Delhi CM Rekha Gupta praises Lakshmibai Kelkar's contribution to nation on her birth anniversary

India Gazette05-07-2025
New Delhi [India], July 5 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday praised Lakshmibai Kelkar's contribution to the nation on her 120th birth anniversary.
CM Gupta said Kelkar inspired women across India to serve the country with dedication.
She added that through the Sevika Samiti, women are working for society with a strong sense of patriotism and pride. The Delhi CM emphasised that it was a proud moment to remember Kelkar's life and values.
Speaking to the reporters, CM Gupta said, '...The lesson Lakshmibai Kelkar gave to the sisters of the country to show their dedication towards the nation is something every woman in India thanks her for. Through the Sevika Samiti, sisters work for society, the country, and the nation, and they have a sense of patriotism within them. If we truly believe, they have found a path on which they can feel self-satisfaction and pride in their existence. So, on the occasion of her 120th birth anniversary, I extend my best wishes, and we are all fortunate to be present at this program today, recalling her virtuous memories.'
Lakshmibai Kelkar was born on July 5, 1905. She was a pioneering social reformer in the country and founded the Rashtra Sevika Samiti, a women's volunteer group associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
Earlier, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta alleged that the previous government showed no interest in such plantation drives or Delhi's environment and tree plantation was never a priority as she launched the Van Mahotsav 2025, a city-wide tree plantation drive under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Delhi CM also criticised the previous Aam Aadmi Party-led government for not showing sufficient concern for the city's environment.
Addressing the media, she emphasised the initiative's goal to involve every Delhi resident in making the city greener.
Speaking at the launch, CM Gupta said, 'A new chapter is being written in Delhi through Van Mahotsav. This festival, Season 2 of Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam, reflects a shift in mindset. In the past, governments showed no interest in such plantation drives or Delhi's environment. Tree plantation was never a priority.' (ANI)

New Delhi: Chief minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday said that the triumph in the Kargil War showed India's courage, restraint, and dignity. Speaking at an event to commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas , the chief minister said it was a tribute to the valour, discipline, and dedication of the soldiers of the nation. "The triumph in Kargil was a victory of India's courage, restraint, dignity and devotion to the motherland. We pay tribute to the brave martyrs on this auspicious day," said the chief minister. A t a press conference, Goyal highlighted India's recent track record in concluding major trade agreements with developed economies. These include FTAs with Mauritius, Australia, and the four-nation European Free Trade Association (EFTA) bloc — Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein, and Iceland. He also spoke about the recently signed India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), calling it 'very comprehensive,' with 30 chapters. The agreement, signed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's two-day visit to the UK, is aimed at enhancing trade flows and deepening economic cooperation. According to the UK government, India's average tariffs on UK goods will drop from 15% to 3% under the new FTA, potentially boosting bilateral trade to $120 billion by 2030. "The goods and services that India provides to the world have high quality and cost competitiveness," Goyal said. He added that these FTAs underscore India's rising importance on the global economic stage. Regarding the proposed trade pact with the US, Goyal said discussions are progressing fast, with the next round of talks expected in August. As per news agency PTI, the two countries aim to finalise the first tranche of their bilateral trade agreement by fall, targeting a trade volume of $500 billion — more than double the current figure of $191 billion. India is also pressing for reduced tariffs on steel, aluminium, automobiles, and a range of labour-intensive sectors like textiles, gems and jewellery, and chemicals. Goyal emphasised that the government's goal is to 'expand frontiers of India's international trade' and strengthen investor confidence. 'Each [FTA] is getting its requisite attention,' he added, pointing to parallel talks with countries like New Zealand and Chile.

Delhi govt revives corridor redevelopment plan to decongest Outer Ring Road in south Delhi

"In addition to that, the plan is to connect the Modi Mill flyover with the Kalkaji flyover by removing a red light intersection near Okhla Mandi. Currently, Nehru Place and traffic towards Nehru Place are getting mixed with local traffic near Savitri Cinema. "Nehru Place-bound traffic immediately after landing from the Chirag Delhi flyover is split into three parts -- towards Nehru Place, U-turn, and right turn. This causes a slowdown," an official said. Live Events As the project has approvals from the UTTIPEC and the DUAC, the government is actively considering implementing the decongestion plans near Savitri Cinema crossing and Modi Mill intersection, officials added. The Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure (UTTIPEC) approves the design of all the major infrastructure projects in the city. The construction cost of the entire street network and corridor improvement between Modi Mill flyover and Savitri Cinema flyover is estimated to cost Rs 411.97 crore. This stretch on Outer Ring Road provides connectivity to areas like Greater Kailash 2, Sukhdev Vihar, Chittaranjan Park, Kalkaji Temple, Nehru Place, Pamposh Enclave, and adjoining areas. The existing Savitri Cinema flyover was constructed in 2001 with only a single carriageway providing a route from Nehru Place towards IIT Delhi. The PWD also constructed a flyover in a similar manner near Sarai Kale Khan ISBT to decongest traffic last year.
