Donald Trump claims Beyonce, Oprah broke law in Harris endorsement deal

Beyonce. Oprah Winfrey. Kamala Harris. US President Donald Trump has taken aim at the trio of influential women, saying they 'should be prosecuted' during a stunning late-night rant. Mr Trump took to Truth Social to unleash in a major way, posting the rant at 7.45pm Scotland time, where he is currently on a weekend golfing trip. Mr Trump alleged that Beyonce never sang despite being paid USD$11 (AUD$16) million to endorse Mrs Harris before her speech at a campaign rally in Houston, Texas. Mr Trump also highlighted amounts allegedly paid to talk show host Oprah and TV personality Reverend Al Sharpton. He also said the large amount of money spent by his Democratic opponents during the 2024 election will be reviewed, and that payment was 'probably illegally' made. 'I'm looking at the large amount of money owed by the Democrats, after the Presidential Election, and the fact that they admit to paying, probably illegally, Eleven Million Dollars to singer Beyoncé for an ENDORSEMENT (she never sang, not one note, and left the stage to a booing and angry audience!), Three Million Dollars for 'expenses', to Oprah, Six Hundred Thousand Dollars to very low rated TV 'anchor', Al Sharpton (a total lightweight!), and others to be named for doing, absolutely nothing!', Mr Trump posted on Truth Social. 'These ridiculous fees were incorrectly stated in the books and records. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO PAY FOR AN ENDORSEMENT. IT IS TOTALLY ILLEGAL TO DO SO. 'Can you imagine what would happen if politicians started paying for people to endorse them. All hell would break out! Kamala, and all of those that received Endorsement money, BROKE THE LAW.' He continued: 'They should all be prosecuted! Thank you for your attention to this matter.' However, there's no evidence that those named in Mr Trump's post received payment for their endorsement by the Democratic campaign. Oprah previously said she 'was not paid a dime' for the appearance, however 'the people who worked on that production needed to be paid. And were. End of story'. The Harris campaign has also denied making any endorsement payment for Beyonce. Mr Trump has made similar allegations previously. In December, he wrote that 'Beyoncé didn't sing, Oprah didn't do much of anything (she called it 'expenses') and Al is just a third-rate conman'. He's also no stranger to using legal threats. Beyonce and Oprah aren't the only celebrities Mr Trump has criticised. Earlier this week, he addressed CBS' shocking decision to cancel The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, seemingly suggesting that other late night hosts should get a similar treatment. Of particular focus was his longtime critic, Jimmy Kimmel. 'I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings,' Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social. 'I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert!' Mr Kimmel and Mr Trump have reportedly been feuding for years. When Mr Trump won the presidency in 2024, Mr Kimmel called it a 'terrible night' for democracy and announced he was on Trump's 'list of enemies'.

Trump administration faces mounting pressure to release AUKUS probe details as a senior Democrat demands answers

The Trump administration is facing mounting pressure to release more information about the review into the AUKUS submarine deal. US Democratic congressman Joe Courtney has taken aim at the US Department of Defence for a 'dearth of communication' and a lack of transparency. Mr Courtney, who is also the co-chair of the Congressional Friends of Australia Caucus, said there was a 'systemic issue' with the Pentagon with supplying information requested by Congress. The Trump administration's review of AUKUS — originally due to conclude by June — has been delayed, with uncertainty hanging over the timeline. Speaking to The Australian, Mr Courtney said US Navy leadership had briefed the Pentagon on the ongoing AUKUS review, but was unable to ascertain the questions and answers involved. The Pentagon's review of the $350 billion AUKUS arrangement, led by US Undersecretary of Defence for Policy Elbridge Colby, has not stopped Australian investments into the security partnership, which has so far amounted to $1.6 billion. Mr Courney, who is the Democrats' ranking member of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Seapower and Projection Forces, said it was 'really problematic' for work to continue without further guidance being provided to AUKUS members. The senior Democrat said it was hard to know how seriously President Donald Trump would take the review once it was completed and that it was not Mr Colby's responsibility to disclose his findings. 'The buck stops at the White House,' he said. 'We were told initially it was a 30-day review which obviously had people really sceptical that something that has been worked on for four years and had so much effort with the optimal pathway could get a fair analysis in 30 days. 'It does seem like the Department (of Defence) pumped the brakes in terms of the framework.' Mr Courtney said while there was still work going on, it could be assumed AUKUS was 'here to stay'. He said the Trump administration's approach was 'very frustrating' and a 'head scratcher'. Last week, the Democrats' ranking member of the House armed services committee Adam Smith warned the Department of Defence and Congress was going to 'have to work together' and claimed the Department had shunned Congress 'more than any other DoD or administration' he had seen. 'I have not personally had a one-on-one conversation with the Secretary of Defence. I've sought out meetings with the Under Secretary for Policy. I've basically been told to p**s off … Which is unbelievable to me,' he said. Earlier this month, shadow defence minister Angus Taylor said the Albanese government must now give clear assurances to the US that Australia will be a reliable security partner. 'We should be working closely with them to make sure that we have peace through deterrence and strength in our region,' Mr Taylor said. 'We should have a joint commitment with them to the security of Taiwan and peace in the Taiwan Strait. 'These are incredibly important things to be focusing on right now — and it's why AUKUS is so important.'

Donald Trump targets Beyoncé, Kamala Harris, Oprah, escalates distraction campaign amid Epstein files pressure

US President Donald Trump has launched fresh accusations against top Democratic figures Beyoncé, Oprah Winfrey, Al Sharpton, and Vice President Kamala Trump is claiming they illegally received millions of dollars for political endorsements—an allegation made in a new Truth Social post that appears aimed at shifting focus from ongoing controversies linked to himself. In his post, Mr Trump alleges that Democrats paid 'Eleven Million Dollars to singer Beyoncé for an ENDORSEMENT (she never sang, not one note, and left the stage to a booing and angry audience!),' he said.'Three Million Dollars for 'expenses' to Oprah, Six Hundred Thousand Dollars to very low rated TV 'anchor,' Al Sharpton (a total lightweight!), and others to be named for doing, absolutely NOTHING!' He goes on to claim, 'YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO PAY FOR AN ENDORSEMENT. IT IS TOTALLY ILLEGAL TO DO SO. Kamala, and all of those that received Endorsement money, BROKE THE LAW. They should all be prosecuted!' The claims, unsupported by any public evidence and not corroborated by campaign filings or independent fact-checkers, come at a time when Mr Trump faces intensifying scrutiny over his own dealings, especially renewed attention to his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein and demands from both supporters and critics for full disclosure of the 'Epstein files.' Jeffrey Epstein was a wealthy financier charged with operating a sex trafficking ring that exploited dozens of underage girls for sexual abuse, including recruiting victims from multiple countries, before he died in jail awaiting trial in 2019. The release of the Epstein files has been highly anticipated, with many hoping the documents will reveal new information about powerful individuals connected to Epstein's trafficking network and shed light on unresolved questions about his death. Mr Trump's latest social media outburst follows a pattern of rapid-fire postings unrelated to the mounting questions about Epstein's death and Mr Trump's own actions. This includes recent Truth Social posts ranging from attacking US agency officials and Washington football team branding, to sharing AI-generated videos of Barack Obama's fictional arrest and promoting unrelated government document dumps. Republican strategists and political analysts note that such diversions are typical of Mr Trump's tried-and-tested playbook: generating new controversies or provoking media outrage in an effort to overwhelm coverage of more damaging topics. 'As controversy over Epstein refuses to die down, Mr Trump and his inner circle have repeatedly tried to pivot public attention to new outrages,' said Republican strategist Alex Conant in a recent interview. 'Nobody turns the page better than Donald Trump. His entire first term was constantly changing narratives… this is different because he's in a real fight with his base.'
