Couple adds new furry family member on their wedding day
HSPPR shared the story of a couple who had been searching for the right dog for a long time. They were looking for not just any dog, but the one who would feel like a missing piece of their home.
The couple found a cute little Husky pup on HSPPR's website, and something clicked. The Husky wasn't available for adoption yet, so the couple placed a hold on her, where the adopters agree to pick up their pet the very day they become available, or the chance to adopt opens up to others, in order to give every animal the best shot at finding a home.
So the couple placed the hold and started to wait. Fortunately for the couple, soon their lives and hers were about to align. A few days later, HSPPR called the couple and told them the good news: their puppy would be ready for adoption on May 5, there was just one slight problem: the couple's wedding was that day.
The couple had a choice: continue with their perfectly planned wedding day or take a small detour to make room for the little life they had already fallen in love with from afar. So, on May 5, in Downtown Colorado Springs, the couple said their vows in the courthouse, celebrated briefly with loved ones at Garden of the Gods, then, still dressed in wedding attire, headed to the shelter to pick up their new family member.
HSPPR said the moment the bride held their new puppy, she knew it was meant to be. The puppy, who the couple named Talkeetna, reminded the bride of their beloved senior husky. Talkeetna curled up in her arms and drifted off to sleep, as if she had been waiting for this moment all along.
The couple went home with a marriage certificate and a puppy–the bride sharing their story in the hope that it would inspire others to adopt and make room in their hearts and homes.
HSPPR said the fact that this couple could pause one of the most meaningful days of their lives to welcome a homeless pup into their family is a beautiful reminder of how much love we're capable of when we simply choose to make a little time and space for it.
'Right now, countless dogs are waiting in shelters, quietly hoping for someone to notice them, to believe they're worth loving, and to give them the life they've been longing for,' wrote HSPPR. 'If this couple could open their hearts on their wedding day, maybe today is the day you open yours. Just a little time. A little space. And a whole lot of love for a dog who needs you more than you know.'

Crews battle huge fire in North Las Vegas; 1 person injured
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A massive fire in North Las Vegas on Tuesday morning raged at a site where apartments are under construction. The black smoke could be seen from around the valley. More than one building was involved in the fire, according to Kathleen Richards, North Las Vegas communications manager. A construction worker was injured in the fire. He was transported to University Medical Center with burn injuries, and a second person is being evaluated at the scene, Richards said. The fire was reported around 7 a.m. at 6500 N. Fifth Street, near Centennial Parkway in what appears to be an apartment complex under construction. Northbound 5th Avenue is currently closed to traffic at Centennial Parkway. Foley National Guard members to deploy to Egypt
FOLEY, Ala. (WKRG) — Several members of a National Guard unit based out of Foley are preparing to deploy to the Middle East. Approximately 200 soldiers will deploy under the 1st Battalion of the 173rd Infantry Regiment. In Foley, about 85 members of C company prepared their gear and packed their bags on Saturday. They're heading to Egypt in a month. During the year-long deployment, an Alabama National Guard spokesperson says members of the 1-173rd will support 'Multinational Force and Observers – Task Force Sinai.' Their job is to help maintain the peace treaty between Egypt and Israel. Some family members came to support their relatives headed to a long deployment. 'Nervous but happy at the same time, I feel he's doing something good for his country,' one Foley Guardsman's parent, Justin Thicklin said. A spokesperson says these soldiers leave behind their civilian lives and careers for a time to help support the U.S. mission overseas. Carlsbad Caverns officials uncover historic cave trash
CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE) – Carlsbad Caverns say they keep finding trash from decades ago, when they first opened to the public in 1923. Cavern officials say even though they find more and more modern-day trash, sometimes they stumble across historic trash like a Coca-Cola bottle that made it to the top of a rock far off the main corridor trail. What is guano and why was it a hot commodity in Carlsbad? Officials say the shape of this type of bottle is called a 'hobble-skirt,' which Coca-Cola started using in the year 1915. The bottle has the word 'Carlsbad' embossed at the bottom of the bottle, meaning this bottle was fabricated near the cave. This is not the first run-in with trash cavern staff have come across. In September 2024, an empty bag of Cheetos caused an uproar. Cavern officials say this small piece of trash has a big impact on the cavern; it can become a host for algae and mold.
