Man charged with animal cruelty as remains of 37 dogs are found in Essex raid
A 25-year-old man has been charged with multiple offences after police found the remains of 37 dogs at an address in Essex.
Police officers, along with staff from the RSPCA and Basildon council, visited a property in the Crays Hill area of Billericay on Tuesday, where the remains were discovered, Essex Police said.
Around 20 live dogs were also found at the property. They are being cared for while attempts are made to locate their last-known owners, the force said.
Two men were arrested on suspicion of fraud relating to transfer of ownership of dogs and animal cruelty offences.
Ovaeed Rahman, of Hope Road in Billericay, has since been charged with causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal.
He is also charged with three counts of fraud by false representation and an offence contrary to the Animal Welfare Act 2006.
He is due to appear at Southend Magistrates' Court on Thursday.
The second man arrested has been conditionally bailed until July.
More from Sky News:
Inspector Steve Parry, from the Basildon neighbourhood policing team, said: "This has been an extremely intensive investigation - to have secured such significant charges within 36 hours of making an arrest is a real testament to the unwavering commitment of the officers."
"We are also acutely aware there will be a number of people, potentially across the UK, who may have questions on the current situation or information which they want us to know about.
"We have now set up a dedicated public portal through which we would ask for people to make contact."
Essex Police will keep the public informed "when it is appropriate to do so," he added.

Cat owner horrified after pet 'shaved in attack'
A cat owner has been left shocked after her beloved pet returned home with missing fur, which is believed to have been shaved. Jacqui Field, who lives in Gosberton, near Spalding in Lincolnshire, said she found her cat, Bertie, was missing a "big lump of fur from his side" on 7 May. Mrs Field said: "I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Someone must have held him down to do it and it's just a horrible, horrible feeling. It's disgraceful." Lincolnshire Police said it would encourage anyone who is aware of any incidents to report them to the force and to the RSPCA. Mrs Field said the attack on her cat, which is three years old, had left the animal "very, very subdued" and needing to be "persuaded to come for food". She said: "He didn't want to come near anybody, which is very out of character because he normally comes, jumps on my lap and loves a cuddle. "It felt like he was shying away from everyone in case they were going to hurt him." Mrs Field also said that she thought more than one person would have been involved because her pet would have "wiggled and run away if he wasn't held down". Similar attacks were reported on other pets in Pinchbeck, near Spalding, and Kirton, near Boston, in February. It is not known if the incidents are linked. Man chased on tarmac at Heathrow Airport near moving aircraft
A man has been filmed being chased on the tarmac at Heathrow Airport before being apprehended. The individual, who was wearing something wide around his waist, was seen running away from at least four other men within metres of moving and stationary aircraft. The chase appeared to last around a minute before a van arrived with two people in fluorescent tops, and the man stopped running. He was later pulled to the ground. Several seconds later, a police van arrived. The man was then put into the back of the vehicle. A Heathrow spokesperson said: "Working with partners, we have quickly resolved an incident at the airport involving an individual who accessed the airfield taxiway. "The individual has been removed from the airport. The airport continues to operate as normal and passengers are travelling as planned."
