Lowry brothers reunited at Limavady 19 years on
'It's fate at this stage to come back and play together'
A 1-1 draw in a league game against Cliftonville in December 2006 was the last time the two were on the same side.Whilst they have since faced each other on numerous occasions at different clubs, Philip says it is nice to be reunited as they enter the latter stages of their career, especially after a number of false dawns. The brothers admitted they were almost together again at Linfield and Coleraine at various stages, but that those transfers did not materialise. "As the years progressed, we didn't think it would pan out like this," Philip told BBC Radio Ulster's Sportsound programme. "It is kind of crazy that we haven't [reunited], we have come close a number of times. Naturally the rumour mill thought I would join Stephen at Coleraine for a year or two and then with the takeover there that stifled those plans, we are 10 years too late in that boat!" he joked. Stephen said his failed transfer to Linfield when his brother was there was "probably the closest" they have been to being on the same side, but the 38-year-old believes their long-awaited reunion is better late than never."It's unfortunate we never got to play together in our prime, that would have been nice too, with circumstances that didn't work out, but it's fate at this stage to come back and play together," he added.
'It's a nice project to go to'
Upon Stephen's return to Limavady last summer for a third stint at the club he was quickly named captain and spearheaded what proved to ultimately be an unsuccessful promotion push to get back in the Irish Premiership. With 35-year-old Philip now set to join him in midfield, the brothers are keen to help their hometown club push to get back into the top flight for the first time since 2008."I'm lucky to still be playing and Philip is a few years younger than me and he's going strong, so we've been fortunate to be injury free and hopefully we can both do that this season and get as much time on the pitch as possible," Stephen added."Limavady are growing again, there's a bit of excitement, they've put themselves in a position to challenge to go up to the Premiership, so I've really enjoyed it."Philip concurred, highlighting the club's ambition under Paul Owens as a key reason he returned."They have a great young manager and have assembled a decent squad, so it's a nice project to go to, it's not like I'm going somewhere with nothing to play for, it's exciting for sure."The extra nice tough is we play close by, so we'll be in close proximity, but we probably need a third body in midfield that is 10-15 years younger to do our running!"

Thomas Partey: Ex-Arsenal player charged with rape to appear in court today
Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is due to appear in court today, charged with raping two women. The 32-year-old, who was charged four days after leaving the north London club when his contract expired back in June, faces five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. He is accused of two counts of rape against one woman and three counts against another. The sexual assault allegation relates to a third woman, the Crown Prosecution Service has said. The alleged offences took place between 2021 and 2022. The Metropolitan Police said it first received reports of an allegation of rape in February 2022. Partey's lawyer Jenny Wiltshire has previously said the Ghanaian "denies all the charges against him" - and looks forward to the chance to "finally clear his name". Partey joined Arsenal from Spanish side Atletico Madrid in 2020 and became a regular for manager Mikel Arteta, who last month said he was "100% sure" the club followed the correct protocols. An Arsenal spokesperson previously said: "The player's contract ended on 30 June. Due to ongoing legal proceedings, the club is unable to comment on the case." Partey made 35 appearances for the Gunners last season, scoring four goals.

QB Teddy Bridgewater, 32 eyes return to NFL
August 5 - Former quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is leaving his position as head football coach at Miami Northwestern High School and seeking a return to the NFL, according to multiple media reports on Monday. Bridgewater's Miami Northwestern exit comes three weeks after he was suspended for allegedly providing impermissible benefits to his players, including Uber rides, meals and recovery services. He also asked for fans to donate to help cover these type of expenses. The 32-year-old confirmed the suspension in a Facebook post last month. "The suspension came from MNW and it's impossible to suspend someone who doesn't work for you," Bridgewater said. "So if im suspended from MNW im free to go to another school of my choice but IM NOT GOING ANYWHERE. "And if it comes down to it, I will volunteer from the bleachers like I used to in 2018 and 2019 when no one had a problem." After joining Miami Northwestern in 2024, Bridgewater led his alma mater to its first state championship since 2019. The program heads into the season as the fourth-ranked team in the state, per to the Massey Ratings. Bridgewater returned to the NFL as Jared Goff's backup with the Detroit Lions in December but did not appear in a regular-season game. Bridgewater completed his only pass for 3 yards in the Lions' divisional round loss to the Washington Commanders. In 10 NFL seasons with the Minnesota Vikings (2014-15, 2017), New Orleans Saints (2018-19), Carolina Panthers (2020), Denver Broncos (2021), Miami Dolphins (2022) and Detroit (2023-24), Bridgewater completed 1,372 of 2,067 passes (66.4 percent) for 15,120 yards with 75 touchdowns and 47 interceptions. He added 844 rushing yards and 11 scores on the ground. Bridgewater was named to the Pro Bowl in his second season after starting all 16 games for the Vikings and leading them to an 11-5 record. He hasn't started a game since 2022 with the Dolphins. --Field Level Media
