Over 2K children enjoy nutritious food served by India's first integrated kitchen in Kadapa
The kitchen, established by the Kadapa district administration, resembles a five-star facility with a state-of-the-art kitchen, a warehouse to store groceries, cutlery to serve meals and also a mini solar power generation unit. The leftover food and vegetable peels are used to generate methane gas through biodegradation.
It was set up with ₹10 lakh provided by Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan under the Dokka Seethamma mid-day meal scheme and district development fund. The activities of the integrated kitchen set up under the 'hub-and-spoke model' are constantly monitored through a mobile app.
District Collector Sridhar Cherukuri said: 'The kitchen is part of an initiative to improve attendance in schools and enhance the pass percentage by letting the children focus on their studies without any worry about their lunch.'
It may be mentioned here that Mr. Pawan Kalyan, who visited Kadapa Municipal Corporation High School in 2024 to attend the first parent teacher meeting, had noticed the difficulties faced by the staff in cooking food using firewood chulahs (traditional stoves).
While having lunch with the children, Mr. Pawan Kalyan had promised to launch a modern kitchen using his personal funds. The Collector immediately took the lead in establishing a modern kitchen with all the required facilities.
The menu includes white rice and vegetable curry on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, Pulagam and tamarind rice on Tuesdays and vegetable rice on Thursdays. Eggs are served on all days and these apart, ragi porridge, jaggery Pongal, chikki, greens are also served on select days.
A class seventh student Kavya Sri expressed that she thoroughly enjoys the various options available on the menu. Similarly, Shaik Mohammad Mahir Basha, a class eighth student, said that he was thrilled to meet his favourite actor Pawan Kalyan last year and thanked him for providing a delightful meal to the students.
Ruth Arogya Mary, English teacher at a Municipal Corporation School, said that there has been a drastic fall in the number of students bringing food carriers from their homes, and credits the improved quality of food served at the school for this change.

Muhurtha held for new multilingual horror film ‘Pingaksha'
Bengaluru: The Muhurtham of new horror film titled 'Pingaksha', inspired by another name of god Anjaneya, was held at Sri Balamuri Varasiddhi Vinayaka Temple in Nandini Layout. The title joins the line of names like Bajrangi and Hanuman, but with a unique twist 'Pingaksha' is derived from Sanskrit and, according to the makers, perfectly suits the film's theme. The film is being produced by B. Vasudevarao under the banner of Sagittarian Films, while B. Bharatvasudev, a techie-turned-filmmaker, is writing the story, handling cinematography, and designing the action cuts. The makers have even chosen a catchy English tagline, 'The Dead,' to reflect the film's chilling core. Speaking to reporters after the launch, director Bharatvasudev explained the film's distinct approach to the horror genre. 'We have seen many horror films, but Pingaksha will stand out because the scary elements run from beginning to end, keeping the audience in awe. The story revolves around how the master of a house protects his family from evil forces, how divine power comes to his aid, and what unique way is found to defeat the devil,' he said. The director added that the film will not only focus on horror but also weave in family bonds, love, marriage, and entertainment, with four songs and three major action sequences. Shooting has been planned across picturesque locations including Bengaluru, Mangaluru, Chikkamagaluru, Madikeri, Kalapi, Munnar, and Cochin. The film stars Santosh Kumar as an ACP in the lead role, with Risha Gowda as the heroine. Kerala-born Iyra Menon plays the second lead, while Bhargav appears in a special role. The supporting cast includes seasoned actors like Avinash, Rangayana Raghu, Ku. Aarohi Udanur, Kittithalikote, Telugu Nagamahesh, Balarajavadi, Sarath Lohitashva, Vardhan, and Asha.

A Poignant tale of identity and justice
Anandajit Goswami is one of the topmost Indian authors writing in English and Bengali. He has been hailed by world-class academic and literary organisations for rendering his commendable services to the realms of literature and academics. His book 'Pink Gender: The Extended' is a deeply engaging novella that sheds light on the subtle intricacies of human experience, reflecting on the most sensitive themes of gender identity, societal pressures, and the quest for acceptance. The story masterfully intertwines the lives of three individuals—Ravi, Indu, and Shapno—as they navigate a complex web of emotions, pain, and prejudice, which makes it deeply emotive and profoundly poignant in nature. The author has earned great acclaim for his gripping narratives, which always remarkably spellbind the readers. In quite a similar fashion, this book too contains an intensely packed narrative that has been deftly structured like a play. The story unfolds in a police station, which serves as a backdrop for the subtle layers of the narration to unravel. The fact cannot be refuted that Goswami is an ultrasensitive writer. Like Geoffrey Chaucer, he too has a strong conviction that the community of real writers should not merely stay confined to their ivory towers, wallowing in personal grief. A true writer, as Goswami believes, has a greater social responsibility. Fulfilling this very responsibility, the author in this book chooses to dwell upon intensely sensitive issues such as feminism, the rights of the LGBTQ community, and the misuse of power—while weaving in the influence of the movie Pink to reinforce the themes of gender justice. All these issues indeed clamour for immediate attention. When it comes to the art of characterisation, there is a complete volte-face. Here, the author seems more influenced by Henry James, who in his book The Art of Fiction disagrees with Walter Besant's assertions that plot is more important than characterisation, that fiction must have a 'conscious moral purpose,' and that experience and observation outweigh imagination as creative tools. James argues against such restrictive rules for writing fiction, responding that 'no good work of fiction will ever proceed from a superficial mind.' With his fecund imagination and wild flow of thought, Goswami scintillatingly delineates a coterie of lifelike characters pulsating with complex emotions. The characters are well-developed, with their struggles reflecting real-world issues of gender-based discrimination and societal acceptance. Shapno's story, in particular, stands out for its vivid portrayal of the transgender experience. This riveting narrative has all the elements—an engaging plot, well-delineated flesh-and-blood characters, fluidity of thought, and lucidity of expression—that go into the creation of a quality book. G. B. Shaw, a great dramatist of the modern era, echoes the sentiment that it is every author's bounden duty to highlight the sordid and seamy side of life and raise his voice against the foils and foibles prevalent in society. Much to our elation, the author of this book does not even flinch in raising his staccato voice about the social issues that annihilate the fabric of society. The novelist vehemently and vociferously casts his aspersions on rampant gender discrimination and the maltreatment meted out to the LGBTQ community. Exhibiting remarkable lucidity of language, 'Pink Gender: The Extended' is a commendable effort to address pressing social issues through an innovative lens. It is a worthwhile read for those interested in social justice and gender studies, offering a fresh perspective on gender dynamics prevalent in our society. Indeed, the author deserves a salute for bringing out this masterpiece. (Prof Dr Shiv Sethi is an acclaimed literary critic and columnist.)
