IND vs ENG 4th Test: 'Shubman Gill gave me complete backing behind the scenes,' says Sai Sudharsan
Divya Deshmukh (Sahil Malhotra/ in Manchester: On a day when India's batters showed grit against England's disciplined attack, Sai Sudharsan credited India's Test captain Shubman Gill for his calm guidance that helped him craft a vital 61 off 151 balls on Day 1 of the fourth Test at Old Trafford. 'After first game, Shubi (Shubman Gill) gave me complete backing behind the scenes. He tells everybody clearly. It's been same Shubi from IPL,' Sudharsan told reporters in the press conference after the day's play on Wednesday. Sudharsan, who replaced Karun Nair in the playing XI, looked composed even on a challenging surface that offered inconsistent bounce and seam movement. 'There was variable bounce, two-paced wicket. Throughout the day, the ball was moving and was doing something off the pitch,' he explained. The young left-hander was candid about his dismissal, a mistimed pull to fine leg. 'I didn't know how I edged it down the leg. England do it quite often for other batters too. I was quite aware coming into this game,' he said. Despite the pressure of a comeback Test, Sudharsan insisted he was focused on playing for the team. 'I am not looking at this as pressure but an opportunity to express myself. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Gold Is Surging in 2025 — Smart Traders Are Already In IC Markets Learn More Undo I wanted to play the situation and do well for the team,' he further said. Rishabh Pant has been taken for scans and further treatment (Images via X/@SahilMalhotra) in Manchester : India suffered a major setback on Day 1 of the 4th Test at Old Trafford as Rishabh Pant was forced to retire hurt after getting hit on the right foot. The wicketkeeper-batter, who was batting confidently on 37 off 48 balls, was injured while trying to play a reverse sweep off Chris Woakes. The injury came soon after the dismissal of captain Shubman Gill. Pant missed the shot completely and the ball struck him hard on the boot. England appealed for LBW, but the on-field umpire gave it not out. UltraEdge confirmed a faint under-edge, saving Pant from being dismissed, but he was clearly in pain after the impact. Pant fell to the ground in discomfort, and medical attention was given as umpires called for drinks. There was swelling and some bleeding on his right foot, and he couldn't stand. He was helped off the field by the physio, and a medical cart was used to take him away. Shubman Gill came to the medical centre to see Rishabh Pant where he was receiving first aid. He was stretchered off, accompanied by fielding coach T Dilip, doctor and physio Yogesh Parmar, and two security staff and left the ground in an ambulance.
