Strawberry moon rises over Kuwait
KUWAIT: In a much-anticipated annual spectacle for astronomy enthusiasts, Kuwait's skies lit up Wednesday night with the appearance of the so-called "Strawberry Moon" — the full moon of June, which this year reached its lowest point in the sky in decades, marking the end of spring in the Northern Hemisphere and the onset of summer. Despite what the name might suggest, the moon does not actually turn strawberry pink. Instead, it can take on a warm golden or orange hue as it rises, due to its low position on the horizon and the effect of its light passing through denser layers of the atmosphere.
The name 'Strawberry Moon' originates from Indigenous Northern American tribes, particularly in the northeastern United States, where the appearance of the June full moon signaled the start of the wild strawberry harvest season. This celestial phenomenon, visible to the naked eye, has gained widespread popularity in recent years thanks to increased media coverage and growing interest in astrophotography. It is often seen as a perfect opportunity for photographers to capture striking scenes of the moon juxtaposed with natural landscapes or urban landmarks. — KUNA

KUWAIT: A gradual rise in temperatures is expected across Kuwait starting Friday, with highs reaching up to 52°C by Monday, according to Acting Director of the Meteorological Department, Dhirar Al-Ali. Speaking to KUNA on Thursday, Al-Ali said that weather maps and numerical models indicate the country will be affected by an extension of a surface low-pressure system, accompanied by a hot and humid air mass and southeasterly winds. He warned of extremely hot daytime conditions and warm to hot nights, advising the public to avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours and to stay hydrated to prevent dehydration. The meteorological department also forecast Kuwait will remain under the influence of the Indian monsoon low-pressure system through the weekend, bringing hot and humid weather. Fog rolls in as Kuwait braces for 51°C temperature

KUWAIT CITY, June 11: Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health Affairs at the Ministry of Health Dr. Munther Al-Hasawi confirmed that Kuwait implements a comprehensive and precise health surveillance system to prevent infectious diseases, amid international reports of rising HIV infection rates in some countries. Al-Ali told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that fog is expected to reduce horizontal visibility during the evening and may persist into Thursday, with rising humidity and continued chances of light fog in the early morning hours. Looking ahead to the weekend, he explained that humidity will decrease as the air mass shifts and winds turn northwesterly. Temperatures are forecast to gradually rise, reaching between 49 and 51 degrees Celsius.
