Ireland scores 106 against Portugal in record-breaking rugby match

LISBON, Portugal (AP) โ€” Paul O'Connell's sympathy for Portugal only went so far.
After watching the Ireland rugby team he's nursing thrash Portugal by a record 106-7 on Saturday, the stand-in coach admitted he felt sorry for the home side.
The 16-try victory surpassed the 83-3, 13-try win over the United States in 2000 and set Ireland records for most points, most tries and biggest margin.
Ireland did it without 17 of its British and Irish Lions.
'I feel sorry for Portugal but we were very clinical and took our chances,' O'Connell told Virgin Sports.
'It is a unique summer tour given the Lions tour is on at the same time, but I am very happy with how our squad applied themselves. It is great to get some guys capped and scoring tries and training in an international environment.'
There were 11 different try-scorers, doubles for debutants Hugh Gavin and Shayne Bolton and one for debutant Alex Kendellen.
Flyhalf Jack Crowley nailed 12 of 15 conversion attempts. There was one penalty try.
Ireland next faces New Zealand in Chicago on Nov. 1.

Video: Modric greeted by huge crowd of AC Milan fans

Hundreds of Milan fans crowded in the street to see new signing Luka Modric, who threw his shirt down to the supporters. The midfielder held his presentation press conference this afternoon and you can read his comments here. After that, he was taken to the club's flagship store in Via Dante to meet the fans, and they turned up in their droves. They packed out the street below the window and sang the Croatian's name as they waited for him to pop his head out of the window. He held up his Number 14 jersey and threw out a few of them to the waiting crowd before stepping down to meet some of them in person, sign autographs and pose for selfies. Report โ€“ Atalanta Talisman No-Shows Training Amid Inter Milan Transfer Soap Opera

Forward Ademola Lookman has not attended Atalanta training today as his transfer soap opera with Inter Milan heats up. This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews. Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman has spent the past few days trying to force his club's hand on a transfer to Inter Milan. The Nigerian international had responded to Atalanta's rejection of Inter's second offer by scrubbing all traces of his current employers from his social media accounts. Then, yesterday Lookman took things several steps further. The 27-year-old made a public transfer request. Lookman did so in a statement in which he accused Atalanta of 'poor treatment' as well as 'breaking a promise.' However, that is hardly likely to change the player's stance. Lookman wants Inter. And he is continuing to dig in his heels. Earlier today, Lookman was absent from Atalanta's team lunch. And in today's training session, Sky Sport Italia report, the former Leicester City and Fulham forward was once again not present.

Trans darts champion laments ban against trans women as 'loss for the trans community'

Dutch transgender darts champion Noa-Lynn van Leuven has denounced the World Darts Federation's recent decision to ban trans women from the women's category. The 28-year-old acknowledged the international governing body's new gender eligibility policy in a statement posted to Instagram on Friday, noting that "this decision does affect me personally โ€” though, thankfully, not too severely at this point in time. But still, it hurts." "Once again, it's a loss for the trans community in sports. And that breaks my heart," van Leuven wrote. "As a trans person in the darts world, I know how vital inclusion is โ€” not just on paper, but in practice. It's disheartening to see yet another policy framed around 'fairness' that ultimately results in exclusion, without truly considering the people behind the labels." Noa-Lynn van Leuven on Instagram: "This past Monday, the WDF (World Darts Federation) released a new policy regarding gender eligibility. I want to take a moment to respond. This decision does affect me personally โ€” though, thankfully, not too severely at this point in time. But still, it hurts. Once again, it's a loss for the trans community in sports. And that breaks my heart. As a trans person in the darts world, I know how vital inclusion is โ€” not just on paper, but in practice. It's disheartening to see yet another policy framed around 'fairness' that ultimately results in exclusion, without truly considering the people behind the labels. My heart goes out to all the athletes impacted by this. We remain visible. We keep going. ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€โšง๏ธโค๏ธ #transrightsarehumanrights #darts #inclusivesport #wdf #transinclusion #sportforall" The WDF officially released the new policy last Monday, creating a "female" category designated "for those participants recorded female at birth, and within definition of female under this policy, which includes females who wish to transition to men, but not undergoing hormone treatment." Trans women and trans men who are on hormone replacement therapy are instead allowed to compete in a separate but equal open category. The organization claimed to implement the rule for "equal opportunity." Darts, like pool, fishing, dancing, and chess, is an activity where gender offers no competitive advantage, yet all have still implemented bans against trans competitors. A comprehensive review of several studies on trans participation in sports under their gender identity also found that trans athletes, post transition, are "more similar to their gender identity." It noted that both transgender and cisgender athletes show great variations in ability. Van Leuven, who has won several titles in both the women's and open category, has been prohibited from competing in WDF events since September, when the federation's members first voted to implement the ban. She spoke out against the rule at the time, saying that she and other trans athletes were being "cancelled." Van Leuven has been competing in Professional Darts Corporation events. "My heart goes out to all the athletes impacted by this," she continued. "We remain visible. We keep going."
