Life can be full of funny little coincidences, and the fact that I'm the new chapero ne to this extremely red 2025 Honda Civic Sport T ouring Hybrid sedan for the next year is the latest one.

When this Civic Hybrid sedan joins my personal fleet, it'll officially turn my family into a two-Civic household. Already, our daily is a 2024 Honda Civic Hatchback Sport Touring, which is not a hybrid, so it has the optional 1.5-liter turbocharged I-4 and six-speed manual. It's a delightful, chuckable little thing whose hatchback hasn't met a Facebook Marketplace find it couldn't fit. Therefore, out of everyone currently employed at MotorTrend, I think I just might be the best-suited person to shake down a new Civic.
Happenstance aside, however, the Civic Hybrid is an important car, a hero for the masses. Building on the 11th-generation's great bones, the hybrid powertrain is both an efficiency and a power play: In testing, we found the 200-hp unit to be quicker than the Civic Si—despite sharing the same horsepower output—all while returning an EPA-rated 50/47/49 mpg city/highway/combined.
Not only that, but the car is a darling to drive, dynamically tuned to be comparable to much higher-dollar Mercedes and Porsches. Out the door? This monospec Civic Sport Touring Hybrid costs $33,100 and comes with a laundry list of standard features, such as heated leather seats, wireless CarPlay, Google built-in, and a Bose audio system. Options? There are none available, aside from a slew of accessory packs we skipped.
Suffice It to Say, I'm Stoked. There's Just One Problem.
I physically couldn't take delivery of the red Civic hybrid because it was delivered to MotorTrend's Los Angeles, California, office instead of New York, which is where I live. As a result, my colleagues were the ones to put the first 2,000 miles or so on the car before I even laid eyes on it. Predictably, the prognosis was good—even if our early returns on real-world mileage (41.1 mpg) fall below the EPA's ratings.
'What a terrific little car,' associate online editor Alex Leanse wrote. 'Honda really nailed the dynamic formula with this. The Civic Hybrid is as docile and undemanding as anyone would want, yet driving enjoyers like myself will still be entertained. There's a direct, connected feel throughout its controls—reassuringly predictable for normal drivers and enthusiasts alike. The steering is weighty, the brake pedal's travel is short, and reactions from the electric motor are immediate. The ride is taut yet never harsh, keeping the body poised in handling situations while maintaining great comfort. Tire grip is limited, but the Civic Hybrid is still a fun car that's willing to be driven hard.'
Furthermore (and to my delight) Leanse reported being able to fit comfortably in it, too. Between him being 6-foot-10 and me being 5-foot-3, I think we've just about covered the entire size range of car-driving humans.
'The ergonomics are dialed,' Leanse went on. 'Where my feet are relative to my hip, and where my hands are relative to my chest are pretty much ideal, Porsche- or BMW-like even. Headroom is only a concern if I sit bolt upright, there's good under-thigh support, and I can sneak my foot past the pedals to stretch my leg. This disproves that small cars aren't good for tall people; the overall ergonomics in the Civic Hybrid are preferable to the Mercedes-Benz G-Class for me.'
Over the next 12 months I get to spend with the car, I'll be looking out for how well those ergonomics and seat comfort hold up, as well as what sort of real-world gas mileage I'll get. My regular commutes will be in and out of perhaps the urbanest environment in the United States (New York City), so I'm eager to see how high (or low) we can get that city mpg figure.
Plus—and I say this with only the most loving of shade thrown at Southern California—we actually experience inclement weather here in the Northeast, just like Michigan, so we'll also get to see how the Civic Hybrid fares there.
My own first order of business, though? Driving the car across the country to get it home. That'll be the next installment in our 2025 Civic Hybrid sedan's yearlong journey. Stay tuned!

Formula 1® racing is about to get even more popular, thanks to the upcoming F1® The Movie starring Brad Pitt and Damson Idris and the Cadillac Formula 1® team's debut in 2026. Only one fashion brand, Tommy Hilfiger, has starring roles in both. The clothing brand's sponsorship for the Apple Original Films' racing flick produced by Jerry Bruckheimer was announced in March. Now, PVH Corp.'s Tommy Hilfiger, the American preppy brand founded in 1985, is announcing its role as the official apparel partner for the new motorsports team. Founder and principal designer Tommy Hilfiger, whose formative years involved a former F1 racetrack, parlayed love for the fast-paced sport and fashion with several racing partnerships: Team Lotus in 1991, then Ferrari and Mercedes-AMG F1TM️, to brand collaborations with driver Sir Lewis Hamilton. The global fashion powerhouse will play a key apparel role in the first new team to join the pinnacle sport since 2016. The tie-up marks the new F1 race team's first official partner announcement. The products include an official team's kit—to dress drivers, pit crews, paddock staff, team car constructors, management—and sport-inspired fanwear collections. The drop is timed to the March 2026 Formula 1 season and available in Tommy Hilfiger stores globally and select partner distribution. Both brands embody Americana with the cars soon to boast 'Made in the USA' in an Indianapolis manufacturing headquarters. "I didn't see that coming in the earlier years. Formula 1 was automobiles and cars coming from Europe. Building out fanwear with our iconic prep with Cadillac's bold racing and motorsport motifs is an exciting playground to push the boundaries," Hilfiger added of the partnership that was nearly two years in the making. Fashion's connection with racing was apparent in the Spring of 2018. Lewis Hamilton became Tommy Hilfiger Men's global brand ambassador and created five Tommy X Lewis collections during their six-year partnership. It coincided with the TommyNow "Drive" show during Milan Fashion Week that involved a race car on a runway. The Tommy x Gigi collection and sporty racing motifs also ran the track. Three of Hamilton's joint-record seven World Drivers Championships occurred during the six-year period. George Russell, another Mercedes team racer to join the Tommy Hilfiger universe, also regularly sported the clothes for appearances on and off the track. "Lewis expressing himself through fashion helped shift the spotlight beyond the track as he became a style icon," Hilfiger said. The collaboration happened before fashion existed in motorsport, and Hamilton's gusto for dressing up inspired other drivers to up the style ante, typically choosing Tommy Hilfiger. Hamilton winning those years is not lost on Lowdon. "There is an advantage to feeling good, whether wearing Tommy or driving a Cadillac. Formula 1 is a big team sport. We want mechanics, engineers, designers, and everyone working at the top of their game, feeling good and focused. The association with Tommy Hilfiger gives them a lot of confidence. People underestimate in sports, what you wear and how you feel are enormously linked to performance." Lowdown added. Using technical fabrics that add breathability, waterproofing, or a type of stretch or reflective can feel like the racing uniforms," Hilfiger noted. "Formula 1 is the Haute Couture of motor racing because cars are handmade. I love the creativity that sets Formula 1 apart. We see that same creative flare and passion for design and ideas with Tommy's talented team as ours. We can do many exciting things in this partnership," Lowdon added. "We're setting a new standard for how fashion and F1 can evolve into a new chapter, and we are incredibly proud leading it. It will be an epic milestone for American motorsport," Hilfiger stressed. Rytz Goldman concurs. "It's not just about race day—it's about tapping into the energy of the sport to create cultural moments extending beyond the track like our APXGP Collection, which fuels the connection between style, motorsport, and cinematic storytelling. To wit, Tommy Hilfiger is also in partnership with F1 ACADEMY™, the series designed to help develop young female drivers and sponsors Spanish talent Nerea Martí. Afterward, we talked a couple of the drivers and pit crew into giving us gear. That inspired shirts with embroideries, patches, and all sorts of detail in early collections taken from those authentic black shirts with gold lettering. They were the only team to do black, which was cool," reminisced Hilfiger, recalling his high school proclivities of working on his car at his gas station job and taking it out for a spin on the Watkins Glen track. Both gentlemen are pumped for the respective task ahead, especially one that involves the super stringent world of Formula 1. "It's relentless, but the challenge is part of the appeal. We're building a team for Cadillac's first entry everyone can be proud of. While drivers are the heroes, it involves 1000 people. We want the fans to join us," Lowdon noted. "Above all, I'm proud to be a part of an American team," said Hilfiger, adding, "As a fashion brand, we like to think into the future. What could be disruptive but inclusive and on brand? So, we're always looking at everything through the lens of pop culture that can extend into different categories. After Ukraine's surprise drone assault on Russia, new attention drawn to sensitive sites stateside

After Ukraine launched a sudden drone assault on Russian installations, it brought new attention to the U.S.' own vulnerabilities, regardless of which side the U.S. stood on Kyiv's attack. In recent years, Chinese Communist Party-linked entities have commercially targeted land around the U.S., including in the vicinity of sensitive installations like the Grand Forks Air Force Base in North Dakota. The Fufeng Group's 300-acre farmland purchase in 2021 first raised the collective antennae of Congress to such under-the-radar transactions – and even Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis swiftly banned them in his state as a result, among other efforts around the country. On Tuesday, North Dakota's senators agreed that the U.S. must remain vigilant for any malign activity, whether it be from relatively novel drone assaults to potential espionage through real estate transactions. "When adversaries can buy our land, attend our universities, photograph silos in our prairies, perform aerial surveillance, park their ships near our military bases, or even just join our PTAs, they have more opportunities to be nefarious," Republican Sen. Kevin Cramer told Fox News Digital. "Our posture must always be vigilant, never assuming foreign actors are benign or have the best intentions," he said. "Whether it's directly spying, indirectly influencing, or sending drones to blow up aircraft, the ability of the enemy increases when we allow them easy access near our national interests." Cramer's Flickertail State counterpart, Sen. John Hoeven, joined an effort to prevent such land-buys and has worked with federal partners to update the process in which foreign investment is analyzed for approval and decided upon. "We need to remain vigilant against China and other adversaries," said Hoeven, who is co-sponsoring South Dakota Sen. Mike Rounds' bill banning individuals and entities controlled by China, Russia, Iran and North Korea from purchasing farmland or commercial land near sensitive federal sites. "At the same time, we're working to update the CFIUS process [which governs federal approval of foreign investments] to ensure proper reviews are taking place as well," Hoeven said. "We also are working to develop the technology we need to protect our domestic military bases from potential drone threats." Rounds' bill also has bipartisan support, including from Sen. Catherine Cortez-Masto, D-Nev., whose state also hosts sensitive government sites like Nellis Air Force Base and Area 51. "It is common sense that we should not allow our foreign adversaries to buy agricultural land next to these locations," Masto said in a statement. Rounds added in a statement that America's "near-peer adversaries… are looking for any possible opportunity to surveil our nation's capabilities and resources." Even private-sector entities have expressed concern, including the South Dakota Soybean Association, which said farmland must be protected from foreign purchase for both agricultural and national security purposes.
