Madras High Court summons Greater Chennai City Commissioner of Police
The Madras High Court has summoned Greater Chennai City Commissioner of Police A. Arun to explain the reasons for the Nolambur police not having acted upon a complaint lodged by a flat owner against two other owners in his apartment complex under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act of 1989.
Justice P. Velmurugan ordered that the Commissioner of Police must appear on June 9, and clarify why no action was taken on the complaint even after the National Commission for the Scheduled Castes (NCSC) had forwarded it to the Commissionerate on December 26 last year, and had called for a report on the action taken within 15 days.
The order was passed on a writ petition filed by engineering degree-holder V. Vanamalai of Nanguneri in Tirunelveli district. The petitioner said he owned a flat at Vinoth Viruksha Apartments at Nolambur in Chennai. He had a dispute regarding the funds of the flat owners' welfare association.
The petitioner, along with another flat owner, had lodged a criminal complaint alleging misappropriation of ₹1.25 crore, and the matter was under investigation by the Central Crime Branch. Irked over it, one of the flat owners had used abusive language against the petitioner after coming to know that he belonged to a Scheduled Caste community, the petitioner claimed.
The petitioner also complained that he was insulted directly and indirectly in the WhatsApp group used by the flat owners, and claimed that it was a caste-based atrocity. He lodged an online complaint with the Inspector of the Nolambur police station on November 4, 2024, and subsequently made a complaint to the NCSC on December 9, 2024.
The NCSC forwarded the complaint to the Commissioner of Police, and called for a report within 15 days. The Commission's communication was marked to the petitioner too. However, till date, the police had not even conducted an inquiry regarding the complaint, the petitioner said.

This will continue for three days and till 3 PM each day," he added. Circle Officer Chanduasi, Anuj Chaudhary, said that namaz was offered inside the Eidgahs in Chandausi and Narauli. "There are two Eidgahs, one in Chandausi and the other in Narauli, where namaz was offered... At both places, namaz was offered within the four walls... No namaz was offered on the roads," Chaudhary told ANI. During the early hours, people were seen offering Namaz in Chandausi, Sambhal. Eid al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. The day is marked by prayers, charitable acts, and the ritual sacrifice of animals, with a message of sharing and empathy at its core.

Tight security for Bakrid celebrations
Rajamahendravaram: In view of Bakrid (Eid-ul-Adha) festival on Saturday, elaborate security arrangements have been made across the district, particularly at major mosques and Eidgahs, said District Superintendent of Police D Narasimh Kishore. Speaking after a coordination meeting with religious leaders on Friday, the SP stressed the need to uphold communal harmony and urged everyone to cooperate in maintaining law and order. Stating that special surveillance through solar-powered cameras and drones will be deployed, he assured that the police are fully prepared to ensure the festival is celebrated in a peaceful atmosphere. 'Muslims should celebrate Bakrid joyfully with their families,' he wished. Any attempt to disturb harmony through provocative speeches or objectionable posts on social media will invite strict legal action, he warned. The SP further clarified that illegal transportation of animals will not be tolerated. 'We are strictly implementing the directives of the High Court regarding cow slaughter. Any violation of these orders will lead to severe consequences,' he stated. He also mentioned that nodal officers have been instructed to promptly respond to complaints and enforce the Andhra Pradesh Prohibition of Cow Slaughter and Animal Preservation Act-1977, Animal Transport Rules-1978, The Animal Transport (Amendment) Rules-2001 and Slaughter House Rules-2001. Citizens are encouraged to report any information related to cow slaughter or illegal transport of cattle by calling 112. The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential, the SP assured.

Bengaluru stampede: Karnataka HC shields state cricket body officials from arrest, denies relief to RCB marketing head
Officials from the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) approached the Karnataka High Court on Friday in connection with the First Information Reports (FIR) filed against them following a stampede near Chinnaswamy Stadium. The incident, which took place following RCB's first IPL trophy, had left 11 people dead. A single-judge bench of Justice S R Krishna Kumar granted interim protection from arrest to senior KSCA officials, contingent on their cooperation with the police investigation. Nikhil Sosale, head of marketing at RCB, did not receive similar relief and his case is scheduled to be heard next week. Sosale was arrested Friday at Kempegowda International Airport, along with Sunil Mathew of DNA, an event management firm involved in the event. On Thursday, the Karnataka High Court had taken suo motu cognizance of the incident after receiving an initial briefing from Advocate General Shashikiran Shetty. The court has directed the state to submit a status report by June 10, the next date of hearing. During Friday's proceedings, Sosale's legal team contested his arrest, arguing that it was politically motivated and carried out on the instructions of the Chief Minister, without a proper inquiry. The court declined to issue interim relief, stating that it would first hear arguments from the state. KSCA, in its petition, maintained that its role was limited to renting out the stadium and facilitating government permissions. Responsibility for ticketing and crowd control, it argued, lay with RCB, the event organizer, and law enforcement authorities. 'The incident was an accident due to sudden rush,' the petition stated, 'and no intention or motive can be attributed particularly to the petitioners (KSCA) because the gate management and crowd management… was of RCB, organiser and police. The KSCA Managing Committee… does not deal with the audience and spectators or fans.' KSCA also contended that police should have conducted a preliminary inquiry before filing the FIR, and questioned the delay in registering the case.
