Willie Mullins to saddle first runner for Britain's King and Queen at Leopardstown
Former Michael Stoute inmate Reaching High will make his debut for the Closutton handler in the Leopardstown Lady Riders Handicap that concludes the action at the Dublin track, with the reigning British and Irish champion delighted to have been added to the royal roster of trainers.
Mullins told The Irish Field: 'We were introduced to King Charles and Queen Camilla at Royal Ascot last year. The next thing, we got a phone call asking if we would take a horse for them. I said I would be delighted and Reaching High arrived here shortly afterwards.'
Reaching High won one of his eight starts for Stoute and will be partnered by Jody Townend – sister of Mullins' number one Paul Townend – as he bids to tee-up a trip to Royal Ascot next month for the Ascot Stakes.
'We have schooled him over hurdles and had hoped to get a run into him over jumps recently but it didn't work out,' continued Mullins.
'The plan now is to run him in a lady riders' race at Leopardstown on Friday night. Jody Townend will ride him and, looking further ahead, he could be a contender for the Ascot Stakes over two and a half miles on the opening day of Royal Ascot.
'His pedigree is all stamina, so those kind of races could suit him.'

Leinster pair Garry Ringrose and Josh van der Flier passed fit for URC final
Josh van der Flier and Garry Ringrose have overcome injuries to take their place in the Leinster team for Saturday's BKT URC final against Bulls. However, the game comes too soon for fellow British and Irish Lions duo Tadhg Furlong and Hugo Keenan, who miss out on the Croke Park showdown (Saturday 5pm) with calf issues. Ireland flanker Van der Flier suffered a hamstring injury in the quarter-final against Scarlets, while centre Ringrose has recovered from a calf injury. They are the only changes to the side that beat Glasgow in the semi-final. Thursday sees the beginning of the 2025 US Open as Shane Lowry looks to add to his 2019 Open Championship to double his major tally. We are moments away from the action in Oakmont Country Club as the final preparations are being made. Lowry tees off this morning after a decent showing in the Canadian Open last week, which is seen as a curtain-raiser for this tournament. He tees off at 12:40PM Irish time today, and will have a 6:25PM tee time on Friday. His group includes his long-time friend Rory McIlroy, as well as England's Justin Rose. Speaking in the runup to the US Open, the Offaly man said that seeing McIlroy claim the Masters title meant a lot to him, and lit a spark to claim glory for himself in the future. He said: "I have never been more jealous, or more happy, of anyone in my whole life of watching what Rory did at the Masters. "I think it's incredible - for everyone, for him, for Irish golf, for everyone around him. It just puts fire in my belly to kick on and be better than I have been.
