India Gazette6 days ago

Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], May 30 (ANI): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Enforcement Directorate Deputy Director Chintan Raghuvanshi (IRS) in Bhubaneswar on charges of corruption.
According to sources, Raghuvanshi was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting the first instalment of a bribe amounting to Rs 20 lakh. The CBI had laid a trap following a complaint and apprehended him at the scene.
Investigations revealed that the bribe demand was part of a larger sum initially pegged at Rs 5 crore, which was later negotiated and settled for Rs 2 crore. The illegal gratification was reportedly sought in exchange for 'settling' a case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
CBI further stated that the bribe was routed through Raghuvanshi's brother. The CBI has initiated further inquiry into the matter.
In a separate incident, earlier, Odisha Vigilance intercepted Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) Pabitra Mohan Panigrahi of Chitrakonda Block in Malkangiri district and seized cash exceeding Rs 15 lakh, suspected to be ill-got.
Acting on credible intelligence inputs about alleged bribe collection from contractors, a team of Odisha Vigilance officials intercepted Panigrahi near Gobindapally Chowk while he was travelling from his government residence in Chitrakonda to Bhubaneswar in a WagonR car bearing registration number OD-30-E-3096. He was reportedly taking a lift at the time.
Upon interception, officials recovered Rs 5.07 lakh in cash from Panigrahi's possession. A further search at his government quarters in Chitrakonda led to the recovery of Rs 10 lakh more in cash. As Panigrahi failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the seized amount, the entire cash was confiscated by the Vigilance team.
Subsequently, searches are underway at two additional premises linked to Panigrahi from a disproportionate assets (DA) angle. He is currently being questioned to determine the source of the recovered funds.
Further investigation is in progress, and a detailed report is awaited. (ANI)

Cops demolish house of notorious drug smuggler in Mohali

1 2 Panchkula: The police on Wednesday demolished an illegally constructed house belonging to a habitual drug smuggler in Chatauli Kalan village as part of the ongoing state-wide anti-drug campaign 'Yudh Nasheya Virudh'. The house, valued at approximately Rs 25 lakh and built on panchayat land, belonged to Dilpreet Singh, a repeat offender currently in judicial custody. He is involved in six criminal cases, including four under the NDPS Act, registered in Ropar and Mohali. Among these is a serious case registered at Sadar Kurali police station in 2022, involving the seizure of 445 grams of heroin. The demolition drive was jointly conducted by the Mohali Police and the rural development and panchayat department. It was led by DSP Mullanpur Mohit Aggarwal and SHO Sadar Kurali Gauravbans Singh, under the supervision of SSP Mohali Harmandeep Singh Hans. DSP Aggarwal said that illegal encroachment by the accused on government land behind the property was also halted. "This action sends a clear message to those profiting from the drug trade. The Punjab government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy," he said. Police have also initiated proceedings under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act, resulting in the attachment and freezing of two vehicles and one property identified as proceeds of drug trafficking. "Strong legal and financial action is being taken to break the backbone of drug networks," DSP Aggarwal said. SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans issued a stern warning to drug traffickers, stating that anyone found involved in drug-related activities will face severe consequences, including the seizure of illegal property. Local residents, along with sarpanch Gurpreet Singh, welcomed the move and praised the administration's firm stance. "This is a much-needed step and will deter others from engaging in such unlawful activities," the sarpanch said. Naib tehsildar Majri Rajveer Singh Marwah and block panchayat officer Mandeep Singh were also present during the operation. Mullanpur police sub-division has recently arrested 70 persons in connection with 40 FIRs related to narcotics. Several of these offenders have been referred to de-addiction and rehabilitation centres for treatment.

Disabled man in Haryana village raped minors, uploaded videos on pornographic websites: CBI

Hisar: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a common service centre (CSC) operator in a village here for allegedly raping minor girls and uploading their videos to pornographic websites. Somnath (40) lives is disabled, having been unable to walk since birth. He is unmarried. A police official told TOI on Wednesday that a CBI team carried out the action on Tuesday. The CBI later issued a press statement confirming the arrest. Officials did not reveal the number of children targetted by the accused and the charges that have been pressed against him. According to CBI, Somnath had a disturbing interest in child exploitation, actively searching for and collecting abusive material online. He allegedly created his own videos and photos, shared them with friends, and uploaded them to the internet. The investigation began with a case registered against Somnath on May 29. CBI officials conducted a thorough inquiry, interviewing survivors and their families while advising them to keep the investigation confidential to prevent alerting the suspect. The CBI used the International Child Sexual Exploitation (ICSE) database from Interpol to trace images and videos of child sexual abuse material (CSAM), which were also linked to reports from Google's cyber tipline. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trading CFD dengan Teknologi dan Kecepatan Lebih Baik IC Markets Mendaftar Undo After a detailed examination of the evidence with cyber forensic tools, investigators confirmed that pornographic content was produced in Hansi, revealing multiple instances of sexual abuse against minors. CBI Arrests Man For Child Sexual Assault, Exploitation Of Minor Girls

New Delhi: CBI has arrested a man from Hisar, Haryana, in connection with a case of sexual assault and exploitation of minor girls. The accused, identified as Somnath, allegedly raped multiple children and shared child sexual abuse material (CSAM) online, the agency said. CBI detected the instance of child sexual abuse on its own. Until the registration of the case, the survivors or their families had not reported the crimes to any law enforcement agency. The agency detected the objectionable material uploaded by the accused through Interpol's database and corroborated it with the cyber tipline reports generated by Google. "The analysis of the images and videos using cyber forensic tools revealed the location of the incidents as Hisar in Haryana, depicting multiple victims of sexual assault and abuse by the accused," CBI spokesperson Beena Yadav said. The agency proceeded with caution, speaking to the families through counsellors. An FIR was registered, and the accused booked for creating, browsing, collecting, possessing, exchanging and uploading CSAM. The FIR accused Somnath of depicting children in sexual acts in electronic form, besides storing pornographic material involving children. "Searches were conducted by CBI at the residential premises of the accused on June 3, which led to the recovery of incriminating electronic gadgets as well as the identification of multiple victim children who were raped, sexually assaulted, threatened and used for pornographic purposes over the past few years," the spokesperson added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo The accused, who has a physical disability, was arrested the same day and produced in court. In 2019, the agency set up an online Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Prevention/Investigation Unit in New Delhi under its Special Crime Zone. The agency has since launched multiple drives to dismantle international networks and people involved in online child sexual exploitation. Operation Carbon in 2021, Op Megh Chakra in 2022, and, most recently, Op Hawk were conducted as part of its effort of rapid response to online child sexual exploitation cases with international linkages, and to trace accused, suspects and conspirators across international jurisdictions, requiring a globally coordinated law enforcement response. The International Child Sexual Exploitation database has been instrumental in identifying over 42,000 victims and 18,000 abusers worldwide, with India playing a key role. Last month, the agency caught two suspects who were using Discord to exploit minor girls from the US, inducing and intimidating them to share obscene content.
