Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research (SRIHER) in association with Apollo Health Resources Limited (AHRL) has launched an Advanced Certification in Genomics (ACG) programme.
According to a press release, this initiative is part of a strategic partnership between SRIHER and AHRL and falls under the latter's Global Workforce Development initiative that aims to address global healthcare workforce shortages by preparing healthcare professionals for international healthcare careers.
An agreement to this effect was recently signed between SRIHER and AHRL. The programme focuses on nurturing the next generation of clinical scientists in the field of genomics. The one-year full-time programme commencing in August 2025 will be conducted in person at SRIHER's Chennai campus.
Applicants must hold a postgraduate degree (M. Sc. or M. Tech.) in any of the following disciplines such as Human Genetics, Biomedical Genetics, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Sciences, Stem Cell Sciences, Clinical Research, Medical Laboratory Technology, Genetic Engineering and Medical Microbiology.
It is designed in direct alignment with the curriculum specified by the National Health Service (NHS) in England. It offers comprehensive clinical and experiential training in genomics, with the core focus areas including Genetic Testing, Bioinformatics and Genomic Medicine, Cancer Genomics, Prenatal, Paediatric, and Adult Genomics, Genetic and Genomic Counselling. It includes hands-on training by national and international experts, English language, soft skills and interview preparation for UK-based healthcare roles (such as in NHS).
The agreement was exchanged between Uma Sekar, Vice Chancellor of SRIHER and Sivaramakrishnan Venkateswaran, Chief Executive Officer of Apollo Knowledge. S. Senthil Kumar, Registrar of SRIHER and P. Venkatachalam, Head of Department, Human Genetics, SRIHER were present, the release said.

Dr Reddy's, Alvotech join hands to co-develop, manufacture & commercialise biosimilar of Merck's blockbuster drug Keytruda HYDERABAD: Dr Reddy's Laboratories has entered into a collaboration and license agreement with Iceland-based biotech player Alvotech for the co-development, manufacturing and commercialiation of a biosimilar of Merck Sharp & Dohme's blockbuster drug Keytruda (pembrolizumab). Keytruda, which is used for the treatment of various types of cancer, clocked sales of over US$29.5 billion in 2024. The collaboration will combine Dr Reddy's and Alvotech's capabilities in biosimilars to speed up the development process and extend the global reach of the biosimilar candidate. As per the agreement, the two companies will share the costs and responsibilities for jointly developing and manufacturing the biosimilar candidate and subject to certain exceptions, each company will have the right to commercialise the product globally, Dr Reddy's said on Thursday. 'The agreement demonstrates Alvotech's ability to leverage its dedicated R&D and manufacturing platform for biosimilars, accelerating the expansion of our pipeline by pursuing growing global markets. It further enables us to increase the availability of cost-effective, critical biologic medications to patients worldwide,' said Róbert Wessman, chairman & CEO, Alvotech. Dr Reddy's CEO, Erez Israeli, said the pact demonstrates the company's ability to develop and manufacture high-quality and affordable treatment options for patients worldwide. Kochi: Schools across Ernakulam district launched this academic year with sessions focusing on life skills and student well-being. They have dedicated an hour daily during the first two weeks for sessions on health, hygiene, nutrition and anti-drug awareness. Each day, we dedicate an hour to life skills to support their emotional and social development," said Govt High School, Edappally, headmistress Minimol V V. According to Minimol, apart from the two-week sessions on life skills, the school will conduct Zumba dance sessions throughout the academic year to ensure student wellness. According to Ramamangalam High School social science teacher Anoob John, key topics to be covered in the sessions include road safety, digital discipline, resource conservation and school property care. "Activities such as role-playing, visual aids and poster-making are being used to enhance student engagement," said John. Simultaneously, district is witnessing a technological transformation in classrooms, led by Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE). The agency is introducing artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics in schools, enhancing the state's push toward digital learning. As part of this initiative, KITE distributed Arduino-based robotics kits to 270 high schools in both aided and unaided sectors.
