
Jindal Renewables, OQAE sign deal for large-scale renewable projects in Oman
Muscat – Jindal Renewables, part of the $25bn India-based Jindal Group, and OQ Alternative Energy (OQAE), the sultanate's designated national champion for renewable energy, have signed a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) to collaborate on the development, ownership, and operation of large-scale renewable energy assets in Oman.
The agreement was formally signed by Harssha Shetty, CEO of Jindal Oman, and Najla Zuhair al Jamali, CEO of OQ Alternative Energy, at a ceremony held in Muscat during Oman Sustainability Week.
This strategic partnership marks a significant milestone in supporting the goals of Oman Vision 2040, the national roadmap for economic diversification, sustainability, and green industrialisation.
In a press statement, both companies expressed their deep gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik for his visionary leadership in guiding Oman's transition toward a knowledge-based, low-carbon economy. The partnership reaffirms their commitment to contributing meaningfully to His Majesty's vision of a more sustainable and prosperous Oman.
Under the JDA, both companies will co-develop Integrated Energy Valleys (IEVs) – a flagship configuration pioneered by Jindal Renewables – to deliver 24×7 firm, dispatchable renewable power by combining solar, wind, and advanced energy storage technologies.
As part of its future roadmap, Jindal Renewables plans to develop the first Integrated Energy Valley (IEV) in Oman to deliver renewable power to a 5 MTPA green steel plant proposed by Jindal Steel Duqm, a sister concern of Jindal Renewables. Additionally, a separate IEV is planned to supply 300 MW of continuous clean power to the operational 2.4 MTPA Jindal Steel plant in Sohar, enabling the decarbonisation of Jindal's existing industrial footprint in the dultanate.
Harssha Shetty said, 'This agreement is a powerful endorsement of our shared commitment to decarbonising heavy industries and creating scalable, resilient clean energy ecosystems. Together with OQAE, we aim to make Oman a leading player in the global green energy value chain.'
Najla Zuhair al Jamali said, 'This agreement underscores OQAE's commitment to accelerating investable, utility-scale renewable energy projects that align with Oman's long-term decarbonisation agenda. By enabling clean power for strategic industries, we are not only supporting economic diversification under Vision 2040, but also creating tangible opportunities for sustainable investment and value creation in the region's energy transition.'
Formerly known as Vulcan Green Energy, Jindal Renewables is the clean energy arm of the Jindal Steel. It is focused on developing utility-scale renewable energy projects to power green manufacturing and support industrial decarbonisation, with special emphasis on energy storage and integrated solutions like the IEV.

Pact to advance urban air mobility in Oman
MUSCAT, JUNE 6 AeroVecto, an Oman-based startup specialising in sustainable air mobility solutions, has announced a strategic partnership with Romanian-based LYNEports, a digital planning platform for advanced air mobility infrastructure, to support the rollout of hybrid electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) aviation services in Oman and the wider GCC region. The partnership is set to take advanced air mobility services, currently in its nascency in Oman, to the next level. A number of Omani startups, in partnership with key players in the global international, are gearing up to introduce uncrewed air mobility services for, among other fields, cargo deliveries, passenger transportation, ambulance services, medical deliveries and even disaster relief. AeroVecto is credited with developing Shuttle, a hybrid eVTOL aircraft purposely built for mass public transportation. According to the company, the high-capacity aircraft will enhance current ground-based public transport by enabling convenient point-to-point travel. With a focus on passenger volume and comfort, Shuttle aims to revolutionise urban and intercity mobility, introducing a new era of clean, efficient and scalable air transport. Through the partnership, LYNEports will assist in planning and simulating AeroVecto's Shuttle network, ensuring each site meets aviation-grade safety standards, operational viability and regulatory requirements. Furthermore, by leveraging LYNEports' AI-driven platform, AeroVecto can evaluate ideal locations, model flight routes and visualise integrated transport systems, accelerating the adoption of advanced air mobility across Oman. Elon Musk's Starlink gets license to offer satellite internet services in India
New Delhi: Elon Musk-owned satellite internet company Starlink has been given license by the government to launch GMPCS (Global Mobile Personal Communication by Satellite) services, VSAT Services and ISP Category-A under unified license. Starlink is the third company to receive the nod for GMPCS sevices from the Department of Telecom, after OneWeb and Reliance Jio. Global Mobile Personal Communication by Satellite (GMPCS) license authorizes the use of satellite technology for global mobile communication, providing connectivity seamlessly in the entire area of operation, particularly in remote and underserved areas. According to the Department of Telecommunications, GMPCS enables mobile communication services via satellite for users, especially in those regions where terrestrial networks' connectivity is limited. License holders deploy satellite terminals and ensure secure, continuous service with compliance with global standards. According to DoT, the license mandates adherence to privacy, lawful interception, and satellite transmission standards. Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia told reporters on Thursday that once licenses are given, the spectrum will be allocated to them. Scindia said that internet penetration can only be increased through satellite communication services, especially in remote areas where laying wires and installing towers would be difficult. Recently, Airtel and Jio have also partnered with Starlink to bring the latter's high-speed satellite internet services to their customers in India. Starlink will use Airtel and Jio's strong dealership network to sell and promote its services. In mid-April, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal met a delegation from Starlink.

India: Runway upgrade at Delhi airport to disrupt 100 flights; 57 cancelled, 43 rescheduled
New Delhi: Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar on Friday announced that Delhi Airport will temporarily shut Runway 10/28 for a three-month period to carry out critical upgrades aimed at improving fog-time operations. This will impact around 100 flights in all. Speaking to ANI, CEO of Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, said, "Out of the four runways that the Delhi airport has, there is one runway 10/28 that we are planning to shut down for three months because there are upgrades that are required." As part of the degradation, DIAL will update the current ILS (Instrument Landing System), which is already out of order. DIAL will also make the runway CAT III-B compliant. CAT III-B is an advanced landing system that allows aircraft to land in extremely low visibility conditions. Due to the degradation activity undertaken by the DIAL, 100 flights are going to be affected overall, out of which over 43 flights are going to be rescheduled. "The new schedule has already been published, and 57 departure flights are going to be cancelled. If you put it in the perspective of the percentage, then overall, for Delhi airport, about 7 per cent of the Delhi airport capacity flights will be cancelled," said the DIAL CEO. "We also ensure that the cancellations are not something that is impacting in a big way. So, in most of the sectors where we had multiple connectivity, their 8-9 per cent of the connectivity was reduced so that overall that sector does not get impacted badly," he added. Global credit rating firm Fitch Ratings in April the current year upgraded Delhi International Airport Limited to BB+, kipping the outlook as stable. In its commentary, the rating firm said that the improvement in the financial profile is likely to be materially higher than its previous expectations. DIAL benefits from a stable regulatory regime with revenue and capex determined by the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India (AERA). The company also benefits from its position as India's largest airport by passenger traffic and the gateway to the national capital region with a catchment population of over 30 million, supporting strong long-term growth prospects despite some competition from the proposed opening of Noida International Airport in the financial year 2026.
