Rajnath Singh briefs counterparts from Tajikistan, Belarus & Kazakhstan on Pahalgam terror attack, Op Sindoor
Qingdao [China], June 27 (ANI): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Tajikistan, Belarus and Kazakhstan on the sidelines of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Defence Ministers' meeting in China's Qingdao and briefed them regarding the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam and Operation Sindoor launched by India to dismantle terrorist networks in Pakistan.
During his meeting with Belarus Defence Minister Lieutenant General Victor Khrenin, Tajikistan Defence Minister Lieutenant General Sobrizoda Emomali Abdurakhim and Kazakhstan Defence Minister Lieutenant General Dauren Kosanov on Thursday, Rajnath Singh highlighted the importance of continued engagement in defence cooperation and exploring new opportunities for collaboration in areas of technical collaboration.
In a press release, Ministry of Defence stated, 'He highlighted the rapid advances made by India in the field of defence production and achieving self-reliance in meeting its defence requirements in several key areas.'
'Shri Rajnath Singh also briefed his counterparts on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor launched by India aimed at dismantling the terrorist networks in Pakistan,' it added.
According to the press release, the leaders agreed to continue cooperation to enhance capacity building, training, military technical cooperation, military education, amongst other areas of common interest.
In a post on X, Rajnath Singh stated, 'Enriching interaction with the Belarusian Defense Minister Lieutenant General Viktor Khrenin in Qingdao.'
Rajnath Singh arrived in China's Qingdao on Thursday to attend SCO Defence Ministers Meeting. Upon his arrival, Rajnath Singh was welcomed by the Chinese Defence Minister, Admiral Dong Jun.
India declined to sign the joint declaration at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation meeting in China on Thursday, which, according to sources, did not have any mention of the dastardly April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam but mentioned incidents in Pakistan.
According to government sources, Rajnath Singh did not sign the SCO document as India is not satisfied with the language of the joint document, as there was no mention of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, there was mention of the incidents that happened in Pakistan, so India refused to sign the joint declaration, and there is no joint communique either. He succeeds Ravi Sinha who completes his rather lackluster tenure on June 30. Even as Parag Jain takes over from Ravi Sinha on Monday, India's external intelligence needs a revamp as it has been found wanting during Maldives and Bangladesh crisis in the past two years. The failure to anticipate the dastardly strike at Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, was noted with concern despite then Pakistan Army chief spewing hatred against Hindus and calling Kashmir the jugular vein of Pakistan. The R&AW's role becomes very important considering the fact that Asim Munir has become a Field Marshal with cross border terrorism against India high on his agenda. Given that India has suspended the Indus Water Treaty, Pakistan will use terrorism to strike back at India and for that India's external Intelligence needs to improve ground intelligence rather than purely rely on technical intelligence.

PM Modi honoured as 'Dharma Chakravarti' on Jain saint Vidyanand's centenary NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday honoured with the title of 'Dharma Chakravarti' on centenary celebrations of Jain spiritual leader Vidyanand at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The title, symbolising a righteous ruler and upholder of dharma, was conferred on PM Modi. Speaking on receiving the award, PM Modi said, "On this occasion, you honoured me with the title of 'Dharma Chakravarti'. I do not consider myself suitable for this. But it is our culture that whatever we receive from saints, we accept it as 'prasad'. So, I humbly accept this 'prasad' and dedicate it to Maa Bharati'." The centenary celebrations mark the beginning of a year-long national tribute to the revered saint and scholar, organised jointly by the Union ministry of culture and the Bhagwan Mahaveer Ahimsa Bharti Trust. Addressing the gathering, PM Modi said, 'Today, we are all witnessing a significant occasion in India's spiritual tradition. Born in 1925 in Shedbal, Belagavi (Karnataka), Vidyanand became one of the most respected Jain monks of modern India. According to news agency PTI, he memorised over 8,000 Jain Agamic verses and authored more than 50 influential works, including Jain Darshan, Anekantvad, and Mokshmarg Darshan. He lived a life of extreme austerity, walked barefoot across the country, and promoted spiritual egalitarianism and inter-sect harmony. His historical contributions include designing the official Jain Flag and Emblem during the 2500th Nirvana Mahotsav of Bhagwan Mahavir in 1975. The five-colour flag and the Ahimsa hand symbol are now universally accepted across Jain traditions. He was also pivotal in identifying Basokund in Bihar as Bhagwan Mahavir's birthplace — a finding recognised by the Indian government in 1956. The centenary year will be observed until April 22, 2026, through nationwide cultural, literary, educational, and spiritual programmes. As per the Culture Ministry, it will include temple outreach, interfaith dialogues, youth engagement, and Jain heritage awareness initiatives. A commemorative stamp and coin were released, alongside a biographical volume detailing saint's life.
