Global Fertility Network expands regional presence with acquisition of HealthPlus Fertility in Jeddah

Zawya7 hours ago

Dubai – United Arab Emirates — Saudi-Emirati Global Fertility Network (GFN), one of the fastest growing fertility and women's health networks in the Middle East, has completed the acquisition of a majority controlling stake of HealthPlus Fertility Center in Jeddah, marking its second major transaction in Saudi Arabia this year. The acquired facility will be rebranded under GFN's Bnoon IVF brand, following the acquisition of Bnoon IVF Center in Riyadh earlier this year.
These two strategic acquisitions represent an investment of more than 100 million Saudi Riyals (USD 27 million) and form the foundation of GFN's plan to create the largest fertility network in Saudi Arabia and the wider GCC. Both centers, Bnoon and HealthPlus Fertility, were previously part of M42's healthcare portfolio between 2022 and 2024.
With these transactions, GFN has doubled its capacity and now delivers over 5,000 IVF cycles annually, making it the largest stand-alone provider of assisted reproductive services in the Kingdom. Moreover, a 3,800-square-meter flagship facility is currently under construction in the northern part of Riyadh and is scheduled to open in December 2025, offering advanced fertility and reproductive genetics services, as part of a holistic women's health offering.
Majd Abu Zant, Founder and CEO of Global Fertility Network, said: 'The expansion in Saudi Arabia is part of GFN's broader strategy to establish a regional platform of fertility and women's health centers. Under the Bnoon name, GFN brings together some of the leading Saudi IVF consultants with decades of clinical experience, supported by state-of-the-art IVF laboratories designed to deliver the highest standards in reproductive care.'
GFN's growth is backed by significant institutional support. The group secured approximately $60 million in equity financing from a consortium of prominent institutional investors and family offices from Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Dubai Investments, a leading investment company listed on the Dubai Financial Market (DFM), acquired a 34.3% equity stake in Global Fertility Network.
'We have identified a strong pipe-line of potential targets for acquisition across the region. New IVF facilities are also planned in Khobar, Abha, and additional cities across the Kingdom. With the support of our investment partners, we will continue to rapidly expand our network while introducing cutting-edge technologies faster, enhancing clinical outcomes, and making fertility care more accessible across the region,' Abu Zant added.
Dr. Abdulaziz Muhammad AlShahrani, a leading Saudi Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility (IVF) Consultant, Founder of Bnoon in Riyadh and the Group Medical Director at Bnoon, says demand for assisted reproductive technologies has been steadily rising in the Kingdom. 'We're seeing a noticeable increase in couples seeking fertility treatment, driven by both primary and secondary infertility,' he said. 'With growing awareness, more individuals are also considering fertility treatments to help balance their families and prevent genetic diseases. Addressing this growing demand requires more than clinical expertise alone. Being part of a larger fertility network like GFN enables us to meet these needs more effectively — giving physicians the freedom to focus on care while benefiting from shared research, innovation, and access to advanced technologies. It's the kind of ecosystem that drives excellence and expands what's possible in reproductive medicine.'
Dr. Fawaz Adeeb Edris, a renowned Saudi Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility (IVF) Consultant and Executive Director at Bnoon in Jeddah (formerly known as HealthPlus Fertility Center), highlighted the rising demand for fertility care across the region. ' Studies show that fertility rates across the GCC have steadily declined, while infertility affects around 15% of couples — or more — fueling a sharp rise in demand for fertility services.'
Dr. Edris cited factors such as delayed parenthood, rising socioeconomic pressures, obesity, PCOS, and men's health problems as key contributors to this trend. He added, 'We are seeing a growing need for accessible, high-quality, and personalized fertility care. By consolidating and expanding leading fertility centers under one unified network, Bnoon aims to broaden access to advanced care and support more couples on their path to parenthood — while integrating the latest medical technologies, AI and data-driven approaches which positions us at the forefront of this rapidly growing healthcare segment. This aligns with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 goals to drive innovation in healthcare and deliver services that meet the evolving needs of our communities.'

Mideast Stocks: Gulf markets rebound amid Israel-Iran conflict

Stock markets in the Gulf ended higher on Monday, recovering some of their losses from previous sessions when they were jolted by the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran. Saudi Arabia's benchmark index advanced 1.3%, led by a 1.5% rise in Al Rajhi Bank and a 6.9% jump in ACWA Power Company. The upward trend mirrored similar movements in both Asian and European markets, where a temporary improvement in sentiment was bolstering investor appetite, said Osama Al Saifi, Managing Director for MENA at Traze. "This optimism was partly fuelled by positive economic data from China, which showed an acceleration in retail sales despite U.S. tariffs," he said. Dubai's main share index added 0.8%, with utility firm Dubai Electricity and Water Authority rising 2.2%. Iranian missiles struck Israel's Tel Aviv and the port city of Haifa before dawn on Monday, destroying homes and fuelling concerns among world leaders at this week's G7 meeting that the confrontation could lead to a broader regional conflict. Israel said it had targeted Iran's nuclear facilities, ballistic missile factories and military commanders on Friday at the start of what it warned would be a prolonged operation to prevent Tehran from building a nuclear weapon. Iran, which says its nuclear programme is for civilian use, has promised a harsh response. Iran said its parliament was preparing a bill to leave the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), adding that Tehran remains opposed to developing weapons of mass destruction. Passing the bill could take several weeks. In Abu Dhabi, the index finished 0.2% higher. Oil prices - a catalyst for the Gulf's financial markets - edged down, paring back Friday's 7% surge, as renewed military strikes by Israel and Iran over the weekend left oil production and export facilities unaffected. The Qatari benchmark climbed 1.7%, a day after falling more than 3%, buoyed by a 2.5% leap in the Gulf's biggest lender Qatar National Bank. Outside the Gulf, Egypt's blue-chip index inched 0.1% higher, helped by a 1.4% rise in Commercial International Bank. On Sunday, the index fell 4.6% marking its biggest intraday fall in about 14 months. SAUDI ARABIA rose 1.3% to 10,867 Abu Dhabi gained 0.8% to 5,407 Dubai up 0.2% to 9,585 QATAR leapt 1.7% to 10,465 EGYPT up 0.1% to 31,042 BAHRAIN added 0.1% to 1,902 OMAN was up 0.7% to 4,143 KUWAIT advanced 1.4% to 8,626 (Reporting by Ateeq Shariff in Bengaluru; Editing by Alex Richardson)

VCM and Enowa target delivery of more than 30 million tonnes of carbon credits

Partnership demonstrates scale of demand for VCM's high integrity voluntary carbon market and Enowa's commitment to compensate for unavoidable emissions Agreement also reflects Enowa's ambitious decarbonization strategy, which includes developing a 100% net renewable-based energy system at NEOM (TBC, Riyadh) – The Voluntary Carbon Market Company (VCM), a carbon credit company established by PIF and Saudi Tadawul Group, and Enowa, the energy and water subsidiary of NEOM, have announced a long-term agreement to facilitate the delivery of approximately 30 million tonnes of carbon credits within this decade. The scale and duration of the agreement marks a significant milestone in VCM's ambition to create a thriving voluntary carbon market in the region. The deal will see high integrity carbon credits delivered to Enowa from climate action projects from around the world, with most projects based in the Global South and transacted on the VCM platform. The first delivery under the arrangement took place on December 19, 2024. Riham ElGizy, Chief Executive Officer of VCM, said: 'The long-term agreement between VCM and Enowa to facilitate the delivery of over 30 million tonnes of carbon credits by 2030 marks a significant moment in Saudi Arabia's journey to drive growth in global voluntary carbon markets. It helps Enowa, a company committed to creating a renewable energy system to power NEOM, compensate for today's emissions while creating sustainable infrastructure for the long term.' She added: 'Equally, the deal aims to give climate action projects in the Global South and beyond funding certainty, so they can plan for the next few years with confidence. To achieve global net zero, climate projects which reduce or remove carbon from our atmosphere need not just finance but certainty too. Enowa's leadership has been representative of what the VCM exchange platform in Saudi Arabia can help unlock at a time when finance is top of the global climate agenda.' Jens Madrian, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Enowa, said: 'Enowa is striving to ensure NEOM's energy needs are met sustainably. Over the past two years, we have purchased high-integrity carbon credits from VCM's auctions. This year, we are delighted to be the first company in Saudi Arabia to agree to a large-scale, long-term agreement with VCM.' VCM launched Saudi Arabia's first voluntary carbon credit exchange platform on November 12, 2024. The platform is designed to meet market requirements for a transparent, scalable and increasingly liquid marketplace, by offering: Institutional grade infrastructure, to enable transparent and secure transactions Price and data discovery for carbon credit projects, key to growing the market globally and providing a price signal on projects from MENA regions Open market connectivity, integrated with leading global registries Scope to develop specialized infrastructure for trade in carbon credits to enable Islamic Finance Auction market, RFQ and block trade functionality, followed by spot market and other functions launching in 2025 The voluntary carbon offset market is expected to grow from USD 2 billion in 2020 to around USD 250 billion by 2050 [1]. To promote growth of the voluntary carbon market in Saudi Arabia and the region, VCM's exchange is being designed to offer buyers and sellers institutional grade infrastructure, enabling fast and secure transactions. Enowa has been a leading participant in VCM's previous auctions, which took place in Saudi Arabia in 2022 and in Kenya in 2023. Through its mandate to realize NEOM, Enowa serves as a blueprint for sustainable urban development worldwide, enhancing the planet's future while promoting economic diversification and improving quality of life. ABOUT VCM VCM was established by Public Investment Fund (PIF) and Saudi Tadawul Group Holding Company (Saudi Tadawul Group) in October 2022. PIF holds an 80% stake and Tadawul Group holds a 20% stake in the company. VCM is aiming to create a credible voluntary carbon market at speed and at scale with global impact. The market prioritizes high quality carbon credits and positive climate action. The company is creating an ecosystem that includes an exchange for the trading of voluntary carbon credits and advisory services that help organizations understand how to decarbonize. In October 2022, VCM hosted its first auction at the sixth Future Investment Initiative (FII) in Riyadh. In June 2023, VCM successfully auctioned 2.2 million tons of voluntary carbon credits in the largest-ever carbon credit sale in Nairobi, Kenya. In October 2023, VCM and PIF hosted the world's first Global South Carbon Market Conference at FII7 in Riyadh. In November 2024, VCM launched the biggest carbon credits exchange in the region on the sidelines of COP29, while auctioning over 2.5 million tons of voluntary carbon credits in its 3rd auction.
