Winners of the 2025 Excellence in Retailing Awards Announced Français
TORONTO, June 3, 2025 /CNW/ - In a time of accelerated transformation and rising consumer expectations, retailers in Canada are proving once again that they don't just adapt—they lead. Retail Council of Canada (RCC) proudly announced the 14 winners of the 2025 Excellence in Retailing Awards (ERA) tonight at the much-anticipated Excellence in Retailing Awards Gala, a highlight moment of RCCSTORE25 Conference in Toronto. The gala evening also saw the presentation of three distinguished Awards of Distinction and fourteen Retail Education Scholarships, spotlighting both seasoned leadership and the next generation of retail talent.
"This year's ERA winners exemplify the bold, purpose-driven spirit that defines retail in Canada today," said Diane J. Brisebois, President and CEO, Retail Council of Canada. This year's Gala also marked a poignant moment of celebration as the industry honoured Diane J. Brisebois for her remarkable 30-year tenure as President & CEO of RCC with an induction into the Canadian Retail Hall of Fame. "Diane's unwavering commitment and tireless leadership have elevated the retail sector to new heights," said Santo Ligotti, Vice President, Marketing and Membership, Retail Council of Canada. "Her legacy will continue to inspire the next generation of retail leaders across the country."

(Cabin Radio) to operate an English-language commercial FM radio station in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. This decision will help Yellowknife residents have better access to local news and community-focused programming, including Indigenous voices while reflecting the realities and priorities of people in the North in our broadcasting system. In February 2025, the CRTC held a two-day public hearing to consider applications to operate a new commercial FM radio station serving the Yellowknife market. Cabin Radio's proposal received strong local support, met the CRTC's requirements for commercial radio, and was found to better enhance competition and the diversity of voices in the Yellowknife radio market. It also included commitments to diversity, emerging artists, and French-language programming. To maintain market stability, the CRTC approved only one new station and denied Vista's application, noting concerns about the financial impact of adding two FM stations — an issue raised by both applicants. Cabin Radio's arrival on the FM band will bring a new voice to Yellowknife's radio landscape and increase programming diversity. Canadian Coast Guard welcomes the CCGS Baie des Chaleurs into service Français

Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy, the Government of Canada has made it a priority to ensure Canada has the vessels we need to continue to deliver these critical services to Canadians. Today, the Canadian Coast Guard officially welcomed CCGS Baie des Chaleurs to its fleet at the Lifeboat Station in Clark's Harbour, Nova Scotia. Jessica Fancy, Member of Parliament for South Shore–St. Margarets, alongside vessel sponsor Rosemarie Patricia LeBlanc, the crew and community members, participated in the traditional breaking of a ceremonial bottle upon the ship's bow. The CCGS Baie des Chaleurs is one of 20 new search and rescue lifeboats that will be dedicated into service by the Canadian Coast Guard across the country. The lifeboats are specifically designed, equipped, and crewed to respond to search and rescue incidents at sea. They can operate up to 100 nautical miles from shore, maintain a maximum 30 minute state-of-readiness, and are typically ready to respond the moment an alert is received. The new search and rescue vessels are being stationed across Canada to provide key search and rescue services including searches on the water, response to marine distress calls, as well as assistance to disabled vessels. The CCGS Baie des Chaleurs will operate throughout the Atlantic coast as required until the new Grand Passage Lifeboat Station and wharf are complete. It is estimated this work will be completed in 2027. The vessel's home port will be at the new Lifeboat Station and wharf being built in Grand Passage, N.S. to replace the Westport location. The lifeboats are informally referred to as "Bay Class" as each vessel is named after a Canadian bay. These shore-stationed self-righting lifeboats were built to provide key search and rescue services, including: conducting searches on water responding to marine distress calls providing assistance to disabled vessels operating up to 100 nautical miles from shore replacing the Canadian Coast Guard's existing search and rescue vessels Each year, the Canadian Coast Guard responds to over 6,500 calls for marine assistance. On an average day, they coordinate the response to 18 search and rescue incidents, assist 47 people and save 13 lives.
