Linlithgow RFC Male Voice Choir visits Denmark for their first overseas tour post-Covid

Linlithgow RFC Male Voice Choir visited Denmark over the early May holiday weekend and was delighted to be 'back on the road' for their first overseas tour post-Covid.
Bursting with pride in the club and the choir, the Touring Group of 30 choristers and 22 supporters visited the beautiful town of Svendborg to sing with the local Septimuskoret Choir in the Gold Hall of the town's splendid Bergerforemingen Theatre.
This was a return visit, following Septmuskoret's visit to Linlithgow in 2023.
Svendborg and Linlithgow are very similar in that they are both ancient market towns and jewels in the crowns of Funen and West Lothian respectively. The choir was welcomed to Svendborg on the Saturday morning by a local pipe band and a Civic Reception by the town's Mayor.
Choir member and ex Lord Provost Jim Carlin responded to the Mayor's welcome and presented him with a West Lothian plaque and the Meg Wallace print of St Michael's spire.
The Concert on the Sunday was a total sell-out and had been advertised as 'Where Scottish charm meets Danish choral tradition'.
The varied programme of modern, classical, popular and folk songs ensured that this was indeed the case! At the finale, when the joint choirs reached a crescendo at the end of 'You'll never walk alone', the audience response was appreciative, loud and emotional.
Both choir masters were effusive in praise of their singers and Linlithgow RFC's music director Jim McGuigan added: 'My view is that the hard work and preparation we put in prior to events such as this is with two primary objectives in mind: to ensure that choir members enjoy the experience of performing and that the audience is fully entertained by and enjoys the songs that we sing.'
Choir chairman Harry Lynch and his counterpart with Septimuskoret Peter Van Vindsoe agreed that the fantastic atmosphere generated during the farewell song 'Auld Lang Syne' reflected both the climax of an extremely successful concert and the strong bond of friendship between the two choirs.
The final day of the trip was spent sightseeing in 'Wonderful, Wonderful Copenhagen', which all tourers agreed was a superb end to a very successful and truly memorable visit.

Any member of the public or an official body can nominate someone for an honour. UK nationals and citizens of 15 Commonwealth 'realms', of which the King is head of state, are eligible for nomination. People living or working overseas, whose achievements were made in another country or in the UK and have a significant international element, can be nominated too. King's Birthday Honour for book festival founder Alistair Moffat
He has written more than 40 books on Scottish history and is considered one of the most popular Scottish historians. He founded the Borders Book Festival 22 years ago, and is based in Ettrick and Lauderdale in the Borders. The festival has become one of the UK's most highly regarded literary festivals, attracting an international audience, and now draws more than 30,000 visitors who have contributed an estimated £3 million to the local economy. Mr Moffat was also a critical figure in the creation of The Great Tapestry of Scotland in 2010, acting as co-chairman and narrative creator, which tells the history of Scotland in visual panels, similar to the Bayeux Tapestry. Read More The Great Tapestry of Scotland, now installed in its purpose-built museum in Galashiels, in the Borders, has become a major tourist attraction and was visited by the King and Queen in 2023 on its 10th anniversary. It was a collaboration of ideas shared between Mr Moffat, author Sir Alexander McCall-Smith and artist Andrew Crummy and was hand stitched by 1,000 women from across Scotland. The tapestry tells the story of 420 million years of Scottish history, heritage, innovations and culture through its 160 panels. Mr Moffat said: 'It is just a monumental bunch of flowers to get. 'One of the reasons was for starting the Borders Book Festival, which starts on Thursday. 'The announcement will be in the middle of the book festival, which started 22 years ago. 'It has a big, beneficial impact on the region, and it brings in lots of visitors. The MBE has been very well-timed. 'The Great Tapestry of Scotland began 15 years ago, Alexander McCall-Smith rang me to say 'go and look at a tapestry in Edinburgh about Bonnie Prince Charlie'. It had 50 panels, I was astounded at how beautiful it was. 'I started working on the idea of The Great Tapestry of Scotland, it ended up with 150 panels. 'I had always dreamed of doing something like this. 'The King and Queen opened it in 2023, I showed them around. It is telling Scotland's history in pictures, and it was made by women.'
