MR DIY posts record high earnings in first quarter
Despite the ongoing market volatility due to geopolitical tensions and tariff disputes, the group said its financial position remains solid.
The group said it has declared a dividend of RM132.6mil for the first quarter of financial year 2025 (FY25), representing a payout ratio of 76.1% of net profits and a 40% year-on-year (y-o-y) rise.
This reflects the group's confidence in its prospects, it said.
Malaysia's largest home improvement retailer reported a 20.2% y-o-y increase in net profit to RM174.1mil for the first quarter ended March 31, 2025, which is a record high for the group.
Revenue for the quarter grew 10% y-o-y to RM1.26bil which was driven by like-for-like store sales growth and new store openings during the period.
'We are very encouraged by the strong start to FY25, especially in the face of ongoing uncertainties. Our operational improvements are bearing fruit, with meaningful progress reflected in key financial indicators.
'Notably, throughput at our automated warehouse has increased significantly since its launch in August 2024,' chief executive officer Adrian Ong said in a statement.
'While there is still work to be done, we are confident that we are on the right path – driving operational efficiency and delivering long-term sustainable value to our stakeholders,' Ong added.
Gross profit margin improved by two percentage points y-o-y to 47.8% on lower average inventory costs arising from the economies of scale from its global procurement and the strengthening of the ringgit, it said.
As a result, it said gross profit rose 14.9% y-o-y to RM601.2mil.
Looking ahead, Ong said MR DIY is on track to strategically launch 190 new stores across its core and sub-brands in 2025.

Felcra records RM178m profit, with RM101m payout to participants starting today, says Zahid
PASIR SALAK, Aug 17 — Felcra Bhd has recorded a profit of RM178 million for up to April 2025, showing an increase compared to the previous year. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also the Minister of Rural and Regional Development, stated that of this amount, RM101 million will be distributed to 74,300 participants nationwide in stages starting today. 'I congratulate Felcra Bhd for successfully maintaining a strong performance, with an increase of nearly RM2 million compared to the same period last year. I will be monitoring the profit distribution to all participants across the country,' he said at the 2025 First Interim Distributable Profit Declaration Ceremony for Felcra Bhd participant projects held here today. Also present were Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Rubiah Wang and Felcra Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Idris Lasim. In addition, Ahmad Zahid said Felcra Bhd continues to make history in strengthening national food security through the commercialisation of Felcra's MRQ 107 paddy – a local fragrant rice variety that serves as a high-quality alternative to imported fragrant rice. He stated that the Seberang Perak area, covering more than 3,400 hectares and cultivated using modern methods by Felcra, has shown encouraging performance with an average yield reaching eight metric tonnes per hectare annually. 'We expect production to exceed 27,000 metric tonnes of paddy, equivalent to over 16,000 metric tons of rice per year, which can meet the needs of thousands of families. Hopefully, this becomes an example for other paddy farmers,' he said. Meanwhile, Idris said the performance of the first interim distribution for 2025 was influenced by several key factors, including efficient estate management and the implementation of cost-saving measures. 'Through effective approaches in the use of fertilisers, pesticides, and farm inputs, operational costs were reduced by 15 per cent, and yield per hectare increased by 49 per cent,' he said. Idris also informed that Felcra's oil palm projects recorded an average net profit increase of 81 per cent. He emphasised that while profit distribution rates are influenced by crude palm oil price trends, improvements in estate performance remain the primary determining factor. — Bernama

Penang offers free homes to 23 Ladang Sungai Kechil families under RMKu
NIBONG TEBAL: The Penang government has resolved a decade-long housing dispute for 23 families in Ladang Sungai Kechil by providing free homes under the Rumah MutiaraKu (RMKu) project. Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow confirmed each family will receive a Type C1 single-storey terrace house measuring 750 square feet. Three temples on the original site will also be rebuilt as part of the agreement. The land acquisition process for 6.146 acres was finalised last year under the Land Acquisition Act 1960. A developer has been selected, with construction expected to begin early next year pending planning approval. Chow announced this after witnessing the signing of the Joint Development Agreement between LPNPP and Sierra Residences (M) Sdn Bhd. Offer letters were also handed to buyers of Residensi Rambai Indah and Harbour View Residence projects during the ceremony. The project will include 85 houses, with priority given to the 23 units for affected residents. The remaining 62 houses will be sold to interested buyers. Residents will not need to relocate during construction due to sufficient buffer land availability. V. Thangaraja, a resident, expressed relief after years of uncertainty over their settlement. He highlighted the emotional struggle as families had lived there for over a century. S. Naris, 36, thanked the state government for its persistent efforts in securing permanent homes for them. The resolution marks a significant step in addressing long-standing housing concerns in the area. - Bernama
