Football club's summer gala attended by nearly 6,000 people
A grassroots football club near Carlisle has enjoyed a 'brilliant' summer gala, which was attended by nearly 6,000 people.
Warwick Wanderers AFC, who are based at Warwick Bridge's Downagate, hosted their popular annual summer gala on Saturday, May 17, and Sunday, May 18.
The club was founded by former chairman Kevin Dobinson in 1997.

Nick Stobbs has been organising the annual gala for 17 years, and after the latest event, was on hand to discuss the success of the weekend and changes that had been made for the first time in over 20 years to make the gala more efficient and inclusive.
He said: "We had a record number of players over the weekend, and we expect that the footfall was about 6,000 across the whole event.

"We automated the gala with an app called Tournify, so everyone could see the live scores and group standings instantly after each round, and that kept everyone engaged.
"We wanted to be more inclusive as well, so this year we made the gala longer.
"Historically, two out of the five teams in the round robin group stage would go through the knockout stages, but this year, first and second went into a 'Champions League' competition, and third and fourth went into a 'Europa League' competition.
(Image: Supplied) "We doubled the number of teams in the knockout stages, meaning we had double the number of winners, and we ended up giving out 1,400 out of the nearly 2,500 players who attended, which was brilliant.
"We had more players up on stage receiving their medals, and that was one of the highlights of the weekend."
Nick was also keen to thank the gala's main sponsors, Lloyd Motor Group, who have already committed to supporting the club's 2026 gala.

Doue lauds ‘really good human being' Enrique after PSG win Champions League
PSG's wonderkid Desire Doue hailed his manager Luis Enrique after scoring twice to help his side win the Champions League. The French champions thrashed Inter Milan 5-0 in Munich to win the club's first ever Champions League title. Advertisement PSG got off to the perfect start when Achraf Hakimi slotted in from close range on just 12 minutes. Doue then grabbed his first and his side's second with a deflected strike which beat Yann Sommer, before adding his second just after the hour mark to make it 3-0. Khvicha Kvaratskheklia and youngster Senny Mayulu then added one each to round off a brutal beating for Inter. Doue has enjoyed a fantastic debut season at the club after signing from Rennes last summer, scoring 15 times in all competitions. And the 19-year-old credited his manager Enrique for helping him to settle so quickly. 'He's been here two years and he's made history for the club,' Doue told TNT Sports. Advertisement 'Tactically, mentally, he's a really good coach and not just as a coach, as a human being too. 'It's a pleasure to work with him. 'It's just incredible for me. I have no words.' PSG have long been contenders in the Champions League knockout stages, and finished as runners up back in 2020 when they were beaten by Bayern Munich in the final. Having seen superstars like Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe come and go without winning the competition, however, PSG midfielder Vitinha says it shows just how good this current team is. 'It means everything,' Vitinha said. 'The fans are the main reason we wanted to win this trophy. Advertisement 'But we wanted to win this trophy for a lot of reasons. It's our dream, it's everyone's dream, it's my dream and I'm glad we made it. It's incredible. 'It says a lot about this group of players, this team. It's a very good team and this result is not by magic. We are a very good team and we are very happy we did it like this and now we're going to celebrate.'

Simone Inzaghi Bids Heartfelt Farewell To Inter Milan Ahead Of Saudi Arabia Move
Simone Inzaghi has bid farewell to the Inter Milan faithful after deciding to leave the club for Saudi Arabia. In an official statement released by the 49-year-old sent a heartfelt message to the Nerazzurri fans. Advertisement Despite Inter's hopes of trying Simone Inzaghi down to a new long-term deal, the parties will go separate ways. Indeed, Al-Hilal's stratospheric contract offer has proved too tempting for the former Lazio coach. He will earn around €50 million for a two-year deal in Riyadh. Therefore, it would make him one of the world's highest-paid managers. Meanwhile, he leaves the San Siro with a few regrets. Though he won the Serie A title last season and five other major domestic trophies, Inzaghi couldn't conquer the Champions League. He helped the 20-time Italian champions qualify for two finals in the last three years, only to lose both. (Photo by) 'Dear Nerazzurri family,' the message starts. 'The time has come for me to say goodbye to this club after a four-year journey, during which I gave everything. 'Every day I dedicated my first and last thought of the day to Inter. I was reciprocated with professionalism and passion by players, managers and every single employee of the club. 'The six trophies won, including the Second Star Scudetto, together with the path in the Uefa Champions League in 2023 and a few days ago. 'I thank the shareholders for the trust that has never been lacking, the President and his collaborators for their daily help and dialogue. 'On a difficult day like today, I think it is right to reiterate this sense of gratitude also for the discussion that ended a short time ago. 'We were sincere and decided together to conclude this magnificent journey. 'I want to dedicate one last word to the millions of Nerazzurri fans who cheered me on, cried and suffered in difficult moments. 'We laughed and celebrated in the six triumphs we experienced together.
