Resort 26 handbag trends: Sack totes, croissant shapes and more

Fashion United11-08-2025
The handbag trends that emerge during the Resort season often forecast what's to come for Spring/Summer. For buyers and fashion editors, this is critical insight. Accessories, particularly handbags, frequently generate more revenue for brands than any other category. With higher profit margins than apparel and broader customer appeal, handbags play a pivotal role in shaping seasonal assortments and driving sales. For Resort 2026, designers generally played it safe, focusing on shapes with nostalgic appeal. Below are the standout styles to watch. The Sack Tote
The sack style was the statement tote of the season. Its relaxed look speaks to the growing consumer demand for casual luxury. It's roomy enough to carry throughout the day. I visited the $170 million ‘American' town in the middle of China – it has French fries and freedom with a cowboy flair

COPY CATTLE A developer revealed a secret that's hidden in the town AN ADVENTUROUS traveler has rediscovered a little-known $170 million Chinese town that's nearly a carbon copy of a US city. The resort town that lies just two hours outside Beijing is filled with kitschy slices of American culture, from cowboy decor to fast food. 3 3 3 In a now-viral video, YouTuber Drew Binksy got a first-hand look at the bizarre gated community that's directly based on Jackson Hole, Wyoming. At first, he was left stunned by the lack of foot traffic as he noticed that many businesses and restaurants were closed, despite open signs hanging prominently in the windows. After he struck up a conversation with locals, he learned that many residents worked in the city during the week, and enjoyed their properties over the weekend. Despite coming in off hours, Binksy still managed to enjoy the America-themed offerings, like a sizzling steak, with corn, pepper steak sauce, and fries. Binksy recorded the wild architecture, which mirrors Western ranch homes. There are even American-style churches and Tesla chargers sprinkled throughout the community. The streets exude wild west themes by showing off faux log cabins, saloon-style bars, and wagon wheels. Binksy interviewed a resident who says houses are reselling for up to one million dollars now that properties are sold out. For many residents, Jackson Hole, China, is less about mimicking the American West in detail and more about capturing escape, the resident said. Binksy's video also mentions that not every person can afford to travel abroad, and this is a way to experience that. CREATION OF THE COWBOY TOWN When the gated community was being developed, planners knew they wanted to base it on an idyllic American town. They considered Martha's Vineyard, a Massachusetts island where elite families like the Obamas have homes, and the ski resort town of Vail, Colorado. However, developers eventually settled on Jackson Hole - a recently booming valley town positioned at the foothills of the majestic Teton Mountains. In the bizarre Chinese town, visitors will be greeted with uncanny cowboy imagery and aesthetics that highlight the small-town American dream. This town also replicates venues like Jackson Hole's Million Dollar Cowboy Bar, a Western stage for 'cowboy stunts,' and even a gold-panning area for kids. But one of the community's most important features can't be seen by visitors. According to builders, they wanted to establish a feeling of faith among every resident who buys property. Liu Xiangyang, the developer of Jackson Hole, China, said that he wanted to give buyers "freedom and spirituality" if they become a part of the community, Cowboy State Daily reported. He said that they hope to achieve this, in part, by building a small chapel that fits the "heartland America" vibe. PROPERTY BREAKDOWN In 2014, about 1,000 to 1,500 homes were built, at initial prices of roughly $180,000 to $330,000, according to The Atlantic. Since then, it has tripled, making it a refuge for affluent buyers who need a respite from bustling Beijing. Today, the suburb boasts up to 3,000 homes and is nearly sold out. Cui Zhongtao, who bought his weekend home for about $145,000, described the place as a sanctuary. 'Reality keeps me from living in America [...] but when I saw the lifestyle there, I wished one day I could live the same way," he told CBS News. Jackson Hole isn't the only replica city in China. The country has uncanny versions of Paris, Venice, and a small English town.

Inside the hidden side of the Algarve - with cheap five-star hotels and miles of unspoiled sandy beaches

You could imagine a poncho-clad Clint Eastwood perched atop the bell tower in The Village with No Name, coolly picking off the baddies with his jaws locked on a cheroot cigar. But instead of blood-spattered villains below, a mixologist is knocking up a tray of drinks for tourists lounging by the infinity pool. I am one of the first guests to walk through the streets of a new 'village' constructed on the side of a hill, its white walls eye-blinkingly bright. But the village is in fact a swish hotel and the properties which line the streets are suites and apartments commanding views of the rolling Barrocal countryside. Part of the Viceroy hotel group, the Ombria is a perfect place from which to discover the hinterland of the Algarve. The rolling hillside is rugged and sunshine beams down on a new golf course which snakes its way through the countryside like a gravity-defying green lake. This is inland Algarve - where Old Portugal still thrives just eight miles from the sand and sangria. Eager to explore the Parque Natural da Ria Formosa, I borrow one of the hotel's electric bikes. 'Don't stray far as the battery doesn't last long', I am warned. I know about electric bikes so ignore this and head for the town of Loule, six miles away. The streets are full of shops selling leather and pottery; the bar terraces are spilling over and the ancient heart of the citadel is abuzz. It is market day and a sort of giant souk sprawls through the warren of medieval alleyways - a riot of colour and smells. I take a circuitous route back through tiny hamlets, along country lanes that plunge and buck like a roller coaster and by seemingly untouched countryside. With some relief I spot in the far distance the Viceroy Ombria. When I get back the battery is still a third full and I've done at least 30 miles. I go for a quick dip in two of the four pools, check out the gym and have a pre-dinner snifter before taking the hotel's minibus to dinner at Al Sud - a swish artwork of glass and marble overlooking the Bay of Lagos. On another day, I visit Silves, the old capital of the Algarve, also inland from the usual seaboard haunts. A fortress was constructed here in the 9th century on the banks of the river Arade, from where ships set sail to trade with North Africa. The town is a fascinating patchwork of ancient and modern among the historic sites. South of Silves, we stop for lunch at Morgado do Quintao, a vineyard with rooms that has been in the same family for three centuries and offers a piece of living history. We sit under a 2,000-year-old olive tree and remind ourselves that if you wish to escape the Algarve's selfie crowds, you don't have to travel far.
