Officials plan for I-84 W closure this weekend for maintenance, graffitti removal
PORTLAND, Ore. () — If you plan on taking Interstate 84 by car or by train this weekend, you might have to change course as the westbound lanes from Interstate-205 and I-5 are set to close for a number of projects. Starting at midnight Saturday until 4 p.m. Sunday, all westbound lanes will be closed for maintenance, everything from graffiti removal to regular street maintenance. ICE arrests another asylum-seeker in Portland Several agencies, including the Oregon Department of Transportation, TriMet, the Portland Bureau of Transportation and the City of Portland will be out along the highway. David House with the Oregon Department of Transportation said this closure may cause a headache, but it's necessary. 'This is also an opportunity for ODOT crews to get to some areas that are difficult to reach safely unless you close the highway so we'll be out there too doing some various maintenance,' House said. A big part of last year's project was graffiti removal, you might remember the endless sight of tags along the walls of the highway. 'We think it's been very successful and it's helped reduce what many travelers considered an eyesore,' House said. KOIN 6 News also caught up with Robert Barrie, owner of Portland Graffiti Removal. He said they'll have crews along the highway taking care of what they can. He also said this year's job isn't nearly as hefty as the . 'When it gets really bad with graffiti, everybody notices,' Barrie said. 'When they have these types of closures, we can jump into those sections without having to worry about traffic and so forth.' Motorcyclist dies after crashing into pickup TriMet is also working on a project along I-84 that will impact MAX travelers. They will be shutting off power at their NE 82nd Avenue MAX line, to put in a new set of stairs to the temporary platform, which is a part of the MAX Improvement Project. ODOT officials said while there is the potential for work to wrap up early, travelers should expect delays until 4 p.m. Sunday. They said to check TripCheck for the latest on delays and closures. The Tesla share price could skyrocket next week!
The Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) share price is quite frankly hard to keep track of. One moment its down near $220, the next it's pushing towards $400. However, next week could be a big week for the company. The stock's valuation hinges not on electric vehicles (EVs), but its potential leadership in the autonomous driving space. As such, Tesla's upcoming robotaxi launch in Austin, Texas, set for 12 June, has reignited debate over the company's sky-high valuation and the potential for dramatic share price swings in the coming week. The move marks Tesla's long-awaited entry into the autonomous ride-hailing market. With rivals like Waymo, Zoox, and Avride already operating in the city's tech-friendly environment, Tesla may be in danger of falling behind. At the heart of any discussion about Tesla — or any stock — is valuation. Tesla's current and forward multiples remain among the highest in the consumer discretionary sector. The company's forward price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio stands at 180.4 times, nearly 1,000% above the sector median of 16.4 times, and even higher than its own five-year average of 115.1 times. The forward price-to-earnings-to-growth (PEG) ratio is 8.6. That's more than four times the sector median — and remember some of these other companies will pay a dividend. This tells us that even with projected earnings growth, the stock is expensive by growth investing standards. Meanwhile the price-to-sales (P/S) and enterprise value-to-EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation) ratios tell a similar story. Tesla's forward P/S is 11.31 (sector median is 0.87), while its forward EV-to-EBITDA is 76.58 (sector median: 9.73). These metrics indicate Tesla is valued not just as a carmaker, but as a tech company with enormous anticipated future profits. The market's optimism, or overoptimism, is rooted in the robotaxi story. Tesla aims to dominate in the sector by quickly scaling its robotaxi operations globally. In theory, it's a high-margin business with strong recurring revenues. This would fundamentally alter the company's earnings profile. However, this optimism is highly speculative and contingent on overcoming significant technical, regulatory, and competitive hurdles. And that's why it's so important that Tesla impresses with its launch next week. There's also the Optimus robot. This is Tesla's humanoid robot, which like the robotaxi venture, is built around developments in artificial intelligence (AI). Optimus could also be game changing. Despite the possibilities, Tesla's valuation leaves little margin for error. And this risk is compounded by the competitive landscape in Austin. Waymo, especially, already established a presence, and its technology relies on different approaches — such as lidar and radar — compared to Tesla's camera-based system. And while Elon Musk touts Tesla's approach as more scalable and cost-effective, the company has a history of missing self-imposed deadlines on autonomy, which could test investor patience if the rollout stumbles. Personally, I want to see Tesla do well. I want companies to succeed and push the boundaries of technology. However, I believe Tesla's execution risk is considerable and the valuation hard to justify. That's why I'm watching from the sidelines. Oʻahu racetrack gets the green light
HONOLULU (KHON2) — The City and County of Honolulu was given the green light for a racetrack in West Oʻahu. Plans in the works for 2 West Oahu racetracks The former Navy land near Kalaeloa Airport has been a discussion since the late 90s, and officials said the track will start small before eventually expanding. 'It feels like a dream, it's been 26 years,' said long-time race track supporter and enthusiast Li Cobian. Cobian said plans to acquire the land go back to Mayor Jeremy Harris back in 1998. 'If it wasn't for Rick Blangiardi and managing director Mike Formby, this would never have happened, I feel like crying,' Cobian added. On Thursday evening, Mayor Blangiardi told a crowd at his last Town Hall of the year that the Parks and Recreation director received an e-mail earlier in the day that said they had approval to use the land. 'This is something we made a commitment to because there is a big, big interest across the island in auto sports,' he told community members at the town hall. Download the free KHON2 app for iOS or Android to stay informed on the latest news Honolulu is the only county without a race track, which Mayor Blangiardi says results in more drivers speeding on roads and highways. Four-hundred acres were transferred to the city by the National Park Service in June 2024. 'The National Park Service has agreed to let us do an interim use for the 20-acre lot out at Kalaeloa for a motor sports recreation use,' explained Parks Director Laura Thielen. The plan for the track stretches from Coral Sea Road and Independence Road down to Kalaeloa Airport. For now, Thielen says they can build a dirt style track. 'And that can happen concurrent while we go through with a master plan for the overall area,' she explained during the town hall meeting. Cobian says the park service recognizing motor sports as recreation helped move the process along. The city said the racetrack is intended to be an interim facility while it works on developing a master plan for all 400-acres.'Phase 1 is this parcel area which is 22.9 acres,' Cobian showed KHON2 while pointing towards parcels on the Kalaeloa Airport side of the road. 'Phase 2 is this whole area down almost a mile and it's close to 200 acres,' he added while pointing to the opposite side of the road. Nearby residents said they are concerned about noise, traffic and safety as the city says there are many trespassers in the area. Cobian says most are homeless. City crews were seen putting in concrete barriers to block access into parts of the wooded area. 'We got a lot of homeless and they're constantly dumping trash,' Cobian said. 'So the sooner we get out here and break ground and clean everything up, put some fences up, we're going to deter all of that.' Cobian stated it will also prevent fires in the area. The City says it has requested funds in the upcoming fiscal year 2026 budget for the master plan which will include public input. The City and County of Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation said it has allocated $1.8 million in the upcoming budget for consultant services to help develop that Master Plan. DPR said it also appropriated $150,000 for on guard services to reduce illegal activity in the area, and $500,000 in CIP funds to renovate and reopen the bathrooms at the Kalaeloa Campgrounds. The city adds the Master Plan will include robust public input, along with environmental and cultural assessments. The permanent racetrack location and layout will be determined through that Master Plan, and may be in another area near this interim location. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
