Outside of GM's new supply agreement with Noveon Magnetics, the automaker's venture capital arm participated in a $33 million funding round of Minnesota-based Niron Magnetics in November 2023. Niron is a producer of rare earth-free iron nitride magnets made with inexpensive and abundant iron and nitrogen. These magnets cost around 50% less to produce than rare earth magnets, which in the future could help make EVs more affordable.
