MSRTC will open public fuel stations in Maharashtra to boost revenue: Minister Pratap Sarnaik
The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has announced plans to open petrol and diesel pumps at its depots across the state for public use, aimed at generating extra revenue for the financially strained public transport system. Transport Minister and MSRTC Chairman Pratap Sarnaik stated on Friday that these retail outlets will be set up in partnership with central public sector firms such as Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum. 'The decision to launch these fuel stations was taken because the income from passenger ticket sales alone is not sufficient to sustain our operations. Our goal is to find new sources of revenue to finance MSRTC's stability,' he said. Currently, MSRTC purchases fuel from Indian Oil and Bharat Petroleum and provides diesel only for its buses from 251 pumps located on its property. The Corporation plans to convert such outlets and expand its services to cater to private vehicles as well. Under the proposed scheme, fuel stations will be set up at commercial buildings on MSRTC-owned land of 750 square metres, the minister said. In addition to fuel pumps, retail outlets can be installed to provide room for small businesses, which can also fetch additional income to MSRTC, he added. MSRTC has experience in running pumps and fuel supply, which the officials believe will facilitate this transition. Surveys are currently being conducted on MSRTC-owned plots to identify suitable sites for setting up commercial fuel stations. These stations, once removed from their current utilisation for bus fleets, will be reconfigured to sell fuel to the public as well, Sarnaik mentioned. The state government and MSRTC are actively working on official commercial partnership agreements with the central oil companies, which, according to Minister Sarnik, would enhance transparency as the agreement will involve the Central and State Governments. 'This initiative is not only a revenue-enhancing measure, but also a model of collaboration between state and central agencies, yielding public advantage,' Sarnaik added. The plan also involves transforming these new areas into 'petro-motel hubs,' providing room for fuel sales, simple retail, and facilities for MSRTC's internal operational purposes.

He has now called on engineers from around the country to come and work on the startup. According to the media reports, Deepinder Goyal is now planning to manufacture jet engines. His funded startup, LAT Aviation, is planning to design 100% India-sourced gas turbines for regional aircraft. The company is currently recruiting engineers with experience in turbine and rotor fabrication. LAT Aviation is a nascent aerospace endeavor founded by Deepinder Goyal and Surobhi Das. Sharing a post on X(previously Twitter), Goyal wrote, 'At LAT, we want to get past the finish line. So we're putting together a propulsion research team in Bangalore, focused solely on building gas turbine engines from scratch. Lightweight. Efficient. Flight-ready. Made in India.' 'We're giving engineers the freedom to think, build, break, and repeat. Our dedicated research centre — with labs for combustion, turbomachinery, thermal systems, and materials, will give engineers the space and freedom to iterate fast, and get to real outcomes at a speed which is unprecedented in the industry. Also, this team will be led by engineers. No waiting around for approvals from 'business' people,' reads Goyal's post on X. The post further read, 'No chasing slides or meetings. Previously, he refuted reports that LAT Aerospace, an aviation startup backed by him, has bought a Bombardier Global jet. Reacting to reports that Eternal CEO Deepinder Goyal-backed LAT Aerospace has bought a Bombardier private jet, Goyal said 'LAT is a startup and has not bought any private jet'. 'We are focused on building aircraft for regional aviation and are not in the business of buying planes,' he said in a statement posted on X. LAT Aerospace, co-founded by Goyal, aims to transform regional air travel in India with low-cost, high-frequency mini-aircraft. It is building the future of mass aviation: a network of high-frequency, low-cost, 24-seater, STOL (short take-off and landing), medium-haul aircraft that 'make every city, every town, and every community accessible.' 'Powered by next-generation aircraft, designed ground-up for efficiency, built for affordability, and future-proofed for autonomy, we are aiming to rewrite the rules of flight,' according to the startup. 'Our aircraft will take off and land in compact 'air-stops' no bigger than a parking lot — no baggage belts, no security bottlenecks — eliminating the need for complex, expensive airport infrastructure that regional air travel simply doesn't require,' according to its website. Several food apps, including Zomato and Dine-out, are offering dine-in discounts at restaurants, with some discounts reaching up to 50% . The coolest thing about these offers is that they apply to both popular family restaurants and cozy little cafes. Taking advantage of one of these deals, this correspondent along with six friends, visited a premium family restaurant called The Tandoori Village located in the DLF Mall of India, Noida Film City. We booked a table for seven through the Zomato app. By using the full offer benefits, we enjoyed lunch and managed to save 42% on our total bill ever after covering the optional service charge and convenience fees. We paid Rs 3423. As can be seen from the screenshot below, the Zomato app indicated that if we settled the final bill through their platform, they would offer a flat 35% discount. A new mobile page popped up, showing our final bill as Rs 3,721.1. We applied for a HSBC credit card discount of up to 12%. This brought the bill down by Rs 446.53. So, the total came to Rs 3274.57. However, Zomato applied a convenience fee of Rs 149, which raised our final bill to Rs 3,423.57. In total, we ended up paying Rs 3423.57 for a restaurant bill of Rs 5,994.
