Police chase man onto roof to make arrest in Ipswich, southwest of Brisbane
Several police vehicles have been damaged trying to stop a driver who allegedly fled the scene of a hit-and-run crash, before he was dramatically arrested on a rooftop. Police said the ordeal was sparked when a Honda HR-V drove into the back of a Hyundai i40 on Pine Mountain Rd in the Ipswich suburb of Brassall, 40 minutes southwest of Brisbane, about 8.40am on Wednesday. Instead of stopping to exchange details, authorities said the driver of the 'stolen Honda fled the scene'. Polair tracked the car as it travelled through Ipswich, before police used a tyre deflation device to bring it to a stop. 'The driver and sole occupant, a 20-year-old Brassall man, fled the scene on foot and climbed onto the roof of a property, where he was subsequently arrested,' Queensland Police said. 'It will be alleged the vehicle attempted to evade police a number of times, resulting in several police vehicles being damaged due to impact.' No one was seriously injured and no charges have been laid, with the investigation ongoing.
