Police arrest man accused of fatal shooting near Our Lady of the Lake Hospital

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A suspect was arrested Thursday morning after a woman was killed in a Wednesday afternoon shooting near Our Lady of the Lake Hospital.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner's Office identified the victim in the shooting as Patricia Jackson, 58. An autopsy will be conducted on Thursday.
The Baton Rouge Police Department said the shooting happened at approximately 3:45 p.m. on March 19 near the 5000 block of Hennessy Boulevard. They confirmed that the shooting victim was an employee.
'Our Lady of the Lake is a beacon of healing for our community and today that sacred space was shattered by a tragic act of violence. We lost a member of our work family, a mother, and a friend to many,' Our Lady of the Lake Health President Charles Spicer Jr. said in a statement.
Roland Domino, 60, was arrested in connection with the shooting. Police said Domino shot Jackson 'multiple times' after a verbal argument in the hospital parking lot.
Domino was apprehended around 7:15 p.m.Wednesday on the Mississippi River Bridge and was charged with second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon.
Police said Domino has a criminal history including forgery, simple burglary, aggravated assault, and simple battery.

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A Baker man pleaded guilty to five counts of human trafficking, the East Baton Rouge District Attorney's office confirmed Wednesday. Sentencing for Kevontae Reed, 29, is scheduled for Sept. 25. Troopers arrested Reed on human trafficking and indecent behavior with a juvenile charges after a March 14, 2024, undercover operation with Homeland Security at a Baton Rouge hotel. According to the Louisiana State Police, a human trafficking victim was rescued. LSP identified Reed as a repeat offender with a history of human trafficking offenses. BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — An East Baton Rouge Parish Prison employee was fired after being accused of abusing her dating partner. Alezsha Evans, 31, was placed on administrative leave on June 8 after an investigation into alleged abuse. During the investigation, detectives learned Evans accused her dating partner of hitting her, which resulted in their arrest. According to an affidavit, Evans allegedly choked and struck the victim with a whip, leaving whelps on their arm and a scratch on their chest after an argument outside of their home on June 1. The victim told detectives that Evans took their glasses off their face and broke them. Investigators said the neighbor's doorbell camera captured the incident, which supported the victim's story and identified Evans. The victim showed detectives photos of their injuries that were dated June 1. Evans was arrested and booked into prison on charges of domestic abuse battery and simple criminal damage to property. The sheriff's office said she was hired to work in corrections on May 28. She was fired after a review of the evidence.
