
Over 300 families receive support at frankincense market
The vibrant atmosphere is filled with the aroma of frankincense and adorned with authentic Omani heritage and arts.
Through this initiative, Dhofar Municipality supports over 300 productive families and small-to-medium enterprises from various wilayats in the governorate. The market showcases a variety of handicrafts, traditional Omani foods, and heritage products that reflect Dhofar's cultural and social identity.
Salim bin Abdullah Fadhil, supervisor of the Frankincense Market, pointed out that this year's edition features notably diverse participation, thanks to direct support from Dhofar Municipality. He emphasised that the market is not merely a sales outlet, but an integrated platform to display and promote local heritage elements.
He added that visitors can explore a wide range of handmade crafts, including palm-frond products, incense burners and Omani frankincense goods, alongside traditional foods prepared by productive families.
The accompanying events include daily performances on the market stage from 4 pm until midnight, where traditional Omani art troupes present heritage-inspired performances, along with children's shows, folk theatre and musical evenings featuring Omani artists. - ONA

SALALAH: The Cultural and Literary Street, established this year by Dhofar Municipality as part of the Ittin Square events in the Wilayat of Salalah, is a highlight of the Khareef Dhofar Season 2025. He added that Dhofar Municipality has prepared a cultural programme with diverse stops to enrich visitors' cultural experiences, expressing his hope that the fair will boost local and international attendance. Awadh bin Salim al Shukaili, owner of 'Bain Al Suttoor' (Between the Lines) publishing house, said his company is participating in the fair for the fourth consecutive year. He highlighted that the publishing house is a key supporter of Omani writers. He added that the idea of establishing the library was to empower Omani writers to have a presence on regional and international stages. Adel Metwally, a representative from Egypt's 'Boursat Al Kotob' (Book Exchange) publishing house, confirmed their continuous participation in the Khareef Dhofar Book Fair since 2015. He explained that this year's participation focuses on displaying Omani books, particularly those on history, as well as supporting young Omani writers and providing children's and scientific books. Designed to spotlight the rich literary and artistic heritage of the governorate, the initiative blends interactive events with a festive atmosphere that appeals to diverse audiences. The Cultural Street features a wide range of activities, including musical performances, poetry readings, live storytelling sessions, visual arts displays, and the popular interactive event known as 'The Postman'.
