ST ANDREWS is recognised across the globe for being the home of golf, with its incredible history and its role in the development of the modern game.
However, many would be surprised to hear that the Scottish town isn't actually ranked among the best locations across the UK to play the game.

New research has revealed the top ten places to go golfing across Britain and found that a surprising city took the number one spot in Scotland.
Experts at CasinoDoc compiled the list by analysing the most populated UK areas against multiple metrics.
The team considered several factors, including the number of golf courses in the area and the average golf course ratings for said courses.
They also looked at the cost of the average green fee as well as wind speed at each location.
While most of the ten ten spots were awarded to different destinations in England, one Scottish and one Northern Irish location were mentioned.
Salford, in England, ranked in the top spot overall after impressing with 65 courses, an average fee of £30.60 and an average rating of 4.29.

Belfast followed close behind and was deemed the second-best place for golfing.
While it has fewer courses than Salford at 33, it offers the most affordable green fees at an average of £28.29, making it the best budget-friendly option despite the higher winds.
A Scottish city entered the ranks in the ninth position - and it was Aberdeen that was singled out for being the best in the country.
The Granite City has 19 courses, which were awarded an overall average score of 4.27 - only 0.02 points behind London.

However, it dropped a few places because of its expensive average green fee of around £59.68.
It was also considered one of the windiest golfing locations, with a score of 9.46.
While there was no other Scottish destination that made the top ten, there was one more entry in the top 25.
Edinburgh came in at number 20 with 48 courses across the capital city and an average score of 4.43.

However, it also had an average green fee, which came in at £45.63.
And while it wasn't as windy as Aberdeen, it still scored high with an average wind speed of 8.95.
A spokesperson from CasinoDoc said: "Golf is a beloved sport in the UK, not just for the physical aspect, but the social aspect too.
"When looking at the factors, wind is a crucial factor for a good game of golf, often separating good golfers from great ones.
"This research highlights the variety of golf destinations across the UK.
"From more high-end locations where fees are slightly higher, but so are ratings, to budget-friendly options that cater to any and every golfer."
