Three, including minor, held for brutal double murder of elderly women in Tenali
GUNTUR: In a significant breakthrough, police arrested three individuals—including a minor—in connection with the brutal double murder of two elderly women in Tenali. The accused have been identified as Peravali Kusuma Kumari (46), Illa Gopi Krishna (25), and a 17-year-old juvenile, Sheikh Abdul Kalam.
The victims, Dasari Rajeshwari (59) and Peta Anjamma (70), were widows living together in a two-storey house on Parimi Road, Mallapadu. On June 19, the accused allegedly entered their home posing as potential tenants and murdered them using a metal rod and a cotton towel. They then fled with cash and gold ornaments.
Crucial CCTV footage monitored remotely by Rajeshwari's daughter in Chennai helped identify the suspects. Tenali Police formed special teams under DSP B Janardhan Rao's supervision and tracked the culprits using both technical inputs and physical evidence, following instructions from Guntur District SP.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime. Notably, Kusuma Kumari was also involved in a previous murder for gold. Police recovered Rs 34,500 in cash, a gold chain, imitation bangles, an auto-rickshaw used in the crime, gloves, shoes, and other evidence.
All three were produced before court on June 23 and remanded to judicial custody. Guntur SP praised CI S Ramesh Babu, SI SK Kareemulla, and their teams for swift and effective investigation.

Wanted Gangster Romil Vohra Injured In Police Encounter At Delhi-Haryana Border
New Delhi: A wanted criminal linked to multiple murders in Haryana and arms cases in Delhi was injured in an encounter with the Delhi Police near the Delhi-Haryana border early Tuesday, an official said. Two Special Cell officers were also injured in the encounter. The official said the criminal Romil Vohra, carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh announced by the Haryana government, is a known shooter of the notorious Kala Rana-Noni Rana gang, he said. "Vohra opened fire on a joint team of the Counter Intelligence Unit of Delhi Police's Special Cell and Haryana Police near Dera Mandi when they attempted to apprehend him around dawn. In retaliatory firing by police, Vohra and two Special Cell officers were injured," a senior police officer added. The injured officers have been identified as Sub-Inspectors Pravin and Rohan, who sustained bullet injuries during the exchange. All three injured have been rushed to a hospital and are currently under medical observation. "A specific input was received from Haryana Police about the presence of wanted gangster Romil Vohra near the Delhi-Haryana border. Acting on the tip-off, a joint checking operation was conducted during the intervening night of June 23 and 24," the officer added. Vohra was identified by an informer, and as the police teams tried to apprehend him, he opened fire. Police said Vohra was a key operative in several high-profile criminal cases, including a recent murder n Kurukshetra and a triple murder case in Yamunanagar. He is also wanted in a case registered under the Arms Act in Delhi. A case under appropriate sections is being registered, and further investigation is underway, including recovery of the firearm used and tracing any accomplices who may have been in the area.

Odisha: Two Dalit men allegedly assaulted, tonsured after being accused of cow smuggling
Two Dalit men in Odisha's Ganjam district were allegedly assaulted and tonsured on Sunday by a group that accused them of cow smuggling, The Indian Express reported on Tuesday. Six persons were detained in connection with the case on Monday, Ganjam Superintendent of Police Suvendu Kumar Patra told PTI. The men, Babula Nayak (54) and Bulu Nayak (42), were transporting two cows and a calf in an auto when they were accosted by a group of 'cow-protectors' in Kharigumma village, the news agency quoted an unidentified police official as saying. The group allegedly accused the men of smuggling cattle and demanded Rs 30,000 from them. When they refused, they were assaulted, forced to crawl, consume grass and drain water, the official added. The group also took the mobile phones of the two men and Rs 700 cash, The Indian Express reported. The police have filed a case based on a complaint by the men who were assaulted, Chandrika Swain, inspector at the Dharakote police station in Ganjam, told The Indian Express.

Online scam: Man loses Rs 24K after ordering Jeera, Pulses; FIR filed
Image credits: iStock UDUPI: A resident of Belapu village in Kaup taluk fell victim to an online scam while trying to purchase household ingredients through a contact found on IndiaMART. In a complaint, Narayana , 53, stated that he planned to buy jeera, Bengal gram, and urad dal for preparing home products. On June 11, his son, Shivadas Rao, searched on Google and found a contact number via the IndiaMART app. He called the number, and a man identifying himself as Shivam Sengar, claiming to be from Sojitra Enterprises, answered the call and convinced them of the legitimacy of the business. Believing him, the complainant placed an order worth Rs 24,000 for 120 kg of jeera, 30 kg of Bengal gram, and 30 kg of urad dal. On the same day, Narayana transferred an advance of Rs 11,000 through Google Pay. On June 12, the accused contacted the complainant's son again and asked for the remaining amount, sending an invoice via WhatsApp. Following this, two more payments of Rs 10,000 and Rs 3,000 were made. However, the accused allegedly failed to deliver the goods and has since switched off his phone. The complainant realised he was cheated. A case was registered at Shirva Police Station under Sections 316(2) and 318(2) of the BNS and Section 66(D) of the IT Act.
