MACC grills Tan Sri over alleged sukuk fund misuse
MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the statement was recorded yesterday and concluded at 3pm. Another session is scheduled for today.
Due to health reasons, the questioning took place at the Tan Sri's house in the Klang Valley. To date, MACC has interviewed 52 witnesses, including the Tan Sri and his family members.
A separate raid was also conducted at his residence in Melaka, although no items were seized.
The investigation centres on the suspected misappropriation of sukuk bonds issued to finance the construction of the highway.
On June 3, MACC seized a luxury condominium, a plot of land valued at RM24.5mil, and nine vehicles worth RM7.65mil.
Authorities also froze 14 personal bank accounts with RM4.5mil and eight company accounts holding RM33mil.
In addition, anti-graft officers seized luxury watches worth approximately RM25mil, handbags valued at RM3mil, jewellery and diamonds worth RM6mil, four horses estimated at RM400,000, and premium alcoholic beverages valued at RM3mil.
Azam previously disclosed that between 2016 and 2020, investigations revealed misconduct involving RM1.35bil in approved sukuk funds.
This included false claims totalling RM360mil, RM416mil, and RM50mil through other bank facilities.
'The RM1.67bil highway project also failed to meet its completion schedule. Investigations are now focused on RM12bil in alleged bribes paid to certain parties as an inducement to facilitate the movement of funds out – and back – to the suspect,' Azam said in a June 3 statement, adding that the funds are also believed to have been used for money laundering activities. — Bernama

Year 2 pupil suffers facial fractures in alleged assault by schoolmates

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : A Year 2 pupil at a primary school in Kuala Terengganu sustained a fractured orbital bone and broken nose after allegedly being assaulted by a group of schoolmates on July 30. The incident came to light when the boy returned home at about 4pm with blood and bruises on his face. According to his mother, he was attacked by several pupils who held his arms and punched him in the face until he fell. 'I brought him to a private clinic, where X-rays confirmed the injuries. He was then referred to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu,' Bernama reported her as saying today. The boy, the second of three siblings, underwent surgery this morning to repair the nasal fracture. His mother said this was not the first time that he had been bullied. In June, he suffered an eye injury after being hit with a rock, but no police report was lodged at the time. However, following the latest incident, she said she had decided to take legal action. The mother also said the school met with the parents of the pupils involved on Monday to discuss the matter. Kuala Terengganu police chief Azli Noor confirmed receiving a report, and said a preliminary investigation suggested that the incident stemmed from teasing among the pupils. 'The case has been referred to the school management and the Kuala Terengganu education office for further action,' he said.

Penang police warn against flag-related gathering in Kepala Batas
GEORGE TOWN: Penang police have advised the public against attending a gathering at a Kepala Batas hardware store tomorrow. The store recently went viral on social media for displaying the Jalur Gemilang upside down. Penang Police Chief Datuk Azizee Ismail emphasised the need to ensure public safety and order. He urged patience while awaiting further instructions from the Public Prosecutor's Office. Azizee warned that legal action would be taken against those disrupting peace or violating laws. A viral social media post had earlier invited the public to join the gathering. Azizee confirmed 38 police reports had been filed nationwide regarding the incident. Investigations are ongoing under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. The hardware store owner, Pang Chin Tian, admitted the flag mishap was unintentional. He expressed readiness to face legal consequences for the incident last Saturday. Pang pledged to be more careful when displaying the Jalur Gemilang in the future. - Bernama
