Nikki Glaser Says Timothée Chalamet Almost Skipped Golden Globes Monologue So He Wouldn't 'Have to Deal' With Being Roasted: 'I Get It'
While Nikki Glaser received high praise from critics, celebrities and fellow comedians like Jon Stewart, who tweeted 'Nikki Glaser is very good at this,' for her opening monologue at the 2025 Golden Globes, Glaser recalls some stars were a bit nervous to be put on the spot by her.
Timothée Chalamet, in particular, nominated for his role in A Complete Unknown and who attended with girlfriend Kylie Jenner, seemed wary of being roasted. Because Glaser 'loved his performance' in A Complete Unknown, she knew she wanted to make a joke about him in her monologue.

'That got back to him, and he was just going to skip my monologue and get there late, just so he didn't have to deal with it,' Glaser said Wednesday during a panel discussion at the Time100 Summit. 'I get it, because he's there with his girlfriend who is already the subject of so many jokes. He shouldn't have to sit there if I'm going to make fun of something about him — it's like his night. So, I don't begrudge him doing that.'
Glaser called out Chalamet and joked: 'Timothée Chalamet, you have the most gorgeous eyelashes — on your upper lip. That is such a good look. You were so good and in A Complete Unknown as Bob Dylan. I read that your singing voice was so accurate that even Bob Dylan admitted that it was absolutely horrible.'
Glaser added that after she caught wind of Chalamet's concern she sent a message to his publicist saying, 'I love Timothée! I'm not telling you the jokes, but I promise the jokes are only uplifting him and saying, 'I'm a huge fan.' I would never do anything to ruin his night!'
A source close to the situation says Chalamet never planned to skip Glaser's monologue.
Glaser believes she has a 'reputation of being mean' ever since her jokes at The Roast of Tom Brady. And she said she 'wasn't sorry about anything I said at the Globes because I didn't say anything that was calling anyone ugly or fat.'
However, she said the one joke that she felt was 'kind of mean' was what she said about Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco: 'Selena Gomez is here as double nominee tonight … and she's here tonight with her new fiancé, Benny Blanco. And Benny Blanco is here because of the genie who granted him that wish.'
'That joke didn't actually come from a mean place. I felt like it was OK for me at least to say,' she said before sharing how she texted Blanco about the joke prior and he thought it was 'hilarious' and said Gomez also thought it was 'great.'
Glaser will return as next year's host for the 2026 Golden Globes.

According to a police report, the M*A*S*H star died of suspected natural causes at her home in New York City, her publicist, Harlan Boll, announced. Renée Victor, Voice of Abuelita in ‘Coco,' Dies at 86
Renée Victor, the actress known for voicing Abuelita in Disney and Pixar's Coco and starring as Lupita in Showtime's Weeds, has died. She was 86. Victor died at her home in Sherman Oaks on Friday night surrounded by her family after a battle with lymphoma, her representative told The Hollywood Reporter.
