Islam forbids killing, Pak-backed terrorists misuse religion: Owaisi in Algeria

India Today01-06-2025
All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi, who is part of the Modi government's anti-terror all-party delegation to foreign countries, tore into Pakistan on Saturday for sponsoring terrorists, saying they were acting against the tenets of Islam by killing innocent people."Pakistan is the epicentre of Takfirism and there is no difference in ideology between the terrorist groups in Pakistan and Daesh and Al-Qaeda. They believe that they have a religious sanction, which is completely wrong. Islam does not allow the killing of any person, and unfortunately, that is their ideology," said Owaisi in Algeria.advertisementOwaisi was referring to the killing of 26 tourists by Pakistan-backed terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam on April 22, where Hindu males were singled out. He said that Islam has no place for 'Takfirism' or the 'Takfiri' ideology -- a concept in which fellow Muslims are declared kafirs, leading to their excommunication and often resulting in violence.
Saying that terrorism has emanated from Pakistan, Owaisi said, "They have patronised them (terrorists), trained them.""Whether in Punjab or Kashmir, you have one common name --that is Pakistan-sponsored terrorism," he added.Owaisi said Pakistan has been openly promoting UN-proscribed terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). The AIMIM MP highlighted that LeT is "ideologically close to Al-Qaeda" and also helped the terror group responsible for the 9/11 attacks in the US.During Operation Sindoor, India successfully targeted the terror launchpads of LeT and Jaish in an overnight attack on May 7.advertisementSlamming Pakistan for harbouring terrorists, Owaisi said, "Anyone who picks up arms is a terrorist. Can't allow any space to be given to any terrorist."Owaisi appealed to the global community to rein in Pakistan, saying it poses a threat not only to India but to the entire South Asian region."It's not only a question of South Asia. We are the 4th largest economy. What will happen? Do you want all this carnage to spread to different parts of South Asia? No. It is in the interest of world peace to control Pakistan, which is the main sponsor of terrorism," he said."There was this one terrorist called Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi – no country in the world would allow a terrorist who's facing a terror charge (come out of jail). But he became a father to a son while sitting in prison. However, the trial progressed immediately when Pakistan was put on the Grey List (of FATF)," said Owaisi. He urged the global community and the global anti-terror financing body to put Pakistan back on the Grey List in a bid to clip its wings.

UP: Fatehpur administration impose restrictions, bans gatherings, protests

Last Updated: Kanpur (UP), Aug 14 (PTI) The Fatehpur district administration has imposed strict prohibitory orders banning all gatherings, processions, and protests in connection with a disputed mausoleum, officials said on Thursday. The move comes as authorities act on intelligence inputs of a planned mobilization on August 16, which coincides with Janmashtami celebrations, they said. The heightened security and preemptive measures follow a recent incident where right-wing groups stormed the premises on Monday, damaging graves and claiming the site to be a Hindu temple. The entire area is now under constant surveillance, with entry restricted to all but security personnel. The vandalized portions of the mausoleum have already been repaired. In the wake of Monday's violence, Superintendent of Police (SP) Anoop Kumar Singh confirmed that 160 people, including 10 named individuals, were booked for damaging public property and disturbing the peace. Additional police forces from neighbouring Kaushambi and Prayagraj districts have been deployed to the area, and a flag march was conducted on Monday to reassure residents. The administration has sealed the area within a one-kilometer radius with multiple police barricades. Heavy police deployment, including Quick Response Teams (QRTs), along with drone and CCTV surveillance, is being used to maintain an airtight security cordon until after Janmashtami, officials said. Officials have appealed to residents to maintain communal harmony and pursue their grievances through legal channels rather than street action. Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak had previously stated that the government has taken the incident seriously and the guilty will not be spared.
