This comes after a social media video of an Indian student in handcuffs at Newark Airport in New Jersey went viral. 'The United States continues to welcome legitimate travelers to our country. We cannot and will not tolerate illegal entry, abuse of visas, or the violation of U.S. law. — U.S. Embassy India (@USAndIndia) June 10, 2025 The video, first captured by a witness and an Indian-American entrepreneur, Kunal Jain, showed the authorities treating the student like a criminal. The disturbing footage shows the student pinned to the ground as at least four officials held him down, with two of them keeping their knees on his back. They had tied the student's legs and hands. "I witnessed a young Indian student being deported from Newark Airport last night - handcuffed, crying, treated like a criminal. He came chasing dreams, not causing harm. As an NRI, I felt helpless and heartbroken. This is a human tragedy," Mr Jain wrote in a post on X. He also called upon the Indian Embassy in the US to investigate the matter and provide assistance to the student. Honeymoon murder: Slain businessman's father demands death sentence for all culprits
Indore, The father of honeymooner Raja Raghuvanshi, whose ghastly murder in Meghalaya, allegedly at the behest of his wife Sonam, led to the arrest of four men, on Tuesday demanded the death penalty for all culprits. Days after Raja's body was found in a gorge in Sohra, Meghalaya, Sonam surrendered before the police in Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh late on Sunday night, while four accused, including suspected conspirator Raja Kushwah, were arrested from different areas of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. "My son died in agony. All the culprits should be hanged to set an example, so that no family loses its son to such crime in future," Raghuvanshi's father Ashok Raghuvanshi told PTI. Overwhelmed by the tragedy and sordid details emerging during the investigation, the Raghuvanshi senior expressed disbelief over his newly-wed son returning the family's Indore home in a coffin. "My son's body was mutilated. My family members didn't allow me to have the last glimpse as they were concerned over my heart ailment", he said, struggling to maintain his composure. Raghuvanshi also claimed that Sonam got her husband murdered to remove the 'Mangal Dosh' in her horoscope so that she could later marry her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha, who worked in the furniture sheet business of Sonam's family in Indore. Dismissing this claim, local astrologer Dheeraj Dixit said "mangal dosh" cannot be removed by the death of one's spouse. Initially, the family of Raja Raghuvanshi had accused the Meghalaya Police of negligence in expediting the investigations. However, the tone of this family has changed after new details emerged. Police arrested Akash Rajput from Uttar Pradesh, and Vishal Singh Chauhan , Raj Singh Kushwaha , the alleged conspirator, and Anand Kurmi from Indore and Sagar. Raja's elder brother Vipin Raghuvanshi said he wanted to apologise for giving statements against the Meghalaya government. "We did not know that Meghalaya Police were conducting a secret operation to nab Raja's killers. We had no intention of defaming the Meghalaya government. We are also grateful to the Madhya Pradesh government for supporting us in difficult times," he added. After their wedding on May 11 in Indore, Raja and Sonam travelled to the northeastern state for honeymoon. They disappeared on May 23, hours after checking out of a homestay at Nongriat village, 20 km from where Raja's body was found on June 2. Raja's relatives identified the body through a distinctive tattoo on his right hand. A woman's white shirt, a strip of medicine, a part of the LCD screen of a mobile phone, and a smartwatch were also seized at the spot, police had said. Police also recovered a bloodstained machete , which they believe was used in Raja's murder. A raincoat also believed to belong to the couple, was recovered from Mawkma village, a few kilometres away from the gorge where Raja's body was found. Raja's autopsy report revealed that he was hit twice on the head with a sharp object.

Meghalaya murder: In video, Sonam Raghuvanshi's 'lover' spotted consoling her father at husband Raja's funeral
Raj Singh Kushwaha, one of the persons arrested for alleged involvement in the murder of Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi in Meghalaya, had taken people to the latter's funeral in Indore, an eyewitness has claimed. The case has taken a sensational with the Meghalaya police arresting Raja Raghuvanshi's wife Sonam Raghuvanshi, 24, and her three alleged aides – Akash Rajput (19), Vishal Singh Chauhan (22) and Raj Singh Kushwaha (21) – in connection with the murder. According to the Meghalaya police, Sonam Raghuvanshi had allegedly hired killers to get rid of her husband during their honeymoon in Meghalaya last month, just days after their marriage in Indore. Raj Kushwaha is allegedly the boyfriend of Sonam Raghuvanshi. Raj Kushwaha was purportedly seen consoling her father, Devi Singh Raghuvanshi when the victim's body was brought home. Raja's influencer sister Shrasti Raghuvanshi, who has been sharing updates in the murder case, has posted a video in which Raj Kushwaha can be seen consoling Sonam's father Devi Singh Raghuvanshi at Raja's funeral. While sharing the video on Instagram, Shrasti captioned it, 'Raj Kushwaha was seen with Sonam's father at Raja's house.' A post shared by shrasti Raghuwanshi 💫 (@shrasti_raghuwansh) couldn't independently verify the authenticity of the video. Raja's mother, Uma Raghuvanshi, also noted that some witnesses saw Raj with Sonam's father during the wedding. While refraining from directly accusing her daughter-in-law of the murder, Uma questioned why Sonam abandoned Raja and made no effort to save him. Meanwhile, Shrasti persisted in her quest for justice through Instagram posts. In one emotional video, set against a wedding photo of Raja and Sonam, she said, 'My brother had vowed to be with Sonam for seven lives, but he couldn't even stay for seven days. What had he done to deserve this?. You could have eloped if you liked someone else. Why kill him?" Meanwhile, Sonam's father Devi Singh Raghuvanshi claimed Raj Kushwaha's name was being wrongly linked to his daughter and threatened to send a legal notice to Meghalaya police. When Raja's body arrived, Sonam's family, whose home is in Govind Nagar Kharcha area, had arranged four -five vehicles for people to attend the funeral. Raj Kushwaha was driving the four-wheeler in which I went, though we did not talk. Only after seeing his photograph in the media post his arrest, I recollected this episode," Lakshman Singh Rathore told news agency PTI. Raja, was found dead in a gorge near Weisawdong Falls in East Khasi Hills district on June 2, 10 days after the couple went missing. Raja and Sonam, who got married on May 11 in Indore, went to Meghalaya on their honeymoon. The husband and wife disappeared on May 23, hours after they checked out of a homestay at Nongriat village, 20 km from where his body was found.
