Fahmi working to secure temporary housing for Pantai Dalam PPR fire victims
The Communications Minister said the matter was discussed with Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa and Kuala Lumpur mayor, Datuk Seri Dr Maimunah Mohd Sharif on Saturday (Aug 9).
"There are 14 families currently at the relief centre. Several other families have chosen to stay with their relatives. We are waiting for the relocation… at least there are more comfortable places for them.
"I have yet to receive the latest information but for families with schoolgoing children, we have worked with the Social Welfare Department, the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council to ensure they have equipment, uniforms and such," he told the media after attending the Daughter of Penang, Daughter of Palestine programme at the Chow Kit Hotel here Monday (Aug 11), which was also attended by Human Resources Minister Steven Sim.
Fourteen squatter houses and four shop premises were destroyed in the fire that occurred on the night of Aug 8 and the victims are currently housed at the relief centre at SRA Al-Khawarizmi. - Bernama

She was responding to a question from Roy Angau Gingkoi (GPS-Lubok Antu) on whether the MKN had plans to develop a border security road alignment along the Sarawak-Kalimantan border, to strengthen security control in the area. Fahmi pushes for Kampung Kerinchi residents' priority in housing ownership
KUALA LUMPUR: Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has called for priority housing ownership for original Kampung Kerinchi residents in projects like Residensi Wilayah and Residensi MADANI. Fahmi, who is also Lembah Pantai MP, suggested allocating 50 to 60 per cent of homes to second and third-generation residents displaced by rising costs. 'Many children from this area, including Persatuan Waris Kerinchi members, now live elsewhere, and this policy aims to bring them back,' he said after launching the Kampung Kerinchi landmark near KL Gateway Mall. The initiative is part of broader efforts to preserve the area's historical identity amid rapid urbanisation. Fahmi noted the landmark unveiling continues work started during his first term as MP. 'We plan another landmark at the village's second entrance and are discussing with DBKL to officially gazette Kampung Kerinchi,' he added. He urged collaboration between local firms like Touch 'n Go Digital and the community to create training and job opportunities for residents. Fahmi clarified that nearby developments like Bangsar South and Pantai Hillpark remain within Kampung Kerinchi's boundaries, ensuring locals benefit economically. Persatuan Waris Kerinchi chairman Baharuddin Hasan, 74, welcomed the landmark as a long-awaited tribute to the area's heritage. Fahmi Wants Original Residents To Get Priority In Owning Houses In Kampung Kerinchi
GENERAL KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 (Bernama) – Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil wants the ownership of units in any housing project including Residensi Wilayah and Residensi MADANI in the Kampung Kerinchi to prioritise buyers from Kerinchi residents. Fahmi who is also the Lembah Pantai Member of Parliament, proposed that 50 to 60 per cent of home ownership should be given to the children of Kampung Kerinchi, especially the second and third generations who are now forced to live outside the area. 'Many children from this area, including members of Persatuan Waris Kerinchi, are now living outside so we hope that through this policy, they will be able to return and resettle in their original area,' he told reporters after officiating the Kampung Kerinchi landmark in front of KL Gateway Mall, today. Fahmi said the home ownership priority policy was among several measures designed to uphold the identity and history of Kampung Kerinchi. Regarding the launching of Kampung Kerinchi landmark, Fahmi said it was a continuation of efforts that had been initiated since his first term as Lembah Pantai Member of Parliament. "My efforts do not stop here. We plan to build another landmark at the other entrance of Kampung Kerinchi and are in discussions with DBKL (Kuala Lumpur City Hall) to officially gazette this area as Kampung Kerinchi," he said.
