Sports ministry hikes athletes' diet charges, doubles coaches' salaries
Under the revised norms, diet charges for senior sportspersons in national camps have been increased from Rs 690 to Rs 1000 per day per athlete. For juniors, it has been increased from Rs 480 to Rs 850 per day per athlete.
Besides, the ministry has also made a provision for the additional diet allowances for certain sports disciplines where it is felt that the diet charges are not sufficient to meet the energy requirements of the athletes for heavy and middleweight power events endurance, sprints, low weight power events, and skill events. Not only this, a dietary allowance of Rs 10,000 per month to each of the probable group athlete will be paid for non-camp days, so that these athletes are not deprived of proper diet during non-camp days.
In its bid to attract top coaches for various disciplines, the ministry has also decided to hike their salaries by 50 per cent. As per the revision, the chief national coach, who used to receive Rs 5 lakh per month, will now get Rs 7.5 lakh per month. For other coaches, it has been increased from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 3 lakh monthly.

Prayagraj: Nandini, a 20-year-old athlete hailing from the humble slums of Sangam City, is poised to make a splash in the sports world by representing Uttar Pradesh at the esteemed Khelo India Water Sports Festival 2025, competing alongside 400 talented participants from across the country. The festival, being held at the iconic Dal Lake in Jammu & Kashmir from Aug 21-23, will see Nandini showcase her remarkable skills in kayaking and canoeing, bringing pride to her state and inspiring countless others with her determination and talent. The athletes are competing for medals in rowing, canoeing and kayaking, and as many as 24 gold medals will be at stake over the next three days. Nandini's journey is one of determination and pride. Born to a humble family living in a small hut in the Parade slum area, her father works as a trolley puller, and her mother is a domestic help. Despite their financial struggles, Nandini's hard work has brought immense joy to her parents. Despite facing challenges, Nandini has consistently worked hard, passing her high school exam in 2022 with 61% and intermediate with 62% in 2024. Currently, she's pursuing her first year of BA from Chandigarh University. Now, she's taken another giant leap by qualifying and participating in the prestigious Khelo India Water Sports Games. After excelling in the UP Board exams, she was selected for her outstanding performance in the recent Kayak and Canoe Championship held in Bhopal and other states. Nandini's remarkable journey began six years ago when she joined 'Shruwat – Ek Jyoti Shiksha' — a non-governmental organization dedicated to educating underprivileged girls in the city. Under this initiative, she discovered her passion for water sports and began training. With dedication and hard work, Nandini is now excelling in kayaking and canoeing. Her mentor Abhishek Shukla told TOI: "Despite facing all odds, Nandini did not lose courage and scripted success stories one after another. Living in a small hut in Chugni Parade slums, she took admission in the boat club to learn kayaking and canoeing about three years ago and used to practice for 6 to 8 hours daily." He said Nandini, along with two other girls, was given admission at the boat club about three years ago, and was imparted training in kayaking and canoeing by coach Dhawan Kushwaha. Shukla said, "Nandini is representing the state for the second time in kayaking and canoeing (water sport games). "We have taken care of all three girls after acknowledging their talent in education and sports, and at least Rs 10,000 was spent on a girl's diet every month," he said. For the past four months, Nandini, along with two other talented girls, has been intensively training in Bhopal to pursue her passion for water sports. With a shared dream to bring glory to their humble beginnings, these young athletes are determined to make their slum, city, state, and country proud through their achievements. 11 ISL clubs urge senior lawyers assisting Supreme Court to bring attention to their crisis ahead of AIFF-FSDL hearing

PTI Eleven Indian Super League clubs on Thursday urged the two senior lawyers assisting the Supreme Court in a pending case to bring to its notice the existential crisis they are facing due to uncertainty over the ISL's future and the 'urgency of pronouncing judgment at the earliest'. Bench,' the letter stated. More from Football 'The urgency of pronouncing judgment at the earliest, given football calendar is at a standstill across pyramid; any consequential directions flowing from the judgment be directed to be completed in a time-bound (15–30 days), to restore certainty at the earliest,' the clubs wrote. 'In the event the present proceedings are to go on beyond August 22, 2025, the processes related to conducting the leagues and any ancillary operations may be allowed and expedited so that a long-term constructive solution for all parties may be obtained at the earliest,' the clubs wrote, while mentioning that they are not parties to the case. The eleven ISL clubs which signed the letter are Bengaluru FC, Hyderabad FC, Odisha FC, Chennaiyin FC, Jamshedpur FC, FC Goa, Kerala Blasters FC, Punjab FC, NorthEast United FC, Mumbai City FC and Mohammedan Sporting. The same 11 clubs had earlier warned All India Football Federation (AIFF) that they face the possibility of shutting down entirely due to uncertainty over the ISL's future. The crisis surfaced after FSDL, the ISL organisers as well as AIFF's commercial partner, put the 2025-26 season 'on hold' on July 11 due to uncertainty over the renewal of Master Rights Agreement (MRA), prompting at least three clubs to either pause first-team operations or suspend player and staff salaries. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The current MRA, signed in 2010 between FSDL and AIFF, ends on December 8. The AIFF gets Rs 50 crore annually from FSDL under the MRA. In the letter, the clubs said with no clarity on the ISL, the revenues of the clubs have been severely affected and their survival faced immediate threat, jeopardising the livelihoods of thousands engaged in the football ecosystem – players, staff, vendors, service providers. 'Even one season's disruption would erode the trust of fans, sponsors, investors, and international federations, undoing more than a decade's progress.' The ISL clubs said they have invested hundreds of crores of rupees into youth academies, training facilities, stadium upgrades, and professional squads, creating a robust footballing structure. 'The ISL now sustains the majority of professional football players in India, providing more than 400 full-time player contracts annually, besides developmental pathways for youth and grassroots players. 'It is respectfully submitted that a league of this calibre cannot be assembled at the last minute and requires long-term buy-in to obtain best possible deals. Broadcast agreements, sponsorship deals, player registrations, and logistical arrangements ideally require long-term buy-in and stability, and even thereafter approximately 6–8 weeks of advance certainty to implement every season. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'Therefore, the current delay has already placed us in a situation where any further delays may cause irreparable harm and there is an urgent need for certainty in the greater interest of the entire football ecosystem, including clubs, players, staff, and all other stakeholders.' They said that the loss of even a single ISL season would have catastrophic and irreversible consequences for Indian football as a whole – including the well-being of the players and staff associated with the sport, the professional league structure including the I-League and lower divisions, grassroots academies, and other football competitions – all of which depend on the stability of the top-tier competition. Current deadlock The clubs also submitted that 'this deadlock has indirectly arisen in the present case because there is, as we understand, a verbal stay/injunction on any discussions in relation to the MRA effective April 30, 2025'. 'This has created an anomalous situation where no resolution or forward planning for the 2025–26 season and beyond can take place. As matters stand, there is no certainty beyond 8 December 2025, when the current commercial partner demits its term. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'At that point in the calendar, ordinarily less than a quarter of the season would have been completed, leaving the league and, by extension, the wider pyramid in complete limbo. For the entire footballing system, it is also crucial that a long-term, stable solution is arrived at urgently. 'Clubs have multi-year sponsorships and contractual commitments, and several sponsors have already withdrawn due to the prevailing uncertainty. 'No commercial partner can be expected to invest or commit resources under an interim arrangement or for short term, given sheer scale and complexity of organizing a tournament like ISL and securing long-term broadcast and sponsorship partnerships. Therefore, it is imperative the current proceedings be expedited to provide necessary certainty for the league.'

Kiraak Hyderabad clinch Pro Panja League Season 2 title
Gwalior, Aug 21 (UNI) After 17 days of relentless panja action, Kiraak Hyderabad have claimed the title of Pro Panja League season 2 champions, beating Rohtak Rowdies 30-18 in the grand finale today in Gwalior. The winning team has also won a reward of Rs 20 lakhs on behalf of Pro Panja League. Nirmal Devi of Rohtak Roadies was awarded the 'Player of the day' award. Satnam Singh of Kiraak Hyderabad was announced as the 'Player of the tournament'. Stewe Thomas won the 'Badshaho ka Badshah' title. Kiraak Hyderabad led the whole tournament in terms of points and on the final day lived up to their reputation and sealed a well-deserved and dominant victory. The runners-up from last season, who missed out on the championship by just one point, lifted the trophy this time and etched their name in history. Stewe Thomas of Kiraak broke the Pro Panja League record by pinning Deepankhor Mech in just 0.09 second, breaking the previous record of 0.10 second of Sachin Goyal. Present during the event were the co-founders of Pro Panja League, Parvinn Dabass and Preeti Jhangiani. Also in attendance were Organising Commitee Chairman, Prabal Pratap Singh Tomar, Associate Vice President of Hockey India, Devendra Pratap Singh Tomar, Dr. Narinder Dhruv Batra, Member of International Olympic Committee, professional wrestler Saurav Gurjar and former kabaddi player Rahul Chaudhari. Olympic medallist and Former boxer Vijender Singh was present cheering for Rohtak Rowdies as team ambassador. Rowdies's Billa Tajamul fought hard to keep his side alive, but the experienced Captain Asker Ali claimed the 80kg clash 2-0 to place his team in a comfortable position ahead of the Main Card matches. In the Main Card, world champion Srinivas BV in the Specially-Abled match claimed the opening points for Rohtak Rowdies as he defeated Chandan Kumar Behera of Kiraak Hyderabad 5-0. Nirmal Devi built on the momentum for Rohtak Rowdies as she activated the challenger round and claimed a flawless 10-0 triumph against Jincy Jose in the 65+kg category. 18-year-old Aabhas Rana shifted the tide back towards Kiraak Hyderabad in the 100+kg division, defeating Amit Chaudhary 5-0 in a gripping contest. Madhura KN of Kiraak Hyderabad outclassed Ribasuk Lyngdoh 5-0 in the 65kg bout. Madhura asserted her dominance with two flashpins in the first two rounds. Ribasuk tried to hold her opponent in the third round but couldn't stop her opponent, giving away crucial points to Kiraak Hyderabad. With the trophy on the line, Hyderabad's Stewe Thomas delivered his best performance of the season winning against Deepankhor Mech 10-0 in the 70kg clash. Stewe won the challenger round in style, pinning his opponent in just 0.09 second and claiming the title for Kiraak Hyderabad with one match remaining. Despite losing out on the title, Dara Singh of Rohtak Rowdies didn't lose his spirit and defeated Jagadish Baruah of Kiraak Hyderabad 3-2 in the 100kg category to end the night.
