Florida Highway Patrol troopers are investigating a deadly hit-and-run crash that happened in Osceola County Wednesday morning.
The crash was reported just before 6:30 a.m. on Florida Parkway near Birchwood Circle.
Troopers said a 40-year-old Kissimmee woman was struck by a vehicle while running in the northbound lane of Florida Parkway.
The driver who struck her fled the scene.
Neighbors said the driver leaving shocked them, but the crash didn't.
'It's very dangerous,' said Esther Colon.
Colon and her neighbor, Rebecca Hernandez, said drivers sometimes go 70 mph, despite the speed limit being 30 mph.
'We always run across. Even if we don't see cars, we run,' Colon said. 'Sometimes they pass so fast you don't have time to look or see them. It's very very, very dangerous.'
Their homes are right in front of the fatal crash scene.
'It was really bad this morning,' Hernandez said.
The victim was transported to Osceola Regional Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her name was not released.
Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call 911.

Arrested Osceola County sheriff's co-defendant connected to previous illegal gambling investigations

Thursday marked one week since now-suspended Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez was arrested. He's accused of protecting and expanding a multimillion-dollar illegal gambling operation in Lake and Osceola counties. As of Thursday, Lopez had not posted his $1 million bail and remains in the Lake County Jail while three of his co-defendants were released on bail. Sheldon Wetherholt, 58, is among the three co-defendants who have bailed out. According to state records, Wetherholt managed the Kissimmee-based Eclipse Social Club at the center of the investigation. Channel 9 learned that while Wetherholt doesn't have a criminal history, he was tied to another investigation into illegal casinos in 2022. State records list Wetherholt as the manager of Game X Arcade LLC. Investigators with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's office said the LLC operated multiple illegal casinos. That business eventually shut down in 2023 after court records show the owner, Dhara Bhalodia, was arrested on more than 150 counts related to operating an illegal casino. An arrest document accuses Bhalodia of committing money laundering while 'operating the gaming businesses in plain sight.' Wetherholt was named in Bhalodia's arrest affidavit but never faced any charges in the Palm Beach County case. Click here to download our free news, weather and smart TV apps. Diver helps solve a nearly 20-year-old cold case involving a fellow diver gone missing

A nearly 20-year-old cold case involving a missing diver has been solved in Volusia County with the help of the County's medical examiner, who has expertise in diving. The Volusia County Sheriff's Office says DNA testing from human remains that washed onto New Smyrna Beach in 2007 belong to Robert Martin, a diver who disappeared off ther coast of Ponce Inlet in 2006. It wasn't until 2024 that the remains were submitted for advanced forensic testing under the Missing and Unidentified Human Remains grant program, when any progress was made. Then, in May 2025, a match was made officially linking the remains to Martin who disappeared during a trip to the dive site known as the 'party grounds,' about 20 miles offshore. The Volusia County medical examiner, Dr. James Fulcher, who was a certified diver for over 25 years, used his knowledge and experience to examine Martin's equipment and determined his death to be an accident, and no foul play was involved. 'With my diving background, I could examine the equipment and picture what he likely experienced,' Fulcher said in a news release. 'Based on the condition of the gear and known challenges of the dive site, we were able to pinpoint probable malfunctions and evaluate how his habits may have played a role. That helped us determine this was a tragic accident—not foul play.' According to VCSO, Martin's next of kin was notified. Click here to download our free news, weather and smart TV apps.
